December 5 Could Be a Huge Day for RPG Fans

As a seasoned RPG enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that 2024 has been a veritable treasure trove for fans of this beloved genre. From the highly-anticipated releases of games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to the recent Japanese role-playing game gems such as Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, this year has been an unparalleled feast for RPG fans.

2023 stood out as a fantastic year for role-playing games (RPGs), with the debut of critically acclaimed titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Hogwarts Legacy. So far, it seems that 2024 is shaping up to be equally impressive for RPG enthusiasts. This year has seen significant contributions from publishers like Sega, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Atlus, who have introduced exceptional Japanese role-playing games, such as Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. On the other side of the globe, American publishers like EA and Blizzard have also released popular RPGs, including Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, respectively.

Despite the fact that 2024 is drawing to a close, there are several impressive role-playing games (RPGs) yet to come in the remainder of the year. Among these, “Dragon Quest 3: HD-2D Remake” will hit all current-generation platforms on November 14, and “Fairy Tail 2” is scheduled for release on PlayStation, Switch, and PC on December 13. Additionally, a few other role-playing games are slated to debut in the final month of the year, including the turn-based JRPG “Fantasian: Neo Dimension,” set for release on December 5. A recent leak suggests that the fashion game “Infinity Nikki” may also launch on this date. If accurate, this would make December 5 a particularly exciting day for RPG fans.

Fantasian: Neo Dimension and Infinity Nikki May Both Launch on December 5

Fantasian: Neo Dimension is a Re-Release of an Apple Arcade Exclusive for Modern Platforms

Currently, it’s certain that “Fantasian: Neo Dimension” will be released on December 5th, which is actually a re-release of the 2021 game “Fantasian.” Originally exclusive to Apple Arcade, this role-playing game isn’t entirely new but has been adapted for various platforms. The key difference between the two versions lies in their compatibility: while the original was limited to iOS and macOS devices, “Fantasian: Neo Dimension” will be playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The game “Fantasian: Neo Dimension” is being created by Mistwalker Corporation, a Hawaii-based company renowned for their Xbox 360 exclusives like “Lost Odyssey” and “Blue Dragon”. Notably, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of “Final Fantasy”, and Nobuo Uematsu, a well-known composer, are deeply involved in this project. This is significant because it’s the first time Sakaguchi has collaborated with Square Enix, the publisher of the “Final Fantasy” series, since the release of “Final Fantasy X-2” in 2003. Interestingly, Mistwalker has been focusing on mobile games for the past decade; therefore, the launch of “Fantasian: Neo Dimension” on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms will be their first console release in over a decade.

Infinity Nikki is a Unique Open-World Dress-Up Game With a Focus on Exploration

The game titled “Infinity Nikki” marks the fifth installment in the prolonged “Nikki” series, a collection of dress-up games predominantly catering to female gamers. Developed by Chinese studio Papergames and its Singaporean branch InFold Pte. Ltd., these games have yet to make a significant impact in the Western market, but they are quite popular in Asia. Interestingly, Infinity Nikki might be the first game in this franchise to attract a wider, global audience due to its genre being more mainstream compared to previous versions. Contrary to earlier games in the “Nikki” series which primarily focused on traditional dress-up gameplay, Infinity Nikki is an open-world adventure RPG that incorporates elements of dress-up gameplay and encourages exploration as its key feature.

At this moment, the release date for “Infinity Nikki” is not definitive, but it’s planned to drop in 2024 across platforms like PS5, iOS, Android, and PC via the Epic Games Store. A listing on the PlayStation Store hints at a potential launch on December 4 or 5, depending on your timezone, although this isn’t officially confirmed yet. If the game indeed launches on the fifth of the month, it will make its debut alongside “Fantasian: Neo Dimension” and will release just one day before the RPG “Path of Exile 2” enters early access.
