Shonen manga is famous for its thrilling action and battles, which fans around the world love. When people think of the best anime in this style, they often remember the incredible fights between heroes and villains – and for good reason! However, this can sometimes make us overlook the equally important characters who help those fighters recover and continue their journeys: the healers.
Heroes in action-packed stories like Dragon Ball Z and Naruto often rely on dedicated medics and support characters to survive. Without them, characters like the Z Fighters would have lost to Frieza, and the ninja world would have been destroyed by Madara. These healers are essential to the hero’s journey, frequently serving as the unsung heroes who keep the team alive and allow the adventure to continue.
Orihime Inoue – Bleach
The anime Bleach features intense battles between incredibly skilled swordsmen, where the stakes are always life or death. Many of the strongest characters became popular through their impressive fights, but even they needed healing when injured. This is where Orihime comes in – she’s a key reason why the main characters were able to survive the most dangerous situations.
Orihime’s unique power, stemming from the spirit-infused hairpins she wears, is incredibly strong – some even consider it overpowered. She can use a technique called Twin-God Reflection Shield to heal almost any injury by manipulating time and space around the wounded person. This allows her to effortlessly mend broken limbs and even save people from fatal wounds, and she does so remarkably quickly.
Sakura Haruno – Naruto
Team 7 from Naruto—Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura—are considered heroes throughout the ninja world, largely because they were crucial in defeating powerful enemies who threatened to take over. Naruto and Sasuke are two of the most beloved anime characters ever created. Sakura, while often overlooked by fans, experienced significant growth and development throughout the series, overcoming a less-than-ideal attitude shown early on to become a strong kunoichi.
Sakura underwent rigorous training with Tsunade, a highly skilled and respected ninja, which transformed her from a timid teenager into a formidable warrior with exceptional medical skills. She surpassed all other healers in the series, capable of treating even the most severe wounds. In fact, Naruto wouldn’t have survived after Obito removed Kurama if it weren’t for her expertise. Sakura’s contributions revolutionized medical ninjutsu, a fact clearly demonstrated by the advancements seen in the Boruto series.
Josuke Higashikata – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has become a hugely popular and beloved anime series. Its success comes from a combination of compelling characters, intricate storylines, and a unique power system called ‘Stands.’ Stands are expressions of a user’s inner spirit, and they offer a wide range of abilities – some can be as simple as creating vines for movement, while others are powerful enough to alter reality itself.
Crazy Diamond, the Stand used by Josuke in Part 4 of the anime, is particularly fascinating. It allows Josuke to heal almost any injury by reverting a person’s body to a state before they were hurt. The only thing Crazy Diamond couldn’t do was revive someone who had already died – as long as there was still a spark of life, even severe injuries could be healed.
Eri – My Hero Academia
The world of My Hero Academia is actually a pretty good place to live, because people are born with amazing abilities and, for the most part, it’s a safe society. However, that doesn’t mean bad things don’t happen, and Eri’s story really highlights this. She was kidnapped and exploited because of her incredibly powerful Quirk, Rewind, as Overhaul wanted to use her for his plans.
Eri has a frighteningly powerful ability: she can rewind any living thing to an earlier state in time. When her Quirk first appeared, it accidentally affected her father, reducing him to a single cell and essentially erasing him. Despite this, Eri shows incredible promise as a future healer. She’s proven capable of restoring powers – she brought Mirio’s abilities back – and even a small piece of her Quirk could heal severe injuries, like the damage Izuku’s arms sustained from Shigaraki.
Dende – Dragon Ball Z
For many anime lovers, Dragon Ball is a cornerstone of the Shonen genre and the anime world in general. Fans worldwide cherish the series’ epic battles, which really set the standard for action anime. However, it’s easy to overlook the fact that the heroes, the Z Fighters, didn’t always overcome challenges with sheer strength. Even incredibly powerful characters like Goku sometimes needed assistance, especially from those who could heal.
While many characters are considered heroes in Dragon Ball, Dende stands out as particularly helpful. Rescued by Krillin and Gohan during the fight with Frieza, this young Namekian consistently healed the heroes when they were badly injured, quickly getting them back into battle. He was so skilled that he even saved Vegeta’s life, demonstrating the incredible power of his abilities.
Shoko Ieiri – Jujutsu Kaisen
A major achievement within the world of Jujutsu Kaisen is learning to control cursed energy so well that its harmful effects can be reversed. Normally, cursed energy damages the body, but with this advanced control, it can instead be used to heal injuries. This incredibly difficult skill has only been mastered by a very few exceptionally talented characters.

Shoko Ieri was uniquely skilled in this technique, being the only sorcerer known who could heal others, not just herself. Combined with her expert control over Cursed Energy and her background as a trained medical professional, she was the most effective healer in the series. Shoko was a vital asset to Jujutsu High, and many students likely wouldn’t have survived without her help.
Tony Tony Chopper
Despite its bright and lively setting, the world of One Piece is actually incredibly dangerous. Luffy and his crew constantly face threats from powerful pirates, the Marines, and terrifying sea creatures. They’ve come close to dying many times, and often owe their survival to their doctor, Chopper.
Tony Tony Chopper, trained by a world-renowned doctor, has become an essential part of Luffy’s journey to becoming the strongest pirate. He’s incredibly dedicated to his dream of finding cures for all diseases, and his hard work has made him a uniquely skilled doctor, capable of treating even seemingly untreatable conditions like Queen’s Ice Demon virus – surpassing even his teacher in ability.
Nanika – Hunter x Hunter
Nanika is a mysterious being from the anime Hunter x Hunter who lives inside Alluka Zoldyck, the sister of the powerful fighter Killua. Nanika possesses incredible power, able to alter reality and grant wishes. However, to receive a wish, someone must first fulfill a series of difficult and often harsh requests that Alluka is compelled to follow.

Killua discovered one exception to this rule: Nanika could heal people, which she did out of kindness. Unlike other wishes, this desire to restore someone’s health wasn’t punished. Because Nanika is incredibly powerful – able to manipulate time and space like few anime characters – she could heal nearly any injury, provided she made physical contact with the person.
