As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Potion is a lifesaver for any Pokemon TCG Pocket player, especially beginners. The card might not be as flashy as some other cards out there, but its ability to heal 20 HP to one of your damaged Pokemon is invaluable in the early game.
While Potion isn’t among the most META-relevant item cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket, it’s essential in the early game for increasing survival odds. As one of the few healing cards in the game, Potion restores 20 HP to one of your damaged Pokemon. But Pokemon TCG Pocket’s beginners often wonder: How do you unlock this card? Here’s the answer.

How to Get Potion for Free
Finishing up the Advanced Training assignments will grant you a complimentary Potion card. You can find these tasks in the Guide area within the Battle menu. Although Advanced Training is instantly accessible following Basic Training, it’s not mandatory, so some players may miss out on it.
Locate Advanced Training here: Battle > Guide > Scroll to the bottom.
How to Purchase Potion
- Where to Look: Shop (under the booster pack menu)
- Price: 2 Shop Tickets
As an enthusiastic player, I’d be thrilled to let you know that you can purchase multiple copies of the Potion item card from the in-game shop. Each Potion costs two Shop Tickets, a familiar currency in our beloved Pokemon Pocket, which we earn by completing missions or participating in special, time-limited events.
While conducting tests, I acquired a set of five Potion cards at a combined cost of ten tickets. It’s not entirely clear whether there are any restrictions on the number of these Potions that can be bought.
Other Methods for Getting Potion
As a dedicated Pokemon TCG enthusiast, it’s quite routine to encounter Potion cards among other item cards. They might not be as exciting as rare holographic cards, but they can certainly be found in the shop, earned through training rewards, Wonder Picks, and Promo Packs.
Among the three types of cards that could appear in booster packs, it’s just the fossil ones – Helix Fossil, Dome Fossil, and Old Amber.
Potion Might Show Up in Wonder Picks
In the Pokemon Pocket game, Wonder Pick provides a distinct way to acquire cards by utilizing a special resource named Wonder Pick Stamina. With this feature, you can draw a random card from another player’s previously opened pack, potentially finding items like Potions. However, it’s usually not wise to spend valuable resources on such common cards.
Potion Can be a Promo Pack Reward
In the Lapras ex drop event, one of the earliest limited-time events by Pocket, players could secure booster packs labeled as Promo-A. Notably, these packs come with a promise that they will include Promo cards, so you might end up getting a Potion card from them.
Is Potion Worth It?
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the Potion card isn’t considered a ‘go-to’ item in my Pokémon TCG Live game. Despite its apparent usefulness for healing, I can only include two Potions in my deck, which limits the total HP recovery to 40. On the other hand, Supporter cards like Erika offer more extensive healing capabilities and are often considered essential additions to any competitive deck.
For newcomers in Pokemon Pocket who find themselves short on Supporter cards, make full use of the Potion by applying it to your current Pokemon during battles, thus extending your time in combat.
