As a long-time subscriber of Xbox Game Pass, October 2024 was undoubtedly one of my favorite months in recent memory, with the addition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 being the cherry on top. However, it seems that November 2024 might not live up to those high standards, at least if we’re to believe the marketing material released so far.
In the annals of Xbox Game Pass, October 2024 stands as one of its most noteworthy months. The addition of impressive Indie games like Sifu and Inscryption to the service was certainly notable, but it was the day-one launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that truly made October a standout. As reported by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 set a new record for the number of new Game Pass subscribers on its debut day.
It seems unlikely that Xbox Game Pass will easily match the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in the near future, and it appears Xbox is not making efforts to do so this November. However, contrary to what their recent marketing suggests, their line-up for November looks promising with a confirmed 10 games set to arrive during its first wave. Yet, there’s more to the story.
Xbox Game Pass’ November 2024 Line-Up Has Had Some Strange Marketing
Xbox Game Pass’ November 2024 Graphic Feels Misleading
In the past few days, Xbox Game Pass has unveiled its November Wave 1 selection, showcasing a list of seven games. Among these are highly anticipated day-one releases such as Goat Simulator: Remastered and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, as well as several Indie titles including Turnip Boy Robs a Bank and Harold Halibut. However, eagle-eyed enthusiasts may find something unusual in this line-up’s visual presentation.
Under each game’s picture, you’ll find details about the platforms where they can be played, as well as the specific tiers of Xbox Game Pass they will join. It becomes clear that four games are joining Xbox Game Pass Standard, while only three are being added to both Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
For those who may have overlooked the recent changes, Xbox Game Pass Standard is a more affordable option that provides game enthusiasts with access to an extensive collection of Game Pass games. However, unlike higher tiers, it doesn’t offer day-one releases or immediate access to games as they become available on the Game Pass Ultimate tier.
Essentially, the games depicted in the first wave of November’s Game Pass graphics – specifically, Harold Halibut, Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, Go Mecha Ball, The Rewinder, as well as Goat Simulator: Remastered, Flight Simulator 2024, and Metal Slug Tactics – have been accessible on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for quite some time. However, they are now transitioning to the standard version of Xbox Game Pass. This implies that out of the games displayed in the graphic, only three of them are fresh additions to Xbox Game Pass: Goat Simulator: Remastered, Flight Simulator 2024, and Metal Slug Tactics.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a bit tricked by this visual representation. You see, in the first wave of November alone, only three new games will be added to Xbox Game Pass. However, the image you’ve shared seems to suggest otherwise, showcasing seven potential additions. This might lead one to believe that the gaming lineup for the month is much more bustling than it truly is.
Xbox Game Pass’ Standard Tier Can’t Take Precedence
The graphic for Xbox Game Pass’ first wave of November releases might seem puzzling or even misleading in its marketing approach, but there could be a more significant issue brewing ahead. Upon closer examination of the rest of Xbox Game Pass’ November offerings, it’s been confirmed that 10 games will join the service from November 1 to November 19 – generally considered the end of wave 1. Interestingly, five out of these ten titles are standard additions to Game Pass, which means they are already accessible through Game Pass Ultimate. This might suggest a potential oversight or confusion in the presentation of new content for the service. However, it’s essential to keep an eye on the bigger picture and what the rest of November has in store for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
In the initial release for this month, just five fresh games are being added to Xbox Game Pass. That’s quite a drop compared to what we saw in previous months; October had 8 new games, while September and August each brought seven, and even July boasted an impressive 11.
Although it’s premature to conclude that this month’s line-up signifies a permanent shift for Xbox Game Pass, it’s worth considering the possibility. It’s crucial not to mislead subscribers by labeling Game Pass Standard titles as new games when they aren’t fresh additions for many users. Furthermore, Xbox should avoid prioritizing additional games for the Standard tier at the expense of reducing the number of new additions in the Ultimate tier.
