As a seasoned Stardew Valley player with countless hours invested in farming and friendship, I must say that the latest update (1.6) has truly brought a new lease of life to this beloved game. The addition of the experimental mobile multiplayer feature is nothing short of exhilarating! After years of enjoying the PC version’s multiplayer mode, it’s heartening to see the same experience being extended to the mobile platform.
In a thrilling update, Stardew Valley version 1.6 has just arrived on mobile devices! The ingenious creator, Eric Barone, has included an unexpected bonus: a preliminary mobile multiplayer feature that’s currently in testing. Gamers can enjoy this innovative mode, as long as they’re using the same game version and are connected to the same Wi-Fi or hotspot, or if they individually forward their game ports. Stardew Valley enthusiasts who have been eagerly anticipating a multiplayer experience on PC since April 2018’s beta launch can now rejoice!
On his @ConcernedApe account on X, Barone revealed details about Stardew Valley’s secret multiplayer mode and cautioned users that it might contain bugs and other problems.
According to Barone, he kept the mode hidden from regular play because:
- It’s an experimental feature, so it might still have some bugs or issues.
- The nature of the mobile platform could make a multiplayer session frustrating, under certain scenarios.
Stardew Valley’s Mobile Multiplayer Has A Few Differences From Other Platforms
In his assessment, Barone highlights that unlike the original version, the mobile multiplayer mode lacks the feature for players to explore or discover new farms.
Additionally, he advises that users can link up exclusively through an IP address, but it’s important to note that a mobile device can still participate in a PC-hosted farm when connected via an IP address.
The Ideal Way To Connect For Mobile Multiplayer Access
As a gamer, I’ve learned it’s best to connect to Stardew Valley’s mobile multiplayer from a top-tier mobile device using WiFi, rather than relying on 4G or 5G data connections. The developer himself has warned us that playing over mobile data might lead to glitches, especially since the multiplayer mode is still in its experimental phase.
According to Barone, even though mobile data users can potentially stay connected, he warns that the service could prove to be quite frustrating.
Here’s How To Connect To Stardew Valley’s Mobile Multiplayer Feature
Upon opening the title screen on your mobile gadget, you will notice the Stardew Valley emblem accompanied by four clusters of leaves. Barone underscored the keys (arrows pointing up, down, left, and right) that will grant entry to the game.
Taps the leaves in the following order using the image above:
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← →
Next, click on the “?” icon located at the bottom right part of your screen. It’s reminiscent of the classic Konami Code!
Once you leave the “?” option, you’ll notice a cooperative game button on the main screen. You can then choose between “Hosting” a game or “Joining” an existing one.
To Join: Enter your host’s IP address.
To the Host: First, you’ll want to establish your farm. If there are any cabins, you can make them accessible for your guests using your IP address.
How To Find Your IP Address On Mobile For Stardew Valley Multiplayer Mode
Barone kindly offered a brief guide on how to locate your IP address, whether you’re using an iOS or Android device.
For iOS: Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Click the (i) next to your Wi-Fi name -> Look for “IP Address”
On Android, navigate to: Settings > Network & connections > Network > Connections > Tap on Wi-Fi network name > Search for “Network details” or “Wi-Fi details”, and there you should find the “IP address”.
For iOS users, when prompted to do so, you should give permission for local network access. This step is required just once to grant access to the multiplayer mode.
Here’s your game setup complete! Now, you can dive into the secret mobile multiplayer mode of Stardew Valley. If you encounter any unusual problems, please share them in our comments section so we can learn about everyone’s experience with this experimental feature.
