Crimson Desert Dev’s Next Game Looks Like Pokemon Meets GTA

Pearl Abyss, the creators of the popular medieval adventure game Crimson Desert, is developing a very different kind of game. Crimson Desert is gaining fans with its large fantasy world and intense combat, but their new game, DokeV, has a completely unique style. It looks like a colorful mix of creatures similar to Pokémon dropped into the open-world setting of Grand Theft Auto, creating a wild and unpredictable experience.

Although Crimson Desert initially faced some criticism after its release on March 19th, player reviews have steadily improved. The game’s Metacritic score has risen from 7.7 to 8.6 in just a week. This increase is likely because players are becoming more comfortable with the controls, which were a major concern at first. Positive feedback about the game’s engaging gameplay and beautiful fantasy world – reminiscent of Pearl Abyss’s 2014 game, Black Desert Online – has also contributed to the higher ratings.

Pearl Abyss’ Next Game Looks Nothing Like Crimson Desert

Pearl Abyss, the creators of popular games like Black Desert Online, are moving in a different direction with their next title. Unlike their previous work, which focused on realistic medieval settings and intense combat, their upcoming game, DokeV, features a vibrant, cartoonish world and adorable creatures called Dokebi running wild in a city. First revealed in 2019, DokeV is an open-world adventure where players collect and battle with these unique creatures. The initial trailer shows a young girl using everyday objects to summon Dokebi, and then joining them for playful activities – from fashion shows and joyrides to epic battles against giant robots at construction sites.

Similar to the world of Pokémon, the monsters in DokeV, called Dokebi, already seem incredibly diverse, but with a unique urban style that really brings their personalities to life. The trailer introduces a few early on: a husky wearing a sailor scarf, a panda-like creature with boxing gloves, and a monster that looks like a mix between an armadillo and a pineapple. However, that’s just a small glimpse of what’s to come! Many other Dokebi appear briefly, including a large pink bear with a toucan beak, a giant yellow duckling in a gardening hat, a white rabbit on rollerskates, and even a futuristic insect hero sporting a strawberry sticker and a candy cane holster. These are just a few examples of the many fascinating creatures you’ll encounter.

Pearl Abyss hasn’t shared many updates on DokeV recently, making it difficult to predict when the game will be released. Originally slated for 2023, the latest official information came in October 2024 when they told Eurogamer it would launch approximately 18 months after Crimson Desert. Assuming that timeline hasn’t shifted, DokeV could arrive around September 2027. This means fans likely won’t have to wait much longer for more details on the game’s charming characters, city environments, and how it plays.

Before its full launch, Crimson Desert will likely receive a few more updates. While player feedback is improving and Pearl Abyss has fixed initial control problems, some players are still noticing visual issues on consoles, especially on the PS5 Pro, regarding resolution and overall clarity.
