As a seasoned Hades enthusiast who has danced my way through countless encounters and battles, I must say that the introduction of Melinoe and the Fig Leaf in Hades 2 has been nothing short of a revelation! The addition of magic casts, animal familiars, and the retention of familiar elements like Keepsakes have made this sequel an even more enchanting journey.
In the sequel to Melinoe’s journey, titled “Hades 2“, you’ll encounter a unique twist with enchantments and sorcery, along with the aid of mystical animal companions. Yet, it maintains a sense of familiarity for dedicated fans of the series, as many gameplay aspects from the original “Hades” have been preserved, such as the Keepsakes feature.
Mementos serve as useful charms that players can acquire by offering Nectar to characters. Before setting off on her journey, Melinoe can outfit these mementos, enhancing her abilities and potentially upgrading specific Boons. In the latest update akin to the Olympics, Hades 2 introduced some fresh mementos, one of which transforms locations into deserted towns.
Hades 2 Gives More Chances For Zero-Enemy Encounters
Games similar to Hades are renowned for their challenging nature, but they compensate by offering fresh enhancements and gear to aid players’ endeavors, along with additional narratives. In the realm of the Hades series, it further rewards players with a multitude of in-game advantages, such as plentiful Death Defiances and sanctuaries where Zagreus and Melinoe can restore their health.
In addition, these safe areas are also referred to as “fountain zones.” These secure spots pop up randomly in different locations and can often be accessed with updates. Both games featuring Hades include these zones, but Hades 2 offers more opportunities to find zero enemies thanks to Dionysus’ Keepsake, the Fig Leaf. When utilized, Melinoe has a 50% chance of entering encounters without adversaries, up to four times per run, depending on the level of the Keepsake.
- Fig Leaf: Most Encounters have a 50% chance to be blissfully free of any foes, 1/2/3/4 time(s) this night.
- How to get the Fig Leaf: Enter Dionysus’ domain in Olympus and gift him Nectar to receive the Keepsake. Equip the Keepsake by selecting it in the display case located at the training grounds or in the rest area before entering a new location.
In some unexpected meetings, you might find that the Fig Leaf springs into action. Instead of the usual enemy growling, Melinoe will hear lively jazz tunes, and a glittering disco ball will float above the screen, reflecting Dionysus’ relaxed demeanor. With the Fig Leaf activated, Melinoe is allowed to gather treasures and forage items freely in the vicinity. If the Keepsake has been upgraded, there’s a possibility it could continue activating during successive Encounters.
Dionysus, the divine deity associated with wine and ecstasy, is well-known for bestowing boons with a theme of intoxication on both Zagreus and now Melinoe. In the game Hades 2, he assumes a secondary role as an Olympian god stationed in Olympus, offering supporting boons much like Artemis, Hermes, and Athena do.
The Advantages of Using the Fig Leaf
In contrast to the initial game, Hades 2 features twice as many adversaries since Melinoe is tasked with safeguarding not only Tartarus but also Olympus against Chronos’ troops. The Testament of Night significantly intensifies battles on both fronts, making it crucial to enhance Melinoe’s weaponry and select appropriate Boons and Keepsakes to aid her in combat. This is why the Fig Leaf, coupled with the unpredictable fountain areas that are randomly generated, is significant because it shields Melinoe from fighting numerous enemies in an Encounter, especially when her health and Death Defiances are low. It can also prove useful for time limit challenges, as it protects Melinoe from inconvenient battles.
In the recently released Hades 2 update, players can engage in combat against either Chronos in Tartarus or Prometheus in Olympus – both challenging adversaries. While some may find them easier to defeat as they progress through the game, it’s always wise to keep an eye on your HP and Death Defiances before embarking on the final battle. Additionally, be prepared for potential encounters with a powerful enemy after Chronos and Prometheus, or additional postgame challenges that Melinoe might encounter.
