As a seasoned ghost hunter who’s spent countless nights chasing phantoms in abandoned buildings and haunted houses, I can confidently say that Phasmophobia is the closest you’ll get to the real deal without actually dying and becoming a ghost yourself!
If you’ve ever dreamt about delving into the realm of the paranormal, Phasmophobia offers you that opportunity. As you don the mantle of a ghost hunter, Phasmophobia immerses you in haunted locales where it’s not just about capturing ghosts – they can capture you too. Luckily, you have an array of ghost-hunting tools at your disposal to help you accomplish mission goals and gather evidence of the supernatural. One tool that might perplex you is the Spirit Box, a device you can use to attempt communication with spirits in Phasmophobia.
Navigating the game’s initial instructions might help you grasp the fundamentals, but mastering the use of the Spirit Box could be a learning curve, particularly for beginners or those playing on consoles for the first time in Phasmophobia. The Spirit Box can serve as evidence for certain ghost types, making it an essential tool to familiarize yourself with and upgrade swiftly. This guide primarily focuses on using the Tier 1 Spirit Box, which some players might find challenging.
How To Use The Spirit Box In Phasmophobia
When venturing into a supposedly haunted structure in Phasmophobia, locating the ghost room should be your initial priority. Although other starting gear may aid you more in this task, like the EMF Reader, you might require the Spirit Box to amass proof of a spectral presence by trying to elicit a reaction from the ghost. In Phasmophobia, before employing the Spirit Box, you’ll first need to retrieve it from the vehicle (or switch to it in your inventory if you already have it equipped, starting with the fundamental Tier 1 Spirit Box).
When you’ve chosen the Spirit Box, press the “Interact” button to activate its power. This action turns on a red light on the left side and makes the Spirit Box produce continuous white noise while cycling through frequencies. Based on your configuration, you can either type or verbally communicate questions to the ghost via the Spirit Box, as explained subsequently.
Spirit Box Text Commands
Should you be employing a text input method for the Spirit Box, go ahead and activate its power using the ‘Use’ button. From there, pick one of the provided dialogue options displayed on the screen as an attempt to converse with the ghost.
- Are you friendly?
- Where are you?
- How old are you?
The ghost might answer or it might not, depending on certain requirements outlined later in this manual. For example, even with a torch in hand and lit, you should turn off all the room lights for maximum chances of success. Use the torch while being near any signs of paranormal occurrences or the ghost itself, such as cold breath, within the same room as the ghost. When using the Tier 1 Spirit Box, it’s essential to be very close to the ghost (within a meter and a half). Additionally, you can attempt using the Spirit Box after employing other detection devices first, as demonstrated in the video below that shows a ghost failing to respond to the Tier 1 Spirit Box following a couple of EMF readings.
Certain ghosts may only interact with players in specific situations, like when they’re working solo, so it’s a good idea to verify these circumstances on the mission briefing before carrying the Spirit Box around. But keep in mind that some spirits converse with all players regardless of their company.
Spirit Box Voice Chat
In addition, you can engage in voice communication using either a headset or push-to-talk functionality, in an attempt to elicit a response from the spirit via the Spirit Box within the game. You are provided with the opportunity to pose questions in four distinct categories.
- Age – questions like: how young are you?
- Difficulty – questions like: what do you want and are you angry?
- Location – questions such as: where are you and are you in this room?
- Personal – questions like: what is your name?
One of your initial tools for attempting communication with spirits is the Spirit Box. Yet, as you delve deeper into exploration, you may stumble upon other items, which I would term Haunted Artifacts, similar to the Ouija Board in the game Phasmophobia.
Spirit Box Responses
While it may appear that there’s no activity at times, remember to watch the color of the Indicator light on the Spirit Box carefully. This light could provide various signals.
- If the Indicator on a Tier 1 Spirit Box flashes white, it means you’ve picked up a response from the ghost, and you should hear voice-like sounds through the radio frequencies. Of course, the sounds will vary according to what ghost is haunting the area.
- If the indicator on a Tier 1 Spirit Box flashes red, the game (and thus, the ghost) hears you but does not respond.
- If nothing happens, it may be that the Spirit Box did not register your question. If you’re using a headset, make sure the left indicator bulb is white, as this indicates the Spirit Box is picking up your voice.
You can enhance the Spirit Box within Phasmophobia for better performance, including extended range, improved sound clarity, and faster response speed.
