As a seasoned fan of Horizon Zero Dawn, I must say that my heart skipped a beat when Erend asked for my help to find his missing sister Ersa. The journey through the Borderlands was filled with anticipation and excitement, much like the first time I embarked on this post-apocalyptic adventure.
Initially, Erend assumed his sister Ersa had perished. However, thanks to Aloy and her Focus during their last major mission in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, he learns there’s a possibility she’s still alive. Moreover, it seems there might be hope for him to save her from the hostile group that attacked her. As you progress into ‘Into the Borderlands’, your objective will be locating Ersa. Let me give you an idea of what this part of the story has in store.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, proceed with caution.
Meet with Erend
Erend will be anticipating your arrival at the Palace of the Sunlight. Upon approaching, you’ll encounter Marad who will guide you to an audience with the Sun King. Stick with Marad and later engage in conversation with the Sun King. After that interaction, your next mission takes you to meet Marad’s associate in Pitchcliff, a place located well up north of Meridian.
As you approach your destination, a cinematic sequence will unfold. Keep an eye on the highlighted paths ahead, they’ll guide you all the way until you come across a body.
Go to Dervahl’s Camp
To get to Dervahl’s Camp, go north from Pitchcliff. North of the camp lies a Stormbird location. Although you may not be there yet, be mindful of the sky as attacks can still occur. After reaching the camp, Erend will appear.
At the camp, multiple machines are secured with chains. By firing at these chains, you can set them free. These machines will assault Dervahl’s followers even without intervention, and they pose a threat to you as well, so be cautious.
In this region, despite the presence of machinery, it remains challenging due to an abundance of hostile entities. Some of these adversaries are equipped with multi-shot bows, posing a significant threat. The bottom of the camp is merely the initial hurdle; dealing with the rest follows suit.
Ascend the stairway towards the upper section of the camp. Nestled against the northernmost stone wall, you’ll find a compact structure with a blood-red flag adorned with a skull. Approach cautiously, bracing for conflict. Following a brief cinematic sequence, Dervahl’s Champion will appear, brandishing a formidable, heavy weapon. To dodge the impact of these powerful blows, seek shelter and fight from afar.
Find Ersa
After the victor has fallen, make sure to gather his possessions before moving forward.
After that, I’ll take a look around the room. On the left, there seems to be a gaming-related component, while on the right, there’s a gadget for recording something. Once I’ve inspected both items, I’ll have a chat with Erend to wrap up this main quest and kick off The Sun Shall Fall mission.
