Nintendo Denies Claims Of Layoffs At Subsidiary

As a seasoned gaming enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness every time I hear about layoffs in the industry. It’s like losing a piece of our gaming family. Just when we thought 2024 couldn’t get any tougher, Nintendo denies the layoff rumors at Mario Club Co., Ltd. But let’s be real, if you can’t find bugs in Mario Kart, who can you trust?

Contradicting earlier reports, Nintendo has clarified that there have been no job cuts at Mario Club Co. Ltd., contrary to the suggestion made by Leakpress this week regarding potential layoffs of around 150 staff members.

In a statement given to Eurogamer on the matter, Nintendo says that isn’t the case.

Mario Club Co., Ltd. has verified that the information reported as speculation about them is false,” the company stated.

Mario Club Co., Ltd., based in Japan, operates as a subsidiary specializing in debugging. This company has built a reputation for its meticulous quality control work, particularly for Nintendo, while also testing and troubleshooting their first-party video game software.

By the year 2024, approximately 14,000 positions have been eliminated through layoffs within the gaming industry. More recently, Sony made an announcement about closing down Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi, which could result in as many as 210 people losing their employment.
