As a long-time gamer and fan of animated series, I must say that Fortiche Productions has truly outdone themselves with Arcane. The anticipation for this final season has been building since its debut on Netflix three years ago, and it’s safe to say that the wait was worth it.
Presently, Fortiche Productions is preparing to unveil the final chapter of “Arcane” throughout November. Three years have passed since this “League of Legends” TV series captivated Netflix audiences and garnered its fanbase, and now viewers have just a few more weeks to enjoy this show before it concludes its run. The creators of “Arcane” are aiming for an explosive finish in all areas, but particularly in the music department, as season two boasts a total of 22 tracks spread across its nine episodes.
In a conversation with Game Rant, music executive Alex Seaver expressed his eagerness to see how audiences would respond to the abundance of music in the series Arcane. The extensive playlist is strategically implemented to prioritize storytelling above all else, a decision partially driven by the positive reception of the show’s first season’s use of music. This positive response prompted artists to express interest in contributing to Arcane, recognizing its unique artistic potential. It was crucial for Seaver and his team to ensure that each musical artist represented in Arcane had ample opportunity to excel and have their contributions respected. Additionally, the animation and score team aimed to surpass their previous efforts to keep viewers engaged and intrigued.
Arcane Aims to Reinvent its Musical M.O
Few fans of Arcane would fail to praise the outstanding songs that are woven into the series’ meticulously crafted episodes. The powerful tracks from “Enemy” to “What Could Have Been”, particularly the latter, have left fans awestruck at the end of season one. In fact, “What Could Have Been” was highlighted at The Game Awards to honor Arcane. It’s clear that the show has earned a strong reputation due to its distinctive music and innovative visual storytelling, effectively applying Riot Games’ passion for music videos to an entirely new medium in a way that is unforgettable.
Seaver points out that the song creation process remained consistent across both seasons of Arcane, but since fans had been eagerly anticipating more content, the team aimed to engage viewers in new ways. Over the years, the show’s use of music has become distinctive, and the responsible team is now experimenting with refreshing expectations. The charcoal scene from Arcane’s 10th episode, which showcases a unique musical moment, serves as a significant example of this innovation. Seaver elaborated on this, stating…
By the second season, we had already mastered 11 songs, and we found ourselves asking, “Now that we’ve got the basics down, how can we delve deeper into these tunes and keep our audience guessing?” We didn’t want to simply repeat ourselves, so we aimed to create a fresh experience for viewers. In season two, you’ll find some songs where we intentionally altered our approach to keep things interesting, while still adhering to the narrative. I can’t reveal any specifics yet, but there are certainly some exciting twists ahead!
The initial collection of music from the first season of Arcane wasn’t without its difficulties. As Seaver explains, crafting “What Could Have Been” was a daunting task since the whole nine-episode story arc needed to be concluded using Sting’s voice, and he was among the team that breathed life into the song. Additionally, “What Could Have Been” was made as the only piece to wrap up the season with no other dialogue to contend with. However, the outcome of this challenge has proven significant, as Arcane’s season one finale has remained etched in fans’ memories while they eagerly awaited the show’s return.
So far, the initial three episodes of season two in Arcane have been quite impressive musically, and there are still six episodes remaining to keep viewers on their toes with even more surprises. If you’re an Arcane fan, it would be worth sticking around to find out how this vibrant and dramatic tale concludes.
