How Dragon Quest Builders 2 Differs from Pokemon Pokopia
While Dragon Quest Builders 2 shares some similarities with Pokemon Pokopia, there are key differences players should know about. The biggest one is that Dragon Quest Builders 2 combines building with a lot of combat. You’ll frequently need to defend your settlement from monster attacks, which means teaming up with allies and fighting in real-time. The combat isn’t overly complicated, but you’ll need to battle monsters throughout the game to become strong enough to defeat the bosses.
Unlike Pokemon Pokopia, Dragon Quest Builders 2 doesn’t have a system for collecting and cataloging monsters like a Pokedex. However, you can tame some monsters in Builders 2, and doing so unlocks helpful abilities. For example, riding a Slime lets you jump higher, and you can tell a Hammerhood to break rocks automatically. These abilities are similar to how Ditto transforms or how different Pokemon use their skills, but there are only 13 monsters you can tame in Builders 2, far fewer than the 300+ in Pokopia.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a Perfect Stand-alone Experience for Switch 1 Owners
As a big fan, I can tell you that you absolutely don’t need to have played the first Dragon Quest Builders to enjoy this sequel! In fact, starting with Dragon Quest Builders 2 might be the best way to get into the series. They’ve added so many great improvements, like quick travel, a first-person camera option, and even underwater exploring! The story takes place after Dragon Quest 2, so if you’ve played the Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake, you’ll appreciate some of the background, but honestly, it’s a fantastic game even if you go in completely fresh. And it’s still amazing to play on the original Switch, which is a huge plus!
