Why Lies of P Should Follow Hollow Knight: Silksong's Approach to News

As a gamer who’s been through countless hours of Soulslikes, I can confidently say that Lies of P has truly captured my imagination with its unique take on Pinocchio’s world. The developers have done an exceptional job of setting it apart from the crowd.

After its launch towards the end of 2023, “Lies of P” has garnered widespread acclaim among both critics and gamers alike, positioning itself as an exceptional Soulslike within the industry. By drawing inspiration from Carlo Collodi’s classic tale, “The Adventures of Pinocchio“, this game stands out distinctively amidst a sea of fresh releases in the genre. In response to its success, Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio are diligently developing their first significant DLC and a follow-up sequel.

So far, the development team for “Lies of P” has been releasing details about its downloadable content bit by bit, providing only minimal information except for the occasional update stating that it’s still in progress. This strategy is reminiscent of another developer working on a Soulslike-style game: Team Cherry, creators of “Hollow Knight: Silksong”. As they continue to work on “Lies of P”, they may find value in observing how “Silksong” handles its announcements, even if there are other lessons they can learn from it.

Lies of P Should Follow Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Footsteps

Lies of P’s Developers Should Keep Their Heads Down

Similarly to how Team Cherry maintains a quiet approach while developing Hollow Knight: Silksong, Neowiz and Round8 should adopt the same strategy during the creation of Lies of P’s DLC. While some fans have expressed disappointment about the lack of updates on Silksong, it’s beneficial that Team Cherry remains focused solely on the game instead of frequently providing teasers. Despite the wait, this approach keeps expectations realistic and prevents fans from getting overly excited with false promises.

Rather than continuously hinting at Lies of P‘s first downloadable content with vague teasers that may mislead fans or set unrealistic expectations about its immediate release, Neowiz and Round8 might instead focus all their efforts on diligently completing the project. Although this approach may result in a longer wait for updates than some fans may prefer, it will ultimately be rewarding when the polished content is made available to everyone.

Lies of P Can Still Learn From Silksong’s Development

Despite facing a similar scenario, Lies of P might benefit from adopting one key aspect from Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s development process – transparent communication. It’s reasonable that the team behind Silksong is striving to deliver an exceptional game, but the prolonged silence on updates has drawn some negative feedback. Given that the game was unveiled five years ago, it’s justifiable for fans to anticipate regular updates from the developers regarding the game’s progress.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve learned from my experience with Silksong that it’s crucial to keep fans in the loop. It’s not necessary to flood us with constant teases, building unrealistic expectations. Even a small update now and then, letting us know things are moving forward, would be much appreciated. Kudos to Director Jiwon Choi for penning a letter to fans about the DLC’s progress – that’s a great step towards keeping us informed!

If Lies of P could glean any insights from the development process of Silksong, it’s crucial for them to maintain open communication with their fanbase.

Neowiz and Round8 Should Plan For Lies of P’s Future

Additionally, Neowiz and Round8 might find it beneficial to study Silksong’s development process, as a follow-up to Lies of P is coming soon. Given that the first downloadable content is still being developed a year after the game’s launch, it can be expected that the sequel will require additional time for completion. Announcing plans for new content now would help both teams prepare for promoting the sequel effectively when it’s ready to be released.

The development process of Hollow Knight: Silksong hasn’t been flawless, and there’s a good argument for improved communication. However, Team Cherry’s dedication to sticking with the project no matter what, is an example that other developers should follow. Neowiz and Round8 would do well to study this approach as they work on Lies of P’s first DLC and future installments.
