100 Thieves Sells LCS Franchise Spot

100 Thieves Sells LCS Franchise Spot

As a seasoned gamer and follower of the esports scene for over a decade, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as 100 Thieves transitions from a franchise to a Guest Partner in the LCS. This organization has been a staple in my League of Legends viewing schedule, with their consistent performances and entertaining personalities.

100 Thieves took a noteworthy step in their business strategy, selling their League Championship Series (LCS) franchise position and shifting towards the role of a Guest Partner instead. This well-known esports organization made the announcement today.

What does all of this mean, though?

100 Thieves Transitions to Guest Partner in LCS After Selling Franchise Spot

100 Thieves has been a mainstay in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) for quite some time, known as one of the largest organizations with a franchise spot. Yet, as the company moves forward with its investment strategies, it appears that maintaining a franchised position within the LCS might not be part of their plans any longer.

However, 100 Thieves will still be involved with the league.

100 Thieves announced on Twitter that Riot Games is purchasing back the slot, giving them a rare chance to act as a Provisional Guest Partner for the 2025 season, according to their statement.

So, what does this mean?

100 Thieves to Become a Guest Partner in LCS

100 Thieves’ esports program got its start in League of Legends esports, which might surprise some people. However, their departure from the franchise doesn’t necessarily indicate they’re finished competing in the game.

10 Thieves’ team has qualified for four out of the seven championships held in the LCS so far, establishing themselves as one of the top-tier teams within the league. Now that they have departed from being a full franchise, 100 Thieves officially becomes a Partner by Invitation.

In simpler terms, their spot in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) remains secure, but they won’t be putting in as much financial support into the league compared to what they used to do.

Yet, these developments raise several concerns about the team’s financial health. Despite being a prominent name in the esports world, 100 Thieves’ decision to sell their franchise spot hints at potential financial difficulties within the organization.

Is there any information available on whether 100 Thieves League of Legends team will still be active in 2026, given they are currently a Guest Partner for 2025?
