As an old-timer who’s seen more sunsets in the Nora Lands than I can count, let me tell you about my journey to uncover these elusive Power Cells in Horizon Zero Dawn. The Grave Hoard was a tricky one, but once I reset those pesky electronic locks and found the cell tucked away in a corner like a shy machine-hating hermit, I knew I was one step closer to that Shield Weaver Armor.
In the game Horizon Zero Dawn, the top-tier armor is hidden within a mission named The Armory. To unlock it, you’ll need to gather five Power Cells throughout your journey. You can either uncover the Bunker where the armor resides or start with locating your first Power Cell. This questline persists until nearly the end of the game, and the spots where each Power Cell can be found are sometimes tricky to spot.
Most of the Power Cells are tied to main quests you can only unlock as you progress in the story. Thankfully, though, you can return to all the locations after you’ve completed these quests if you missed one by accident. And once you have them all, you can get the Shield Weaver armor.
Horizon Zero Dawn – Power Cell #1: Underground Bunker
In the Underground Bunker Aloy initially explored as a child during the prologue, the first Power Cell is hidden. Earlier, it might have been difficult for you to access certain rooms due to the ice crystals. However, now that Aloy has grown and acquired her spear, you can revisit the bunker and retrieve the first Power Cell.
Once you complete the prologue of the game and control Aloy for the first time during The Embrace, before she moves to the Proving, enter the bunker and rewind your actions until you encounter a closed door. Force open the door and advance until you ascend the stairs that lead to the bunker’s offices. At the summit of these stairs, there will be an iced room on your right – shatter the ice with your spear, and inside you’ll discover the Power Cell.
Horizon Zero Dawn – Power Cell #2: All-Mother
After Aloy awakens at All-Mother Mountain, during the sequence following the Proving and the In the Womb of the Mountain quest, you’ll resume control of her. Leave the room she’s in and gather her gear. Following this, a chat with Teersa will ensue, encouraging you to venture further into the mountain. However, prior to heeding her advice, search for a door marked with a red ‘locked’ symbol within the same room.
To your left, there’s a narrow passageway that allows for crawling, which leads to the opposite side of the room. It is here where you can locate the Power Cell. If you overlooked it during the Womb of the Mountain mission, don’t fret; you can pick it up when you revisit the area during The Heart of the Nora later in the narrative.
Horizon Zero Dawn – Power Cell #3: Maker’s End
In the northwest region of the game map lies a massive, crumbling structure known as Makers’ End. This site is pivotal in the narrative of Horizon Zero Dawn, serving as a key location where you unravel the mysteries surrounding the Old World. Initially, you’ll have to battle through adversaries and a decaying Deathbringer to reach it. Later on, your journey requires you to ascend to the highest point of this dilapidated structure.
As I approach Ted Faro’s office toward the final stages of our quest, before descending to spot a sizable conference table, veer right and ascend the modest tower. Atop this structure, you’ll find the Power Cell – but do take care to avoid any accidental slips!
Horizon Zero Dawn – Power Cell #4: The Grave Hoard
Following the completion of Maker’s End, The Grave Hoard serves as your next significant mission and it’s where you’ll discover the upcoming Power Cell. Luckily, this one isn’t hard to locate. After a bit of exploration, you’ll come across some electronic locks that will require manual resetting in order for you to progress further in the quest.
After establishing the necessary systems and once the door is unlocked, you’ll locate the Power Cell to your left within the narrow passageway. It’s somewhat concealed in a nook, snuggling up against a supply container, prior to engaging Shadow Carja within the structure.
Horizon Zero Dawn – Power Cell #5: GAIA Prime
In the penultimate main quest of Horizon Zero Dawn, titled The Mountain That Fell, the final Power Cell is hidden. Navigating to GAIA Prime is a challenging task due to numerous machines blocking your path. Upon reaching the summit, brace yourself for an intense battle against a Stormbird. However, if you manage to overcome these obstacles, you’ll ascend the ruin’s side and enter a small room that Sylens has set up as his personal sanctuary.
Enter the building where Sylens is already there, continue your discussion with him and afterwards proceed through the doors. Prior to venturing towards the mission symbol leading into the ruins, however, take the path that leads to the end of this expansive room instead. At the terminus, you’ll discover the final Power Cell.
Horizon Zero Dawn – How to Get the Shield Weaver Armor
After gathering all your Power Cells, make your way to the secret Bunker located in Nora Lands. This hidden structure is nestled at the base of a hill near your initial encounter with Nil, opposite the Nora Hunting Grounds. Look for the same symbol on your map that marks other ruins throughout the game, and that should lead you straight to it.
Leap off the hill’s peak into a large pit to access the bunker; keep swimming forward until you find the chamber where armor is stored. For now, you can’t go to the left side of the room because you need your initial supply of Power Cells to activate the door on the right first.
After placing the discs, you will have to decipher a riddle to arrange them correctly and open the door. The sequence from left to top, and moving right, should be as follows: Up, Right, Down, Left, Up.
As a gamer, I’ve found the secret stash where the Shield Weaver Armor is hidden away. However, to get it out, I’ll need to place the Power Cells on the opposite side of the room first, unlocking it from its mechanism. Solving the puzzle, it’s a matter of moving the discs in this sequence: Right, Left, Up, Right, Left.
After completing that task, the device securing the Shield Weave armor will disengage, allowing you to pick it up. This additional layer of protection boosts your health, which automatically regenerates when depleted, making you one of the toughest characters in Horizon Zero Dawn and significantly increasing your chances of victory.
