Blade & Sorcery Nomad Review: The Full Release Is Finally Here and It Feels Incredible

As a seasoned VR gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Blade & Sorcery: Nomad’s The End Update has taken this game to a whole new level. It’s like Cyberpunk 2077’s ‘2.0’ update, but without the bugs and delays – it’s more like a smooth upgrade from alpha to AAA!

In a fresh and conversational rewording: Yesterday, Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, which previously didn’t seem as comprehensive or top-notch compared to its PCVR version, received a significant update from developer WarpFrog. Dubbed ‘The End Update’, this release fully revamps Nomad, making it feel like an entirely new game and bringing it up to par with the original PCVR experience.

Although it has its flaws, this update significantly enhances the game’s visuals, smoothness, overall functionality, and audio aspects. Moreover, it incorporates a primary advancement system that offers a goal for your gaming experience.

It’s like Cyberpunk 2077’s ‘2.0’ update. It has made Nomad feel like an entirely new game.

Overhauled

Let’s get the downsides out of the way before we talk about Blade & Sorcery: Nomad’s full release.

Installing The End Update means saying goodbye to all your mods because they won’t work with the new version. It’s best to click ‘Uninstall All’ on your mod list before you continue, as having them active might interfere with your update process. This can be a significant change for users like me who had many mods installed previously.

One concern I’ve got regards the fighting mechanics – it appears that beheading enemies is unnaturally simple, and even a light tap with a sword causes their heads to detach. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but it’s rather annoying.

That’s about it when it comes to issues.

The biggest talking point about The End Update is the addition of Crystal Hunt, which is Blade & Sorcery’s core progression mode. With this mode, you’ll get to pick a path and follow it with a new character, exploring an all-new world, never-before-seen (for Nomad) races and factions, and a gameplay loop that gives the game more of a point.

Here’s what WarpFrog had to say about the introduction of Crystal Hunt:

Adding Crystal Hunt to our project was a mad dash for us since it was like launching an entirely new game on top of Blade & Sorcery, a game we were already familiar with. Trying to adapt that for the standalone headset was like adding fuel to insanity. Yet, here we find ourselves in the thick of it.

You’ll find a variety of skills to master, a trading system, challenging new foes, plus a wealth of stories and puzzles waiting to be discovered. The visual enhancements are truly breathtaking, and after investing countless hours in Blade & Sorcery: Nomad prior to the update, the differences are as clear as day and night.

From the improved background noises to the enhanced magical spells, as well as the finer details on weapons and the modified behavior of enemies during combat, everything has seen an upgrade.

As a gamer, I had to spend a decent chunk of time figuring out the fresh tweaks, like the revamped inventory and journal systems, but it was definitely worth hanging in there. Let me tell you, The End Update is nothing short of amazing! Here are a few more perks that caught my eye:

  • There’s a new stash system and the ‘home’ is persistent when it comes to adding and moving things around
  • Modders can now take full control of the SDK
  • Enemy mages are now wild and have immense powers
  • Enemy AI is much more realistic, particularly in combat
  • The existing Arena maps have been overhauled
  • The new armour sets and weapons feel and look superb
  • For the first time, there’s a voiced and animated NPC shopkeeper

As a gamer, I’ve noticed a significant change in my gaming budget lately. Previously, Blade & Sorcery: Nomad was a wallet-friendly purchase at only $19.99. However, due to the massive update, the price has been bumped up to a cool $29.99. It’s all part of the game’s transformation, and I think it’s worth the investment!

Verdict: Buy

The latest update to one of VR’s top games significantly enhances its quality, making it even more impressive. I hadn’t anticipated this update, so receiving it was a truly delightful surprise. If you were patiently waiting for the complete launch of Blade and Sorcery: Nomad, your patience will be rewarded. This new version seems like WarpFrog has gifted us an entirely fresh game, and every moment spent exploring it is worthwhile.
