As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the intricate connections Remedy Entertainment weaves between their titles never fail to impress me. The latest addition to this connected universe is the brief encounter with Dylan Faden in Alan Wake 2: The Lakehouse.

In many aspects, Alan Wake 2 offers a balanced portrayal of its characters, similar to both Saga and the original Alan Wake. Yet, it’s worth noting how significantly it contributes to expanding the Remedy Connected Universe in the background.

This universe skillfully integrates and entwines plot aspects, such as Control, another highly praised title by Remedy Entertainment (with potential additions in the near future).

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled to witness the continuity of the storylines, and here’s how it goes from my perspective: In the Control universe, we got to know Jesse Faden, the protagonist who graced our screens. Now, in the upcoming sequel, Alan Wake 2: The Lakehouse, her brother, Dylan Faden, makes a brief but exciting appearance.

Discussing with Dylan in the DLC isn’t just linked to an undiscovered trophy/achievement (Murderer and Victim), but his part also functions as a sneak peek for Control 2, a sequel under construction, which is quite exciting!

Instead of potentially skipping right to the end without getting a chance to speak with him, here’s a simple guide we’ve prepared to help you encounter and engage in conversation with him.

Reach Dr. Diane’s Office In The Lakehouse

You can reach Dylan once you get to Sublevel 4, “Research and Archives.”

Getting to this floor requires you to have access via the Security Clearance 03 keycard, which can be automatically picked up when you get the Black Rock Launcher in Sublevel 1’s Inventory Management room.

Essentially, your goal is to find your way to Dr. Diane Marmont’s office on Level 4, as that’s where you’ll be transported to Oceanview Motel where Dylan currently is. However, getting to her office might require a bit of navigation.

The only hurdle between her office in the middle of the floor is a labyrinth of sorts filled with the Painted Shadow enemies and the Taken.

If you find yourself low on ammunition for your weapons, consider enabling the unlimited ammo option within the gameplay settings instead.

In other words, if you don’t activate any cheats, it would be wise to outrun these enemies now since you’ll encounter even more of them during the final boss battle of this DLC. It’s essential to save your ammunition for that fight.

As you progress, you may encounter numerous walls adorned with graffiti that could serve as hiding spots for potential threats. Therefore, tread cautiously when approaching these areas.

In simpler terms, rest assured, just stick to the developing route ahead, tackle any adversaries labeled ‘Taken’ around midway, and after making a turn, you’ll come across Diane’s office.

How To Enter The Oceanview Motel

Reaching Dylan involves entering Dr. Diane’s office first. Outside, you’ll find a lever that, when activated, controls the power and alters the arrangement within her room.

Prior to pulling the switch, you have the opportunity to tackle one of the five computer code riddles displayed nearby. Interestingly, the code for these puzzles can be found on a sticky note attached to the monitor screen if you choose to inspect it closely.

You can check out the room if you wish but ultimately to reach Dylan, flip the lever here so that it darkens the office, and be ready for a slight jumpscare here from a darkness-possessed Jules.

After rearranging the office layout, take a look at this video featuring Dr. Diane experiencing increased distress. Meanwhile, let’s focus on locating three specific items (picture collectibles) in this area, as they will help us create a new light fixture within the room.

Please take note that these aren’t actual titles, but rather concise descriptions of what each collectible portrays. Carefully inspect each one presented.

  • Cherry Blossom Tree: On the floor to the right of the office entrance when you walk back into it.
  • Three documents on a table: Right next to the projector on the table, just examine the description of the letter here from Dr. Casper Darling.
  • Man falling: On the floor from where you found the three documents, just to the right of them, hard to miss it.

You should now have a new objective to “Pull the light switch cord”.

For people who’ve played Control, this must be familiar to them but you need to essentially pull the cord three times to be transported to the Oceanview Motel.

Meeting And Interacting With Dylan Faden

After teleportation, proceed directly without entering any adjacent chambers as they are currently inaccessible for you.

Estevez realizes rather quickly that she finds herself once more within the Panopticon – an area initially designed for FBC Headquarters.

Make your way here, then ascend the staircase, and you’ll likely encounter Dylan Faden in his holding cell. He’s grown a bit of hair and sporting stubble since his debut in Control.

I could engage him in a line of questioning about his role in these occurrences and why he’s here among us, yet many of his enigmatic responses only deepen the puzzle.

After your quick exchange with him concludes, a brief cinematic sequence unfolds, showcasing what appear to be sneak peeks into potential settings for Control 2.

Nothing much is shown beyond that.

After that, you’ll find yourself back in Dr. Diane’s office, and you’ll receive the “Missable Trophy: Murderer and Victim” as a reward.
