As a seasoned Monster Hunter veteran, I can’t help but share my insights on this intriguing beta preview. From the moment I laid eyes on the sprawling map, reminiscent of the vast wildernesses I’ve traversed in past adventures, I knew I was in for a treat.
Thanks to their connected PlayStation Plus accounts, enthusiasts of the PS5 were given the advantage of participating in the Monster Hunter Rise beta ahead of others. This early access privilege was a significant benefit as it provided them with more time to familiarize themselves with the game. Now, however, the game is accessible to everyone, or at least those using the supported beta platforms.
In essence, the demo version of “Monster Hunter Wilds” is limited when it comes to story progression. There are merely two quests available, after which no further narrative elements unfold. Regrettably, players won’t be able to craft gear or have their Palicoes prepare meals during this phase. However, despite these restrictions, there’s plenty of content to keep you busy in the beta, and newcomers might find themselves a bit bewildered. To help navigate through this, here are some fundamental tips on where to start and what to focus on initially.
6 Practice With The Weapons
Use The Beta’s Full Potential
Initially, the game starts with dramatic cutscenes leading to a thrilling chase across the sandy landscapes for a few initial minutes. Later, players come upon a temporary campsite where Alma, an ally, provides them with fourteen weapon options to select. For devoted Monster Hunter enthusiasts, there won’t be any new weapons, but they wouldn’t want it any differently.
At this training camp, participants have the opportunity to try each of the thirteen available weapons on a nearby target. While battling a barrel isn’t a realistic preparation for monster combat, it allows players to explore and test all the weapons during the beta phase. Once they reach the main camp later, they will be able to put these weapons to the test against actual monsters. Additionally, players receive starter equipment for every weapon in the game without any extra charge. To facilitate play for individual players, it’s suggested to use a bow for its long-range effect.
5 Fiddle With Your Tent And Items
Make Healing Shortcuts
Upon completing the initial quest, Chatacabra, players returning to the main camp should venture into their personal tent. Although Monster Hunter games typically offer a more extensive dwelling such as a hut for exploration, it remains unclear if this space will be expanded in the final version. However, during the beta phase, players are encouraged to explore some features within their tent. Although crafting weapons or armor isn’t possible at this stage, players can indeed swap out their weapons as previously established.
Additionally, you’ll find various protective gear that can be inspected, each providing distinct attributes. For instance, when tackling Rey Dau, a flying beast with electric-infused power, players should prioritize gear with high electric resistance. Furthermore, it’s beneficial for players to organize their inventory and configure their toolbar for convenience in the field. This includes having a swift healing option readily available, which is crucial in any action RPG before embarking on an adventure.
4 Learn How To Cook
Boost Stats With Delicious Recipes
In these games, cooking is another exciting feature that’s often a highlight. The recipes in Monster Hunter are always appetizing, particularly when the Palicoes whip up a meal. Don’t worry, even if you can’t watch the Palicoes cook, players still have the ability to prepare some basic dishes within their tents on their own.
In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, it will temporarily boost your stats. Players understand the importance of cooking a meal before embarking on a major hunt because it can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. It’s also worth mentioning that players should venture out and collect raw meat from the various monsters scattered across the map to gather ingredients.
3 Explore The Map
Familiarity Will Make The Chase Easier
Regarding the map, although the beta version doesn’t have numerous storylines or secondary missions, the initial zone is expansive. It’s worth investigating to familiarize yourself with the lay of the land. Discovering secret passages can help in locating a monster more efficiently if it escapes.
As a gamer, I’ve found an awesome tip: press R1 on my PS5 controller, and my mystical steeds, Seikrets, will instinctively head towards a designated spot. It reminds me of those open-world games where horses follow paths. So, if you’re playing this beta, don’t forget to explore the region extensively! Gathering ingredients for potions and dishes is just one fantastic reason to do so, ensuring you get the most out of your adventure.
2 Hunt Down The Beta’s Four Main Monsters
It’ll Be A Struggle Alone
Fans are eagerly wondering which monsters will be featured in the upcoming Monster Hunter game, especially as favorites such as Rathalos or Paolumu are anticipated. Although the official list hasn’t been revealed yet, the beta version introduces new creatures for players to battle against. Initially, they will encounter Chatacabra, a toad-like creature, and Doshaguma, which appears to be a hybrid of a bear and a dog.
In the beta version, there are just two primary missions, but players also have the option to fight against two additional creatures: the burrowing beast called Balahara and the lightning-charged flying menace, Rey Dau. Although you can’t create weapons at this stage, your progress is planned to continue into the full version. Therefore, it might be beneficial to locate all four monsters at least once for potential future items.
1 Check Out Multiplayer
Answer The Call
In a Monster Hunter game, you primarily team up with three companions to jointly pursue and slay monsters during cooperative play. However, prior to engaging in these collaborative sessions during the beta, it’s advisable for each player to complete the five individual tasks on their own. This preliminary training will prepare players for the main game, and it offers a chance for players to build a bond with their Palicoes.
Once all the proposed tasks have been finished, players can utilize the rest of the beta period to explore multiplayer options. Respond to SOS Flare signals or consult the assignment board to target particular monsters. The monsters Rey Dau and Balahara are the strongest in the beta, so it could be beneficial to repeatedly battle these creatures with a group for practice and to gather materials.
