As a seasoned gamer who’s been around the block more times than I can count, it’s safe to say that the gaming world has never ceased to surprise me. The latest revelation about the voice behind EVA from Metal Gear Solid 3 is just another testament to this fact.

Metal Gear Solid and Disney films do not have anything in common… or do they?

It wasn’t until two decades following the debut of Metal Gear Solid 3 that the most enigmatic secret of the series was finally unraveled: who was the voice actress behind the iconic enigmatic spy, EVA, known as Suzette Miñet.

It seems that, just as a snake might meander within a cardboard container, the solution has been hidden in plain sight all along.

To ready the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami gathered a trio of renowned voice artists, known for their roles in the 2004 blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 3.

At hand were David Hayter, known as Naked Snake, Lori Alan, also recognized as The Boss, and the enigmatic Suzette Miñet, the creator of EVA.

Since the debut of “Metal Gear Solid 3”, fans have speculated that Suzette Miñet may not be a real character, as her name did not appear in any other acting credits following this release.

Regardless of two decades filled with intense online investigations, heated debates, and outlandish theories, the community surrounding the game “Metal Gear” could not reach a definitive agreement on the true identity of Suzette Miñet.

In that video, the lady standing behind Suzette Miñet is someone I’ve been familiar with for decades – her music has been part of my gaming soundtrack for years.

Jodi Benson, famously known for lending her voice to Ariel in the 1989 Disney version of The Little Mermaid, is none other than her.

In the movie, Benson made her debut as a lead in a full-length production, even though she already boasted an impressive theater background with a Tony Award nomination for her part in Crazy For You prior to this.

Apart from Ariel, Jodi Benson has lent her voice to various roles including Barbie in the Toy Story movies, Helen of Troy in the Hercules animated show, and numerous characters in Camp Lazlo animation.

Why Stars Hide?

Looking back, it might appear peculiar that someone would prefer anonymity during the launch of a blockbuster game like Metal Gear Solid 3. However, Benson had valid explanations for doing so.

Previously, Benson’s professional journey was primarily centered around content suitable for a broader, family audience, with a notable focus on productions associated with Disney.

The game titled “Metal Gear Solid 3” offered a refreshing shift, yet the actress declined participating due to concerns that it might clash with her routine tasks, particularly considering some intimate scenes between EVA and Naked Snake which were quite explicit in the game.

Her representative proposed adopting a variation of her pet’s name, Suzette Monet, for her last name, making a minor adjustment to distinguish it from the well-known French artist of the same name.

In essence, Suzette Miñet, who has captivated Metal Gear enthusiasts for years, is none other than the silent protector. So, during your next Halo jump into the heart of the Soviet Union, keep in mind that the Little Mermaid is watching over you.
