EA Survey Suggests Apex Legends Might Soon be Getting a Monthly Subscription Service

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing EA’s potential plans for Apex Legends. On one hand, I’m excited about the prospect of more exclusive rewards and content that could potentially enhance my gameplay experience. However, as someone who’s seen the gaming industry evolve over time, I can’t shake off the feeling of déjà vu when it comes to monetization strategies. It seems like we’re back to the days of “innovating” by milking players dry before they move on to the next big thing.

EA’s latest announcement hints at the possibility of a monthly subscription model for Apex Legends.

The recently conducted survey, distributed among Apex Legends players and subsequently to TopMob, inquires about participants’ preferences for a recurring subscription model. This proposed subscription would offer benefits such as a consistent inflow of in-game currency, monthly perks, and Battle Pass tier advancements to subscribers. The service might resemble Fortnite Crew, providing unique skins, V-bucks, and Battle Pass tiers for £9.99 per month.

Currently, Electronic Arts (EA) hasn’t publicly declared any monthly subscription plan for Apex Legends as of now. However, a recent survey seems to hint that they might be contemplating this idea. Previous surveys from EA often focus on future content and concepts which eventually get rolled out at some point.

It’s likely not shocking to many that Electronic Arts (EA) might be looking for additional ways to monetize Apex Legends, given that they admitted earlier this year they hadn’t met their financial goals from the game. Recently, EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated during a call with investors that their aim for Apex Legends is to “continue innovating within its core gameplay experience.

A notable change was reverting Apex Legends’ map and initial gameplay back to its launch version, hoping that a sense of nostalgia would draw in players.

As an enthusiastic fan, it’s intriguing to ponder if Electronic Arts (EA) can sustain its Apex Legends player base in the long run. For me and others who continue to play, it seems like their strategy might be to maximize profits from us gamers, perhaps anticipating a potential decline in players down the line.
