Most Immature Characters In The Series In Bleach

Key Takeaways

  • Key Takeaways

    • Several characters in Bleach lack emotional maturity but manage to survive.
    • Characters like Kon, Grimmjow, Nel, and Yumichika display immature traits.
    • Yumichika’s obsession with beauty and Gremmy’s immaturity affect their missions.

Most people would assume that, in a world full of bloodthirsty Hollows and immensely
    powerful Soul Reapers
and Arrancar, being emotionally mature and serious at all times are a must in order to survive. In the case of

    Bleach

though, several characters representing numerous factions have exposed their severe lack of maturity, yet still manage to see it through in one piece, at least, most of the time.

    Bleach’s

author Tite Kubo has always enjoyed inserting small doses of humor into the story to help break up the escalating tension, and the majority of the time, it’s the most childish characters who deliver these moments for audiences to enjoy. On other occasions though, these individuals might seem silly and unserious on the surface, but are simply putting up an act to hide their devastating powers that lie underneath.

    1
    Kon

Kon’s Childish Antics Make Him A Pretty Useless Ally, But Great Comedic Relief

The reason for Kon’s existence was, originally, to control Ichigo’s body for him while he went off to patrol Karakura Town as a Soul Reaper. It soon becomes obvious though that Kon himself is little more than an egotistical, selfish, and ultimately immature artificial spirit who is largely useless as an ally. For much of the story, Kon is either getting into trouble while in Ichigo’s body, sneaking into forbidden areas, or obsessing over
    Rukia
; all of which results in a character who has some serious growing up to do. Kon’s child-like personality sees him constantly diving head first into mischief, with many of these wild escapades being showcased in
    Bleach’s
    anime filler episodes.

    1
    Grimmjow

Grimmjow Tends Not To Think About The Consequences Of His Actions

Out of all of the Espada, Grimmjow is often seen to be the most rash and outlandish of the pack, always acting out on his own and even disobeying Aizen’s orders, if it means he can score one more shot against his arch rival; Ichigo. When Grimmjow first appeared in the world of the living and proceeded to obliterate Ichigo, he was going against his higher ups, all so he could have a quick brawl to kill some time.

He also cannot stand the fact that Ichigo is equal to him in terms of strength. Rather than looking at Aizen’s bigger plan, Grimmjow’s tunnel vision sees him fixated on Ichigo, rather than being humbled and accepting his strength. Grimmjow still possesses some incredible power as an Arrancar, but he’s a little too hot-headed to be considered a mature member of the group.

    1
    Dondochakka & Pesche

The Dynamic Duo That Always Manage To Cheer Nel Up

    Fans of the
    Bleach
anime will remember Dondochakka and Pesche as the two hollow-looking guardians that appear alongside a young Nel at the beginning of
    the Arrancar arc
. While they are certainly both respectable for how far they go to keep Nel protected, for much of their screentime, this dynamic duo are telling poop jokes, playing tag with Nel, or even just dozing off in the middle of a fight. During Uryu’s battle-of-the-minds with Szayelaporro, what should have been a quick fight becomes an endless battle due to Dondochakka and Pesche disrupting over and over again to make jokes. Maybe one day they can grow up a little and start supporting Ichigo and the gang in a more meaningful way, but for now, these guys are mostly used as comedy relief.

    1
    Keigo Asano

Ichigo’s Loud-Mouthed Friend Who Is Known For Over-The-Top Hijinks

Keigo is one of the few close friends Ichigo has in the world of the living who was largely unaware of his alternate Soul Reaper persona. As a result, he only really appears during scenes in the school where he’s either screaming at the top of his lungs, teasing Ichigo over the color of his hair, or getting kicked out of class for causing trouble. Though there have been signs of Keigo having grown up after
    the timeskip
, early in the series, his character was largely defined as being that one guy who just can’t help but scream “ICHIGO” every time he walks through the school gates. Nonetheless, he’s still one of Ichigo’s closest pals, and is at least a lot of fun to be around.

    1
    Nel

Nel’s Immaturity Hides Her Real Identity As An Ex-Espada

When Ichigo first runs into Nel after entering Hueco Mundo, he assumes that she’s nothing more than a child who simply knows her way around the area, not realizing that she was actually once a member of the Espada. While Nel assumes her child form though, her view of the world is certainly a lot different than would be expected from such a fearsome warrior.

When she’s not drooling on Ichigo or crying about every little inconvenience, Nel will show up to absorb entire attacks with her own mouth without even batting an eye. Even when Nel reveals her true form though, she still displays erratic and immature characteristics, such as how she almost hugs Ichigo to death as if she’s still a child after she transforms.

    1
    Yumichika Ayasegawa

Yumichika’s Childish Obsession With Beauty Can Often Get In The Way Of The Mission

There’s only really one thing Yumichika values in the world, and that’s beauty. Sure, he’s still a dependable member of
    the Soul Society
who will follow his captain’s orders to a fault, so long as it doesn’t risk screwing up his hair or cracking a nail. Yumichika will often let this obsession get in the way of the mission, especially earlier in the story, such as when he failed to track down Ichigo and Ganju. Admittedly, he’s definitely begun to mature throughout the series and has started looking past people’s looks, but it’s honestly baffling that he was inducted into Squad 11 when taking into account how unserious Yumichika can be.

    1
    Gremmy Thoumeaux

Pairing Gremmy’s Immature Mind With So Much Power Was Never Going To End Well

    Gremmy might just be the
    most terrifying Sternritter
    in all of
    Bleach
, which is saying something given the monsters on display. Though Gremmy appears to be a child, he possesses one of the most powerful abilities in the series; The Visionary. Gremmy’s twisted mind has the ability to turn fantasy into reality, and since he has a pretty immature and sadistic way of looking at the world, it usually doesn’t end well for his opponents. During his battle with Kenpachi, he also made it evident that he holds not a care in the world for his allies, and is willing to take them down if it means scoring him a few more kills for himself. Pairing this kind of personality with an ability so utterly devastating inevitably created a recipe for disaster.

    1
    Shunsui Kyoraku

Shunsui Rarely Takes A Situation Seriously, Even If It’s A World-Threatening Fight

Despite being one of the strongest Soul Reapers still in active combat, Shunsui comes off as nothing more than a man whose still desperately clinging onto his youth, never having grown up. This does sort of make sense considering how immensely strong he is though, often leading to boredom. When he first comes up against Chad for example, Shunsui offers him a drink and casually avoids his attacks without a care in the world, despite the fact the literal enemy of society stands before him. A clear example of Shunsui’s child-like personality being on show comes during his duel with Espada number one, Coyote Stark. After casually dancing around the similarly unbothered Arrancar, Shunsui unveils
    his Bankai
, which uses children’s games as a way to manipulate and finish off opponents, both mentally and physically.
