Every Feature Confirmed For Overwatch: Classic

Every Feature Confirmed For Overwatch: Classic

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the announcement of Overwatch: Classic mode has stirred a sense of nostalgia within me. I remember the days when Overwatch was first released and how it quickly became one of my go-to games. Seeing the game revert back to its original form with 6v6 teams, heroes from patch 1.0, and classic maps is like taking a trip down memory lane.

On November 12th, a fresh gameplay mode is set to debut in the sequel, Overwatch 2, offering a delightful trip down memory lane for veteran players. The new Overwatch: Classic mode in Overwatch 2 will revive many elements that longtime fans have fond memories of from earlier times.

The traditional game modes are gaining popularity in long-lasting online games. Fortnite set the stage with its original mode, but Apex Legends followed suit earlier this month. Apex Legends’ new Launch Royale mode is adding fuel to this trend, and Overwatch 2 is eagerly awaited to seal the deal.

Everything Confirmed For The New Overwatch: Classic Event

From tomorrow, November 12, until December 2, there will be an Overwatch Classic event. During this time, players can get a feel for how the franchise has evolved over the years. This event won’t be a separate game but rather an option accessible through the Events Hub and the Main Menu’s Arcade section. Although it won’t exactly replicate the original Overwatch, with some elements like user interface and map design staying the same, it will still feature numerous changes to recreate that classic experience.

Patch 1.0 Heroes, Abilities, Maps, And Modes

As stated on the official Overwatch 2 website, the first Overwatch Classic event (with potential future events depending on fan feedback) transports players back to patch 1.0. This means the game will be played as it was in May 2016, with players able to choose from the original 21 heroes. In this event, these heroes’ Ultimates will charge quicker, just like they did in the initial Overwatch game, and their health pools, damage outputs, and ammunition sizes will match how they were before the Season 9 update of Overwatch 2.

Characters will go back to using the equipment they originally had. For example, Bastion’s gear has undergone significant changes compared to when it was primarily a defensive character.

Additionally, during the initial phase of this event, the No Hero Limits rule will apply—this means that teams can use multiple instances of the same hero. However, this rule won’t last forever; its duration is still undisclosed. Afterward, hero limits will be reinstated. Furthermore, players are required to stick with the original default skins for each character throughout the event.

As a gamer, I’d like to share that this game mode is specifically designed with a selection of Overwatch maps. These maps will be divided into four different modes: Assault, Escort, Hybrid, and Control. Notably, these maps will retain their original appearances as they are presented in Overwatch 2. Out of the numerous maps available, a total of 12 have been chosen for this mode, and here they are:

  • Hanamura
  • Temple of Anubis
  • Volskaya Industries
  • Ilios
  • Lijiang Tower
  • Nepal
  • Dorado
  • Route 66
  • Watchpoint: Gibraltar
  • Hollywood
  • King’s Row
  • Numbani

6v6 Teams in Overwatch: Classic

6-on-6 gameplay in Overwatch 2 has sparked much discussion since its sequel switched from the original game and adopted a 5-on-5 format. The question of which style is superior continues to be divisive, as it has been for some time. Fortunately, fans of traditional Overwatch will have the chance to relive old times with 6-on-6 team matches in this upcoming event.

The idea of reintroducing a 6-versus-6 format in Overwatch 2 has been under discussion for some time, and now, according to the game’s official site, this isn’t the end of the format. Season 14, starting on December 10, will introduce tests for the 6v6 mode within the game. Starting from December 17, Blizzard will use these test modes to gauge fan interest in the 6v6 format. Meanwhile, Overwatch: Classic is bringing back the original 6-versus-6 gameplay of Overwatch from 2016, not as a direct response to fan demands, but rather to recreate the original gameplay experience.
