Among them, Coyote Starrk stands out as one of the most intriguing and powerful characters. His life experience is marked by an eerie solitude, a testament to his immense power that causes death and despair wherever he goes.
For centuries, residents of Hueco Mundo have been a persistent problem for the Shinigami, acting as disruptive spirits that sow chaos in both the Living World and Seireitei. They do this by sucking innocent souls into their insatiable voids. Essentially confined to purgatory, these Hollow entities can potentially exist forever. As such, they’ve developed a system of power to maintain some semblance of order in the afterlife within the Bleach universe.
When numerous Empty Ones gather together, they create what’s called a Menos, which gradually grows stronger until it reaches the Vasto Lorde phase – the most potent form of an Empty One. Arrancar stand apart due to their exceptional power, having acquired Shinigami talents either by using a Hogyoku or by removing their masks, resulting in their beastly transformations called Resurrección.

24 Edrad Liones

Eagerly striving for greatness among the Arrancars, Edrad Liones aimed to achieve the rank of Vasto Lorde, the most powerful class of Hollows. Despite consuming over 3000 other Hollows, however, Edrad failed to transform into a Vasto Lorde himself. In search of guidance, he approached Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and offered his service.
Although Edrad didn’t ascend to the rank of Vasto Lorde, he held a significant Adjuchas position, strong enough to square off against Ikkaku Madarame, the present lieutenant of the 11th Division. Despite being defeated by Ikkaku, Edrad displayed tenacity, astonishing Ikkaku with his Resurreccion, Volcanica, and even briefly dominating him with his Reiatsu. As an Arrancar, Edrad wasn’t solely reliant on raw power; he demonstrated strategic prowess in combat, exploiting vulnerabilities of his opponents.
23 Choe Neng Poww

Similar to Edrad Liones, Poww encountered Ikkaku Madarame, the Lieutenant of the 11th Division. However, unlike other Hollows, Poww decisively overpowered the lieutenant. Their confrontation took place within the Fake Karakura Town, a location where both Baraggan Louisenbairn and Poww were brought by Aizen to challenge the Gotei 13.
Choe Neng Poww belonged to Baraggan’s group (Fraccion), and even after they joined forces with Aizen, he continued addressing Baraggan as his ruler and deity. As an Arrancar, Poww stood out due to his immense size and physical prowess. With a powerful punch, he sent the 7th division captain, Sajin Komamura, soaring through the air for many miles, but ultimately fell to the Captain’s Bankai (a powerful spiritual weapon).
22 Shawlong Koufang

Much like Edrad Liones, Shawlong Koufang served under Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez as part of his five Fraccion, dedicating himself to him. He was the 11th Arrancar in Aizen’s army and distinguished himself among his fellow Adjuchas by ascending to lead Grimmjow’s Fraccion.
In the game of life and battles I find myself, I’m Shawlong – a seasoned warrior known for my keen intellect and strategic prowess. My years, more than most in Grimmjow’s Fraccion, have given me a unique edge. You see, I was older than even Grimmjow himself, a fact that adds depth to my battle wisdom.
21 Wonderweiss Margela
Arrancar #77 (The Only Modified Arrancar To Exist)
- Status: Killed by Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto
Even though Wonderweiss isn’t officially an Espada, his spiritual power level is equivalent to that of one. Unlike regular Arrancars, Wonderweiss was purposely altered by Aizen to contain Yamamoto’s abilities. Additionally, due to Wonderweiss’ incredible regenerative speed, complex strategies are seldom employed in combat because he typically attacks with raw, instinctual force, disregarding the damage inflicted upon him.
Beyond using abilities such as Cero, Bala, and Vagido, Wonderweiss predominantly resorts to physical attacks in close-combat situations. In Aizen’s fight against Yamamoto, Wonderweiss intervenes and momentarily seals the effects of Yamamoto’s Zanpakuto, which is noteworthy. However, for the Arrancar, this interruption didn’t prove beneficial as even without his Zanpakuto, Yamamoto remained a formidable opponent, using only hand-to-hand combat to vanquish the enhanced Arrancar.
20 Gantenbainne Mosqueda
107th Arrancar

Out of nowhere appears Privaron Espada, proving a formidable adversary for the trio consisting of Ichigo, Uryu, and Chad. Particularly against Chad, this Fullbringer offers an intriguing challenge due to his unique fighting style that involves punch daggers, which perfectly complements Chad’s raw combat abilities. Among Aizen’s army, he stands out as one of the more honorable Arrancar, gradually recognizing and respecting Chad’s strength before ultimately displaying his true power in a dramatic transformation.
Even though he displayed his powerful form, it was clear that he couldn’t compete with Chad’s immense strength when he activated the attacking power of his left arm, the Devil’s Left Arm. With just one shot, Mosqueda was felled, but managed to flee after this fight. Although the specifics of his survival aren’t fully understood, it’s indisputable that he emerged from this encounter alive.
19 Cirucci Sanderwicci
105th Arrancar
- Status: Killed by Szayelaporro Granz and resurrected by Mayuri Kurotsuchi later on
Among the Privaron Espada that Uryu must face in Bleach is Cirucci Sanderwicci, a villain with a confident demeanor and an impressive power reserve. Fortunately, Uryu’s Quincy abilities are strong enough to defeat her following a tough and exhausting fight.
In a transformed state, she assumed the shape of an aerial beast capable of inflicting substantial harm with her tail. Following her defeat at Uryu’s hands, she was transported to Szayelaporro Granz, who callously ended her life. However, during the Thousand-Year Blood War storyline, Mayuri Kurotsuchi miraculously reanimated her remains.
18 Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio
Arrancar Cientecimo Tercero (103rd)
- Status: Killed by Rudbornn Chelute and resurrected by Mayuri Kurotsuchi later on
In simpler terms, the Lower-Ranked Espada from Privaron, who were our initial adversaries during Ichigo and his companions’ attempt to infiltrate Hueco Mundo, had an interesting concept. However, they entered the story just as they became insignificant, and it soon became apparent that their powers, despite initially posing a challenge, weren’t particularly formidable.
Among the three of them, I must admit that Dordoni was undeniably the most formidable combatant. He gave Ichigo quite a run for his money, but let’s face it, his role in the story was primarily to amplify Ichigo’s menacing presence when he was serious. Consequently, despite possessing an impressive Resurreccion, it didn’t take much time before he was eliminated, eventually falling under Mayuri’s control.
17 Luppi Antenor
Sexta (6th) Espada
- Status: Killed by Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and resurrected by Mayuri Kurotsuchi later on
According to all reports, Luppi seemed destined to be among the most powerful Arrancar in the series, having risen to the rank of 6th Espada. In combat against Rangiku and Hitsugaya, he certainly proved his worth, even if it almost cost him his life before retreating. Yet, just as he was about to demonstrate the full extent of his power, Grimmjow returned and ended Luppi’s life in a rather abrupt manner, thus regaining Aizen’s favor.
He does come back as one of Mayuri’s puppets, but nothing will make up for the fact that Luppi was a pretty pointless character with one of the more boring Resurreccions out of all the Arrancar. He was pretty powerful in his own right, but his power definitely waned in comparison to some of the stronger and more notable Hollow in the series.
16 Zommari Rureaux
Septima (7th) Espada
- Status: Killed by Byakuya Kuchiki
Generally, people might expect the 7th Espada to pose a significant threat, and indeed, Zommari Rureaux demonstrated his formidable abilities when he displayed the full extent of his powers. Notably, his ability to manipulate another Shinigami’s Bankai and use it against them created an intense battle scenario in which any Shinigami would find themselves facing a real challenge.
In their battle, Rukia fought hard against the Espada, Zommari, but Byakuya used him merely as a means to demonstrate his immense power. His mastery of Kido thwarted any attempts by Zommari to seize his Bankai, and Byakuya’s swift speed left Zommari embarrassed before delivering the finishing blow. This Espada ended up praising Aizen in his last breaths, a feeble gesture before meeting his end forever.
15 Yammy Llargo
Diez (10) / Cero (0) Espada
- Status: Killed by Byakuya and Kenpachi
Yammy, an Arrancar, exudes an impressive presence and unquestionably demonstrates his formidable strength. Even without his Resurrección, he’s quite powerful. However, what makes this Espada particularly formidable is his ability to grow to a colossal size during his Resurrección. This transformation instills terror in numerous souls due to its sheer magnitude.
To Byakuya and Kenpachi, Yammy seems insignificant, leading them to argue over who should eliminate him instead of acknowledging his worth. This infuriates Yammy, as he fails to comprehend that he was outmatched in the battle and had no chance against these formidable opponents.
14 Aaroniero Arruruerie
Noveno (9th) Espada
- Status: Killed by Rukia
In the world of Bleach, Aaroniero stands out as one of the more despicable characters due to his high-ranking status as an Arrancar, considering he was originally a weak Hollow with limited abilities. However, this combatant possesses a hidden advantage – he can assimilate any potent Hollow from Bleach, whether alive or deceased, to enhance his own powers slightly.
Consequently, Aaroniero was changed from a frail Hollow into the 9th Espada, serving Aizen in his pursuit of the Hogyoku. Fans rejoiced as Rukia seized the spotlight, using her arsenal of abilities to defeat this Arrancar following a challenging battle, and her unveiled form was truly terrifying.
13 Szayelaporro Granz
Octava (8th) Espada
- Status: Poisoned and killed by Mayuri
In the thrilling world of Bleach, I’m Szayelaporro, the eccentric Espada known for my unpredictable behavior and scientific genius. On screen, my peculiar demeanor can be a bit grating, making me quite the character to love to hate. My clash with Mayuri is one of the series’ most anticipated moments, a battle that truly shines in this anime masterpiece.
Despite being killed by Mayuri’s Bankai, this Arrancar erroneously revives using Nemu’s body. However, this brief return to life is short-lived as Mayuri had laced Nemu’s body with a drug that severely impaired Szayelaporro’s senses and left him craving for his own demise. With just one strike from Mayuri’s weapon, Szayelaporro felt like he was experiencing an eternity of slow death.
12 The Tres Bestias (And Ayon)
Tier Harribel’s Fraccion And A Creature Formed By Their Left Arms
- Status: Alive (except Ayon)
Lady Halibel’s followers have been with her since even before Aizen’s transformative action when the troops were still battling to endure the harsh deserts of Heuco Mundo as Adjuchas. On their own, the Tres Bestias may not be the most powerful Hollow in Bleach, but united, Emilou Apacci, Franceska Mila Rose, and Cyan Sung-Sun can wreak quite a bit of havoc.
In extreme circumstances, these dedicated women could partially self-disintegrate to summon the massive creature called Ayon, a being with unbridled strength capable of snapping the neck of the powerful Quilge Opie who is fueled by Blut Vene. Since their dearest leader was captured, this threesome has been relentless in their efforts to free her from the grip of the Wandenreich, risking their lives to defeat the formidable Quincy army.
11 Nnoitra Gilga
Quinto (5th) Espada
- Status: Killed by Kenpachi
Nnoitra’s chilling grin conceals an unfriendly nature; he never displays compassion, not even towards his fellow Espada. Nleiel’s adversary is always eager for conflict and doesn’t care about fairness, nor does he shy away from attacking a defeated foe.
This formidable #5 Espada boasts a tough hide that’s hard for the legendary Tensa Zangetsu to penetrate, earning it the title of the sturdiest skin among all Arrancar. His Zanpakuto, Santa Teresa, possesses remarkable healing powers and grants Nnoitra extra limbs, while converting his blades into scythes, making him a lethal spider-like weapon on the battlefield.
10 Tier Harribel
Tres (3rd) Espada

Initially drifting without purpose within Hueco Mundo, Tier Harribel subsequently formed an alliance with Aizen after rescuing her from the oppressive rule of Baraggan Louisenbairn. Her faction, characterized by its strong feminist values, is brimming with devotion and affection, yet regrettably, Aizen, who is driven by ambition, does not reciprocate these feelings.
Initially taking Nelliel’s place as the third-ranking Espada, she gradually ascends through the ranks until she becomes the Queen of Hueco Mundo. However, her domain succumbs to an invasion by the Quincy, leading to Tier Harribel’s capture and subsequent role as a hostage held by Wandenreich.
9 Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez
Sexta (6th) Espada

Unlike most other Espada, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez doesn’t unquestioningly follow Aizen’s commands, instead choosing battles carefully. He feels that conflicts should have a sound purpose and the fights should be balanced. In episode 167, Grimmjow displayed his power by being the only Arrancar to withstand Aizen’s assault (alongside Tier Harribel), due to his Getsuga Tensho ability, which enhances durability inspired by a panther. Although Ichigo was victorious in their battle, there was no visual confirmation of Grimmjow’s death, leading to the outcome being uncertain.
Fervent fans could easily recognize that torso and voice in any setting, and it’s safe to say most were ecstatic as Grimmjow made a stealthy appearance during Urahara’s video conversation with Ichigo in Episode 8 of Thousand-Year Blood War. The anime subtly avoids revealing the cause behind this unexpected alliance, an event that transpired shortly after Ichigo parted ways with Orihime and their group in Heuco Mundo, on the presumption that Quilge Opie was immobilized. Fortunately, the unlikely champion arrived just in the nick of time and, as usual, didn’t hesitate to engage in a brawl with the Quincy. Seemingly overcoming the “Good Boy Gone Bad” label is now the new trend.
8 Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck
Former Tres (3rd) Espada

Initially, this beloved Arrancar was introduced as a defenseless, confused toddler to viewers, who forged an unexpected alliance with a competing Shinigami. Miraculously, even though small, her blows were just as impactful, until she learned to transform back into her adult form. However, she rarely engages in combat and finds no pleasure in violence; instead, she takes on the role of protector for the powerless.
Through Kisuke Urahara’s assistance, Nel’s fluctuation between adult and childlike forms becomes consistent, maintaining her at her maximum strength level as the former #3 Espada. Her distinct talent for ingesting Cero bursts highlights her peaceful demeanor and minimizes battle damage. Initially perceived as irritating, Nel swiftly demonstrates her immense power, leaving both Ichigo and fans astonished, underscoring her significant role within the Espada at one point.
7 Baraggan Louisenbairn
Segunda (2nd) Espada
- Status: Killed by Hachigen (although technically, suicide)
Due to the Shinigami colonizers taking control of Hueco Mundo, Barragan found himself reluctantly working alongside Aizen, and he does not openly acknowledge his ties with the Espada. Moreover, there’s a noticeable absence of the #2 tattoo on him.
Barragan’s power, called Senescencia, causes rapid aging and decay wherever he goes, eventually leading to his own downfall when Hachigen changed Barragan’s attacks into self-destructive ones. When Barragan releases his Resurreccion (a powerful form), he takes on a Grim Reaper-like appearance. His Senescencia attack then transforms into a vapor that spreads quickly, and he gains the ability to use the powerful technique called Gran Caída.
6 Ulquiorra Cifer
Cuatro (4th) Espada
- Status: Killed by Kurosaki Ichigo
Among all the challenges Ichigo faces, Emo Espada undoubtedly ranks high, second only to Aizen. He is one of the swiftest Arrancar, moving so fast that he easily dodges every petal released by Byakuya Kuchiki’s Bankai. Ulquiorra possesses rapid healing abilities, capable of regenerating limbs at astonishing speeds. This near-invincible combatant is known for a unique skill – performing a Double Resurreccion, a feat rarely seen among other Arrancar.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the staggering power Ulquiorra wields when he enters Segunda Etapa. His reiatsu is so potent, it’s as if he could suffocate his adversaries without even making a move to unleash his limitless arsenal of Lanza del Relampago. It’s hard to believe that Ulquiorra holds the position of just the #4 Espada, considering Aizen underestimated the true might of the Arrancars and their second releases.
5 Coyote Starrk
Primera (1st) Espada
- Status: Killed by Shunsui Kyoraku
Aizen wisely chose Starrk as the highest-ranking Espada, for this warrior’s power instills terror in enemies – unless he happens to be asleep. His very presence radiates death and despair, creating a desolate, bitter, and indifferent lifestyle. He is often left with only his soul sister, Lilynette Gingerbuck, as companionship. Starrk achieves peak strength when he reunites with Lilynette, forming a single entity, which triggers his Resurreccion.
Should he ultimately decide to engage in combat, this agile Sonido Master possesses an array of deadly techniques. He can conjure twin firearms and reiatsu swords (known as Colmillo) from his arsenal. Moreover, his swift Ceros aren’t confined to emanating solely from his chest or hands; they can spread out in various directions if necessary. If conventional methods prove insufficient, Starrk has the ability to forfeit his weapons, thereby summoning a pack of reiatsu-energized bomb-carrying wolves to carry out his commands instead.
