As someone who has been playing Pokémon TCG for decades, I must say that unlocking all of those Promo-A cards in Pokemon Pocket sounds like a delightful journey! If you’re new to the game or even a seasoned player, this guide is a great starting point.
Enthusiasts of the Pokémon Trading Card Game have been enthralled by promotional cards for a while now, and The Pokémon Company’s new product, Pokémon Pocket, acknowledges this fascination by launching the Promo-A category. This section offers 24 exceptional illustrations of popular Pokémon that are quite rare.
For those new to Pokemon TCG Pocket, it can be puzzling as to how to acquire the Promo Cards since they are not found in standard booster packs. The game itself doesn’t offer details on where, when, or how these Promo Cards can be obtained. If you’re one of those players searching for more Promo Cards, this comprehensive guide is just what you need – it provides all the information necessary to understand them.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Promo Cards, Explained
Just like the physical Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), the Pokemon Pocket also offers promotional cards, often referred to as Promo Cards. These exclusive cards can be acquired through unconventional means such as participating in events, claiming limited-time rewards, or purchasing additional content. The majority of Promo Cards share the same attributes as their standard counterparts, but some scarce ones may boast unique statistics or special abilities.
At present, the Pokedex within Pokemon Pocket encompasses 24 Promotional Cards categorized under Promo-A. It’s reasonable to anticipate that we’ll see even more of these cards in time, with new expansions on the horizon.
How to Get Promo-A Packs
At the moment, the only means of getting Promo Packs is by joining the time-limited events within Pokemon Pocket. Unlike regular items, these special packs cannot be bought but instead can be won. In the current November Drop Event, you have an opportunity to battle against Lapras ex. Each win grants you a Promo Pack as a reward.
In the Lapras ex Event, any Promo-A Packs you manage to win need to be manually collected by you. To do this, navigate to the Gifts section – it’s represented by a gift box icon located in the upper right corner of your home screen. You have 29 days to claim and open these packs before they become invalid.

How to Unlock All Promo-A Cards
Apart from a unique depiction of Pikachu, the remaining 23 Promotional Cards found within the game titled “Pocket” can be acquired through free-to-play offerings. You essentially have three approaches to get them: participating in events, completing missions, or tackling tasks.
Complete the Advanced Training
Once you’ve selected your starting pack in Pocket and completed the initial briefing, it’s time for some advanced training! To access this, navigate to the Battle Menu and click on ‘Guide’. This will display a series of tasks that you can complete to earn seven Trainer Promo Cards: Potion, Pokedex, X Speed, Hand Scope, Red Card, Poke Ball, and Professor’s Research.
Participate In the Lapras ex’s Drop Event
From November 1st onwards, you’ll find the Solo Battle menu ready for you to take on Lapras challenges. Every time you conquer it, you’ll get a shot at winning a Promo-A Pack. This pack will always include one card that is a special Promo edition.
To battle Lapras ex, you’ll need event-exclusive tokens. By completing the special missions for each battle, you can earn Event Hourglasses, which help regenerate tokens. If you don’t have Hourglasses, you’ll have to wait 60 hours for your tokens to fully regenerate, receiving one token every 12 hours.
The Lapras ex’s Drop Event ends in November 18.
Pull Cards in the Chansey Pick Event
During the Wonder Pick Event in Pokemon Pocket, you have an opportunity to join Chansey Selections. These selections ensure a Chansey or Meowth Promo card and show up at random. To take part, you’ll need two tokens. Additionally, there will be Bonus Selections scattered throughout the event, which are free and offer the same Promo cards as well.
Exchange Shop Tickets with Promo Cards
In simpler terms, you can swap your Store Vouchers for Trainer Boost Cards in the store. If you’ve bought the Elite Access Pass for Pokemon Pocket, you get an extra opportunity to trade a Premium Ticket at the store, which will unlock one of the scarcest Promotional Cards featuring Pikachu (009/P-A).
