2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for One Piece and the Straw Hat crew. The manga is progressing well into its final story arc, and the anime will be back on April 5th. Plus, the second season of the live-action series on Netflix has been released to mostly positive reviews, proving it’s one of the best adaptations of its kind. No matter how fans experience the story—whether through the manga, anime, or live-action series—Luffy and his crew remain consistently engaging and lovable.
While One Piece boasts impressive world-building, captivating island locations, and intriguing political storylines, the true key to its popularity lies with the Straw Hat crew. Characters like Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Robin, Chopper, Franky, Brook, Usopp, and Jinbe have become beloved icons, and their strong bonds with each other are at the core of the series’ appeal. Let’s take a closer look at each of these characters, including their age, height, and birthday.
Curious about Luffy’s age, Zoro’s height, or the birthdays of the main characters in One Piece? If so, keep reading to find out!
One Piece Statistics Chart
Currently, it doesn’t seem likely that the Straw Hat crew from One Piece will gain a new member, though the author, Eiichiro Oda, is known for surprises. The existing crew feels complete, as they don’t have any clear weaknesses that a new member would necessarily fix. While they could benefit from someone in a support role – like a blacksmith or scout – these aren’t essential, and wouldn’t significantly strengthen the team.
To easily view details about the Straw Hat Pirates, their information is presented in the table below.
I’ve put together all the character ages and heights, both before and after the timeskip! You’ll find the ‘before’ info in the first bullet point and the ‘after’ details in the second. Just a heads-up, I’ve rounded the heights to the nearest foot and inch for simplicity. Oh, and a neat little trick – you can click on any character’s name to jump straight to their section!

Luffy

-
- How Old Is Luffy: 17 (Debut)
- Luffy’s Birthday: May 5
- How Tall Is Luffy: 5’8″ / 172 cm (Debut)
-
- Luffy’s Debut Episode: I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates! (Episode 1)
- Luffy’s Devil Fruit: Gomu Gomu no Mi/Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika
- Luffy’s Current Bounty: 3 Billion Berries
- Luffy’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Mayumi Tanaka
- Luffy’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Colleen Clinkenbeard
It’s hard not to love Luffy! As the main character of One Piece and the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he’s the driving force behind their adventures. His endless desire to explore keeps the story moving and inspires his crew to chase their dreams and fight for what’s right. While he sometimes fits the typical shonen hero mold – with a big appetite and a goofy side – Luffy is incredibly endearing and motivating. He’s funny, heartfelt, inspiring, and can be truly frightening to his enemies. He’s the one who brought the Straw Hat crew together, and he has a special, fun relationship with each of his friends.
Luffy is a good captain, despite not being perfect. While he can be clever when he needs to be, he often acts on instinct, which sometimes causes problems for his crew. His childish behavior often frustrates people like Nami, and he has a habit of rushing into dangerous situations. Still, his crew clearly cares for and respects him, and they’re always willing to support him.
Luffy’s Best Moment In One Piece
It’s hard to choose just one amazing moment for Luffy, the main character, but if I had to, it would be when he punched the World Noble, Saint Charlos, at the Sabaody Archipelago. That single punch perfectly captures who Luffy is as a captain and a person.
Zoro
First Mate
-
- How Old Is Zoro: 19 (Debut)
- Zoro’s Birthday: November 11
- How Tall Is Zoro: 5’10” / 178 cm (Debut)
-
- Zoro’s Debut Episode: I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates! (Episode 1)
- Zoro’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Zoro’s Current Bounty: 1,111 Billion Berries
- Zoro’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Kazuya Nakai
- Zoro’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Christopher R. Sabat
Roronoa Zoro was the first member to join Luffy’s crew and is widely considered the second-in-command, though he doesn’t often take charge. Despite appearing more grown-up than many of his crewmates, Zoro is actually close in age to Luffy and Nami, and he’s happy to join in on their fun. Generally, though, he’s a serious and fiercely loyal swordsman who is completely devoted to Luffy. He’s willing to risk everything for his captain, and that commitment hasn’t changed since the day he joined the Straw Hats.
Zoro is a fearsome fighter who uses a unique three-sword fighting style, making him incredibly dangerous and hard to anticipate. Though he doesn’t have any supernatural powers from a Devil Fruit, his swordsmanship is exceptional, and his potential seems limitless. He’s arguably the most battle-hardened member of the Straw Hat crew, having already gained significant experience before joining. Zoro generally gets along well with everyone, except for his ongoing rivalry with Sanji, which provides a lot of comedic moments and has made both of them popular characters with fans.
Zoro isn’t quite as strong as Luffy, but he’s still an incredibly powerful fighter with very few rivals. Aside from a couple of famous names like Mihawk and Shanks, Zoro is easily one of the strongest swordsmen in One Piece, and he has the potential to become the very best. He’s also completely focused on achieving his goals and won’t hesitate to use lethal force when necessary. Of all the Straw Hat crew members, Zoro is likely responsible for the most defeats.
Zoro’s Best Moment In One Piece
Among the Straw Hat pirates, Zoro is often considered the coolest. He’s a former bounty hunter who fights with three swords, rarely gets flustered, and confidently challenges even the most powerful opponents. While he’s part of the crew’s strong core, Zoro is the most ruthless and determined to eliminate any obstacle, though he usually follows Luffy’s lead.
Zoro has had many exciting fights throughout One Piece, like his battles with Kaku, Mr. 1, and Pika. While these fights are entertaining, the series is more famous for its overall story than its action. Surprisingly, Zoro’s most impactful moment isn’t about his swordsmanship, but about his loyalty. At the end of the Thriller Bark arc, when Kuma attempts to take the injured Luffy, Zoro bravely offers himself as a substitute. Kuma transfers all of Luffy’s injuries to Zoro, leaving Zoro critically wounded but saving his captain.
Despite enduring a terrible experience, Zoro dismisses it as if it were nothing at all. It just proves what I’ve always said – Zoro is incredibly cool.
Nami
Navigator
-
- How Old Is Nami: 18 (Debut)
- Nami’s Birthday: July 3
- How Tall Is Nami: 5’7″ / 169 cm (Debut)
-
- Nami’s Debut Episode: I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates! (Episode 1)
- Nami’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Nami’s Current Bounty: 366 Million Berries
- Nami’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Akemi Okamura
- Nami’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Luci Christian
Nami has been a key member of the Straw Hat crew from the beginning, even though she doesn’t always stand out in battles or major story arcs. Her most important work happens behind the scenes – she’s the navigator responsible for charting the course and getting the crew to their destinations. Because the story doesn’t often show the crew’s journeys across the sea, it can seem like Nami doesn’t do much besides offer a playful tap to her crewmates. However, she’s a valuable and well-developed character.
Nami usually prefers to support her crew in battles, but she’s not afraid to fight when necessary. Her battles are clever and rely more on strategy than pure strength. Her weapon, the Clima-Tact, is enjoyable to watch and has been improved over time, though it doesn’t get featured often. Alongside Chopper and Robin, Nami is one of the most intelligent members of the Straw Hat crew, and her difficult past with Arlong has taught her how to overcome hardship.
Nami often keeps Luffy from making really bad decisions, and she’s a source of emotional support, almost like a mother figure to the crew. Even though she knows she isn’t as physically powerful as most of them, she usually ends up joining in on their adventures anyway.
Nami’s Best Moment In One Piece
Nami has many memorable scenes, but one of her most famous is pleading with Luffy for assistance at Arlong Park. However, many fans believe she truly shines after the time skip. She’s consistently impressive throughout the Whole Cake Island arc, and that strong performance continues into the Wano Country Saga. In Wano, she arguably delivers her most powerful moment yet, boldly affirming Luffy’s ambition to become Pirate King, even when facing a deadly threat from Ulti.
On its own, this moment might not feel particularly significant, especially considering it happens during a larger story arc and isn’t highlighted as a major event. However, this episode showcases Nami at her most courageous. Despite being severely injured, facing potential death, and fully aware of her dangerous situation, she refuses to concede to Ulti’s viewpoint that Kaido is destined to be Pirate King. Instead, she firmly declares her belief that Luffy will be the one to achieve that title. Even when confronted with the very real possibility of her own demise, Nami remains steadfast in her convictions.
Usopp
Sniper
-
- How Old Is Usopp: 17 (Debut)
- Usopp’s Birthday: April 1
- How Tall Is Usopp: 5’9″ / 174 cm (Debut)
-
- Usopp’s Debut Episode: I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates! (Episode 1)
- Usopp’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Usopp’s Current Bounty: 500 Million Berries
- Usopp’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Kappei Yamaguchi
- Usopp’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Sonny Strait
Usopp, the Straw Hats’ sniper, shares a lot of personality traits with his captain Luffy – they’re both energetic, playful, stubborn, and love exploring. However, Usopp is constantly worried about danger and his own safety, which often causes him distress that his crew doesn’t fully understand. Like Nami, he’s often the first to voice concerns when Luffy rushes into trouble. Despite his fears, Usopp always steps up to help and do what’s right, though he might complain (and cry!) about it first.
Usopp is still a bit hesitant at times, but he’s become much braver over the years. He’s faced significant challenges, just like the rest of the Straw Hat crew. While he doesn’t always fight their most powerful opponents, Usopp has defeated some impressive enemies, earning him a few memorable nicknames along the way.
Usopp is arguably the most debated member of the Straw Hat crew among fans. Because humor is so personal, the character designed for comic relief often divides viewers, especially since his jokes tend to follow a similar pattern. Despite this, he has strong relationships with many of the other main characters, like Luffy and Nami. What makes Usopp unique is his relatability – he demonstrates that you don’t need extraordinary fighting skills to be a valuable member of the crew. And it’s important to remember, he’s an incredibly skilled sniper, consistently ranking among the best in One Piece; his talent just isn’t always on display.
Usopp’s Best Moment In One Piece
Usopp often provides comic relief, but he also has many genuinely impressive moments – perhaps even more than most of the Straw Hats besides Luffy and Zoro. His battle with Perona is a standout in the Thriller Bark arc, and his defeat of Sugar in Dressrosa is one of the funniest scenes in the entire One Piece series. However, many fans consider his most iconic moment to be when Soge King (technically, Usopp in disguise) burned the World Government flag at Enies Lobby.
When people talk about Usopp’s defining moments in One Piece, the fight with Luffy in Water 7 always comes up. Usopp was furious that Luffy seemed so willing to abandon the Going Merry, so he challenged Luffy to a duel for ownership of the ship and effectively left the crew. Though he was clearly weaker, Usopp fought bravely before ultimately losing. Even now, many fans consider this to be one of the most heartbreaking episodes in the entire series.
Sanji
Cook
-
- How Old Is Sanji: 19 (Debut)
- Sanji’s Birthday: March 2
- How Tall Is Sanji: 5’10” / 177 cm (Debut)
-
- Sanji’s Debut Episode: Famous Cook! Sanji of the Sea Restaurant! (Episode 20)
- Sanji’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Sanji’s Current Bounty: 1,032 Billion Berries
- Sanji’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Hiroaki Hirata
- Sanji’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Eric Vale
Sanji rounds out the Straw Hats’ core trio, but he’s often seen as the weakest compared to Zoro and Luffy. This isn’t a reflection of his own abilities, though – it just highlights how strong those other two are. Sanji has consistently proven he can go toe-to-toe with formidable enemies. First appearing in the Baratie Arc, he came across as a boastful chef with a big mouth, but he has a deep respect for food and believes everyone deserves a good meal, even his opponents. Though he can get annoyed by Luffy’s behavior, Sanji is generally very loyal and respectful of his captain, and he’s more likely to question Luffy’s orders than Zoro is.
Zoro and Sanji often clash and argue, but these fights are usually for laughs and don’t really hurt the crew’s progress – they mostly just get on each other’s nerves. Sanji is also well-known for his strong attraction to women, a trait that’s become a defining part of his personality, particularly since the timeskip and especially during the Fish-Man Island arc. While he sees himself as a gentleman, his behavior often veers into inappropriate territory.
Sanji is a generally well-liked character, and one of my favorites, but he doesn’t appeal to everyone quite as much as Luffy or Zoro. While his comedic moments are intended to be funny, they can become tiresome due to repetition. That said, when Sanji is serious, he’s a fantastic character and we should see more of that side of him.
Sanji’s Best Moment In One Piece
Sanji often gets overlooked because of his playful personality, but he’s actually involved in some of the most emotional moments in One Piece. Although Luffy and Usopp have key roles in the Water 7 fight, Sanji makes a huge contribution to that memorable and sad scene. He also demonstrates his loyalty to Luffy and genuine care for Zoro during Zoro’s defining moment, even though he usually hides his feelings. The Whole Cake Island arc gives Sanji plenty of opportunities to stand out, which is fitting since it focuses on his backstory. While his fight with Luffy is touching, it doesn’t quite have the same impact as Usopp’s breakdown in Water 7.
While there are many amazing moments, Sanji feeding Gin when they first meet is truly special. It’s a fairly early scene in One Piece, so choosing it as Sanji’s best might seem obvious. Still, it perfectly showcases his compassionate nature and willingness to help anyone in need, even if it’s just offering food.
Tony Tony Chopper
Doctor
-
- How Old Is Chopper: 15 (Debut)
- Chopper’s Birthday: December 24
- How Tall Is Chopper: 2’11” / 90 cm (Debut)
-
- Chopper’s Debut Episode: Are You Happy? the Doctor Called Witch! (Episode 81)
- Chopper’s Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi
- Chopper’s Current Bounty: 1 Thousand Berries
- Chopper’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Ikue Otani
- Chopper’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Brina Palencia
Everyone loves Chopper! He’s designed to be incredibly cute, like a classic mascot, and a less skilled writer might have made him just a simple, lovable figure. But Oda developed Chopper into a fully realized character with meaningful relationships and interactions with the rest of the Straw Hat crew.
Chopper isn’t much younger than the rest of the Straw Hat crew, but he often seems like a child. He’s quite innocent and easily led, frequently joining Luffy and Usopp’s playful schemes or believing things that aren’t true. However, he’s grown a lot since the timeskip and is now less likely to go along with silly plans. What’s most important is that he’s a very skilled doctor who takes his job seriously.
Though Chopper doesn’t always have the spotlight like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, he’s incredibly likeable. Beyond his adorable appearance, Chopper is genuinely innocent and makes everyone want to care for him. He deeply values all life and always tries to help others. While he isn’t a frequent fighter, Chopper’s unique abilities are essential to the Straw Hat crew – no one else can do what he does.
Chopper’s Best Moment In One Piece
Tony Tony Chopper, the Straw Hat crew’s doctor, often plays a supporting role in major story arcs, usually contributing comedic relief. However, his transformation into Monster Point during the Enies Lobby arc was a genuinely impressive – and slightly frightening – moment.
Nico Robin
Archaeologist
-
- How Old Is Robin: 28 (Debut)
- Robin’s Birthday: February 6
- How Tall Is Robin: 6’2″ / 188 cm (Debut)
-
- Robin’s Debut Episode: Deliver Princess Vivi! the Luffy Pirates Set Sail! (Episode 67)
- Robin’s Devil Fruit: Hana Hana no Mi
- Robin’s Current Bounty: 930 Million Berries
- Robin’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Yuriko Yamaguchi
- Robin’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Stephanie Young
Nico Robin is a calm and collected member of the Straw Hat crew who enjoys all things adorable. When she first joined, she was reserved and kept to herself, due to a difficult past. While initially enigmatic, she became more open and friendly after the events at Enies Lobby. Since then, Robin has remained fiercely loyal to Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats, and her dedication only seems to deepen as their adventures continue.
After the time skip, Robin often takes a backseat in fights. Though she’s a skilled combatant, she doesn’t frequently get chances to showcase her abilities, which is understandable given her calm personality. However, when provoked, Robin can be an incredibly fierce fighter, even more so than Zoro.
Robin is a fantastic person, though she doesn’t always have the chance to shine. She carries herself with a confidence that comes with experience, and seems more grown-up than the others on the team. She’s also got a sharp, sometimes dark, sense of humor, and you definitely wouldn’t want to cross her.
Robin’s Best Moment In One Piece
Nico Robin’s declaration that she wants to live during the Enies Lobby arc is arguably her strongest moment, and perhaps one of the most memorable in all of One Piece. The image of her crying at that moment has become truly iconic.
Another great moment is when Robin powerfully defeats Yama in the Skypiea arc. It’s too bad we haven’t seen her unleash that kind of strength again.
Franky
Shipwright
-
- How Old Is Franky: 34 (Debut)
- Franky’s Birthday: March 9
- How Tall Is Franky: 7’5″ / 225 cm (Debut)
-
- Franky’s Debut Episode: Pirate Abduction Incident! a Pirate Ship That Can Only Await Her End! (Episode 233)
- Franky’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Franky’s Current Bounty: 394 Million Berries
- Franky’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Kazuki Yao
- Franky’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Patrick Seitz
Franky definitely has the most unique body type among the Straw Hat Pirates. Before the two-year adventure, he looked like a mix between Johnny Bravo and Popeye. Now, he’s become even more robotic than human! Regardless of how you look at it, Franky always stands out.
Man, Franky is such a cool character! I first encountered him during the Water 7 arc, and he was a fantastic rival for the Straw Hats – seriously funny! He even had his own crew, the Franky Family, which was way more legitimate than Usopp’s attempts! Now, as the Straw Hats’ shipwright, he’s absolutely essential for keeping the Thousand Sunny sailing smoothly. While he’s a technical genius, let’s be real, his personality can be a lot to handle, especially after the timeskip! But beneath all the ‘SUPER!’ stuff, he’s actually really insightful and can be surprisingly level-headed when he needs to be. It’s funny to think that for a while, he was the oldest member of the crew, before Brook and Jinbe joined up!
Franky’s Best Moment In One Piece
Franky fearlessly crashing his bike into Big Mom was an incredibly bold move! Brook also shines in this moment. While both fights are great, Franky’s battle with Senor Pink is a standout part of the Dressrosa arc, though it’s often considered even more impressive than the Big Mom incident.
Brook
Musician
-
- How Old Is Brook: 88 (Debut)
- Brook’s Birthday: April 3
- How Tall Is Brook: 8’9″ / 266 cm (Debut)
-
- Brook’s Debut Episode: The Mysterious Skeleton Floating Through the Fog! Venture Into the Devil’s Sea! (Episode 337)
- Brook’s Devil Fruit: Yomi Yomi no Mi
- Brook’s Current Bounty: 383 Million Berries
- Brook’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Cho
- Brook’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Ian Sinclair
Man, Brook is just incredible! Even though he looks like he’s only 38, he’s actually lived a way longer life than anyone else in the Straw Hats. It’s a crazy story, but he used to sail with the Rumbar Pirates, and sadly, they all perished. But get this – his Devil Fruit power brought him back to life… as a skeleton! He spent about 50 years totally alone, just wandering, until he finally ran into Luffy and joined the crew. It’s such a wild backstory, and it makes him such a unique and awesome member of the team!
Brook adds music and fun to the Straw Hats’ adventures, keeping everyone’s spirits high. He’s also a surprisingly capable fighter. While he often cracks jokes – sometimes a little too crude for Nami’s liking – and seems like the crew’s entertainer, Brook is far from helpless. He can be a truly formidable opponent when he needs to be.
Brook’s Best Moment In One Piece
Putting the underwear requests aside, Soul King is generally very skilled and capable in battle, able to compete with many opponents. A great example is Brook’s impressive fight against Big Mom, complete with his now-famous line, “Young Lady.”
Jinbe
Helmsman
-
- How Old Is Jinbe: 44 (Debut)
- Jinbe’s Birthday: April 2
- How Tall Is Jinbe: 9’11” / 301 cm (Debut)
-
- Jinbe’s Debut Episode: A Warlord in Prison! Jimbei, the Honorable Pirate! (Episode 430)
- Jinbe’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Jinbe’s Current Bounty: 1,100 Billion Berries
- Jinbe’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Katsuhisa Hoki
- Jinbe’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Daniel Baugh
Jinbe is the newest member of the Straw Hat crew, and many fans believe he’ll be the last to join. Much older than the others, he’s a seasoned veteran – a former pirate captain who even had a past connection with Big Mom. Before he met Luffy, Jinbe was already a well-known figure, powerful enough to become one of the Seven Warlords. He’s a strong, smart, and caring person who is deeply committed to his beliefs.
Jinbe is a unique and incredibly valuable addition to the Straw Hat crew, comparable to Hancock in terms of importance. While Zoro has likely become stronger, Jinbe is still a powerful fighter who can hold his own alongside Zoro and Sanji in battle.
Although Jinbe is an important character in the world of One Piece, he doesn’t seem to be the most popular member of the Straw Hat crew, judging by how fans reacted when he joined. This might be because fans already knew a lot about him, so his arrival wasn’t as thrilling as other crewmates. Also, since he joined so late in the story, some fans see him more as an ally than a core member of the team.
Jinbe’s Best Moment In One Piece
Because Jinbe joined the crew relatively late, he doesn’t have many standout moments, particularly if you don’t include events from before he officially became a Straw Hat. One especially striking scene is when he dismissively refers to Big Mom as merely an Emperor, while firmly pledging his support for Luffy’s ambition to become Pirate King.
Honestly, Big Mom brought out the best in the Straw Hats.

Special Mention: Vivi
Temporary Member
-
- How Old Is Vivi: 16 (Debut)
- Vivi’s Birthday: February 2
- How Tall Is Vivi: 5’7″ / 169 cm (Debut)
-
- Vivi’s Debut Episode: The First Line of Defense? the Giant Whale Laboon Appears! (Episode 62)
- Vivi’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Vivi’s Current Bounty: Not Wanted
- Vivi’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Misa Watanabe
- Vivi’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Caitlin Glass
I always thought it was interesting how Vivi became a Straw Hat, even if just for a little while. She really only sailed with them during the Arabasta arc, but she made a huge impact in that short time. Even now, she pops up as a powerful leader on the world stage. What always struck me was how much she cared about her people and their freedom – she’s incredibly dedicated, passionate, and brave. It’s no wonder she and Luffy clicked so well, and got along with the rest of the crew too!
Despite leaving the Straw Hat crew and having little contact with them afterward, Vivi consistently understands what they’re doing and why. She can figure out their intentions just by hearing about their adventures. Though she’s no longer sailing with them, Vivi will always be considered one of the Straw Hats.
Vivi’s Best Moment(s) In One Piece
Vivi wasn’t a Straw Hat pirate for very long, so her most memorable moments are few, and arguably, her biggest impact on the world of One Piece comes after she leaves the crew. However, the Alabasta arc is a highlight of the series, and Vivi is essential to that story.
One of the most memorable scenes in the story happens when the Straw Hats are leaving Alabasta. As they set sail on the Going Merry, a silent goodbye takes place between the crew, Vivi, and Karoo—a powerfully moving moment that fans still talk about today. While incredibly touching, this scene isn’t just about Vivi; it’s a shared farewell between all the characters involved.
The princess has a particularly strong moment earlier in the story, when she’s finally able to use her voice to tell the people of Alabasta that the war with Crocodile is over. It’s a really impactful scene.
Special Mention: Zeus
Nami’s Reluctant Partner
-
- How Old Is Zeus: N/A
- Zeus’s Birthday: June 26
- How Tall Is Zeus: 7’7″ / 232 cm (Debut)
-
- Zeus’s Debut Episode: Totto Land! Emperor Big Mom Appears! (Episode 786)
- Zeus’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Zeus’s Current Bounty: Not Wanted
- Zeus’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Yu Mizushima
- Zeus’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Kevin D. Thelwell
Calling Zeus a member of the Straw Hat crew might be going too far, but this cloud creature definitely has a distinct personality and helps the team, especially Nami. He used to belong to Big Mom and was one of her strongest powers, loyally serving her for a long time.
Eventually, Nami gained control of Zeus, discovering the cloud was ideal for enhancing her weather powers. At first, she kept Zeus under control through intimidation, something only she could do. But their relationship evolved, and Zeus began to genuinely want to work alongside Nami as her partner.
Zeus’ Best Moment In One Piece
Zeus was essentially held captive by Nami for a long time, and she used intimidation to control him. This situation reached a critical point during the Wano arc when Zeus attempted to contact Big Mom again. He discovered he’d been replaced and, even worse, was now seen as a meal by whoever took his place. This led Zeus and Nami to work together, ultimately resulting in him merging with Nami’s Clima-Tact weapon.
From this moment on, Nami and Zeus are a proper team, rather than a hostage situation.
Special Mention: Going Merry
The Original Straw Hat Ship And A Beloved Nakama
- Debut Episode: “Anger Explosion! Kuro Vs. Luffy! How It Ends!” (Episode 17)
Ships aren’t characters in the traditional sense, but they’re incredibly important to a pirate crew’s sense of identity. The Going Merry, in particular, is treated like a close friend – almost like a crew member – by the Straw Hats, especially near the end of its time with them and during the events at Enies Lobby. Although it wasn’t the first ship the Straw Hats had, it appeared during the Syrup Village Arc as a gift to Luffy and Usopp.
The Going Merry was the Straw Hat crew’s ship for about 300 episodes, taking them from the East Blue to the Grand Line and all the way to Skypiea. Sadly, it began to fall apart when they arrived in Water 7, which caused a major disagreement between Usopp and Luffy about what to do with the aging ship.
Going Merry’s Best Moment In One Piece
Essentially, the story continues from the moment the Going Merry mysteriously reappears after the events at Enies Lobby. Although it sounds strange, this final appearance of the ship is one of the most memorable scenes in One Piece, and its impact is still felt. It’s a testament to Eiichiro Oda’s skill as a writer; a less talented creator might have made a sentient, dying ship seem cheesy, but Oda turned it into an unforgettable moment in anime.
Special Mention: Thousand Sunny
The Ultimate Ship For The Straw Hats
- Debut Episode: “The King of Animals That Overlooks the Sea! The Dream Ship Magnificently Completed!” (Episode 321)
When the Straw Hat Pirates’ beloved ship, the Going Merry, was no longer seaworthy, they needed a new one to continue their journey. This led to the creation of the Thousand Sunny. While it resembled the Going Merry in some ways, the Sunny was much larger and included several innovative features thanks to Franky’s shipbuilding skills. The ship was built by some of the most talented shipwrights in the world of One Piece, who poured all their effort and creativity into making it a true work of art. Considering this, the Thousand Sunny is expected to remain the Straw Hats’ ship for the rest of their adventure.
The Thousand Sunny is definitely bigger and more advanced than the Going Merry, which was a simpler, more classic ship. Some fans feel it doesn’t have quite the same charm as the Merry, and it hasn’t been the center of many memorable scenes. It’s a reliable and well-built ship, though perhaps a little over-the-top in places – which is understandable, considering it was designed by Franky!
Straw Hat Grand Fleet
Seven Crews Who Support Luffy’s Goal
The Straw Hat Grand Fleet is a group of pirate crews who have sworn loyalty to Luffy, first appearing during the Dressrosa arc. While not as strong as Luffy’s own crew, they’re all skilled and led by competent captains. Since their initial introduction, they haven’t been heavily featured in the story, but are said to be helping the Straw Hats behind the scenes. It’s expected they’ll become more important later on, as their existence suggests they’ll have a significant role to play in the final events.
This is a complete list of all the crews that make up the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, with special attention given to their captains.

Bartolomeo (Barto Club)
-
- How Old Is Bartolomeo: 26 (Debut)
- Bartolomeo’s Birthday: August 31
- How Tall Is Bartolomeo: 6’10” / 208 cm (Debut)
-
- Bartolomeo’s Debut Episode: A Formidable, Unknown Warrior! Here Comes Lucy! (Episode 633)
- Bartolomeo’s Devil Fruit: Bari Bari no Mi
- Bartolomeo’s Current Bounty: 200 Million Berries
- Bartolomeo’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Showtaro Morikubo
- Bartolomeo’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Tyson Rinehart
Bartolomeo is a huge fan of Luffy, ever since witnessing Luffy’s cheerful escape from execution. Though he can be a bit silly, Bartolomeo is a powerful fighter as the captain of the Barto Club, and he skillfully uses his Bari Bari no Mi Devil Fruit ability. He’s one of the most well-known leaders of the Grand Fleet, so much so that he even had his own storyline in the anime, the Silver Mine Arc, which takes place between the Dressrosa and Zou arcs.
Like Cavendish, Bartolomeo primarily appeared in a manga side story called “The Stories of the Self-Proclaimed Straw Hat Grand Fleet,” which ran from chapter 864 for 46 installments. These short stories focused on the adventures of the Grand Fleet and haven’t been adapted into the anime, so manga readers are the ones who have seen them.
Cavendish (Beautiful Pirates)
-
- How Old Is Cavendish: 24 (Debut)
- Cavendish’s Birthday: October 6
- How Tall Is Cavendish: 7’3″ / 220 cm (Debut)
-
- Cavendish’s Debut Episode: A Dangerous Love! The Dancer Girl – Violet! (Episode 632)
- Cavendish’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Cavendish’s Current Bounty: 330 Million Berries
- Cavendish’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Akira Ishida
- Cavendish’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Matt Shipman
Cavendish, a prince from the Bourgeois Kingdom, originally disliked Luffy because he wanted to be the center of attention, something Luffy naturally overshadowed. But after seeing Luffy and his crew battle Doflamingo, Cavendish began to change his opinion. Although a very skilled swordsman, Cavendish is even more formidable when he’s asleep, as this allows his aggressive alternate personality, Hakuba, to take over.
Many of the crews who joined the Straw Hat Grand Fleet haven’t played a significant role in the story since the end of the Dressrosa Arc, and Cavendish and his Beautiful Pirates are a prime example. Though he’s had a few moments in the spotlight, he mostly serves to show how much the Straw Hats have grown in strength and influence. However, it’s likely these allies will be important again as the story of One Piece moves towards its conclusion.
Sai (Happo Navy)
-
- How Old Is Sai: 28 (Debut)
- Sai’s Birthday: August 13
- How Tall Is Sai: 7’11” / 242 cm (Debut)
-
- Sai’s Debut Episode: A Dangerous Love! The Dancer Girl – Violet! (Episode 632)
- Sai’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Sai’s Current Bounty: 210 Million Berries
- Sai’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Koichi Hashimoto
- Sai’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Kyle Igneczi
I’m really intrigued by Sai! I first encountered him during the Corrida Colosseum arc, and while he can be a bit hot-headed sometimes, he definitely has a strong sense of right and wrong. He’s a leader – the head of the Happo Navy, actually, taking over from his grandfather, Chinjao. After everything that happened in Dressrosa, he became a loyal supporter of Luffy, and it was great to see him pop up again during the Levely Arc, even if it wasn’t a huge role. I’m hoping we see more of him in the future!
Sai is now almost always seen with Baby 5, a former member of the Donquixote Pirates. They fell in love during the events at Dressrosa and eventually got married. While this storyline wasn’t a major focus of the anime, it was a sweet and gave them something to do.
Ideo (Ideo Pirates)
-
- How Old Is Ideo: 22 (Debut)
- Ideo’s Birthday: October 10
- How Tall Is Ideo: 7’5″ / 225 cm (Debut)
-
- Ideo’s Debut Episode: A Formidable, Unknown Warrior! Here Comes Lucy! (Episode 633)
- Ideo’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Ideo’s Current Bounty: Unknown
- Ideo’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Masaki Aizawa
- Ideo’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Eric Rolon
Ideo is a skilled fighter who teamed up with Luffy and Cavendish at the Corrida Colosseum. He’s always striving to improve and places a high value on honor and respect. This is clear when he chooses to help the Straw Hats after they free him from Sugar, fighting alongside them instead of trying to profit from their bounty.
Since the Dressrosa arc, Ideo hasn’t been seen much in the anime. He has a distinctive fighting style and a strong personal code, so it would be awesome to see him return, even just for a single-episode fight.
Leo (Tontatta Pirates)
-
- How Old Is Leo: 25 (Debut)
- Leo’s Birthday: July 24
- How Tall Is Leo: 0’9″ / 23 cm (Debut)
-
- Leo’s Debut Episode: Explore! Fairies’ Island – Green Bit! (Episode 640)
- Leo’s Devil Fruit: Nui Nui no Mi
- Leo’s Current Bounty: Unknown
- Leo’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Kurumi Mamiya
- Leo’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Rachel Glass
Leo was an important leader in the Tontatta Kingdom and played a key role in the plan to free Dressrosa from Doflamingo’s control. He ultimately succeeded, with assistance from Luffy, Usopp, and the rest of the Straw Hat crew. Though sometimes a little naive, Leo is a loyal fighter who possesses a powerful Devil Fruit ability.
While Leo isn’t a major figure in the Grand Fleet, he’s shown up more often than many others. He’s a dedicated ally of Luffy and the Straw Hat crew, and it’s likely he’ll be involved in events to come.
Hajrudin (New Giant Warrior Pirates)
-
- How Old Is Hajrudin: 81 (Debut)
- Hajrudin’s Birthday: August 12
- How Tall Is Hajrudin: 72’2″ / 2200 cm (Debut)
-
- Hajrudin’s Debut Episode: The Fighting Fish Strike! Across the Deadly Iron Bridge! (Episode 639)
- Hajrudin’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Hajrudin’s Current Bounty: Unknown
- Hajrudin’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Tsuyoshi Koyama
- Hajrudin’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Randy E. Aguebor/Chris Guerrero
Hajrudin is a very proud and strong giant who loves to show off his strength. He also readily acknowledges and respects powerful pirates. Once part of Buggy’s Delivery service, he decided to align himself with the Straw Hat Grand Fleet as a way of thanking Luffy and, to some degree, Usopp.
Hajrudin shows he’s thoughtful and wants to build a better future for his people, which is why he’s been working hard to rebuild the Giant Warrior Pirates. It’s been a gradual process, but he’s made progress. Like other leaders, he hasn’t been featured much in the anime since the Dressrosa arc, but hopefully, that will change soon.
Orlumbus (Yonta Maria Grand Fleet)
-
- How Old Is Orlumbus: 42 (Debut)
- Orlumbus’s Birthday: June 23
- How Tall Is Orlumbus: 15’9″ / 480 cm (Debut)
-
- Orlumbus’s Debut Episode: A Dangerous Love! The Dancer Girl – Violet! (Episode 632)
- Orlumbus’s Devil Fruit: N/A
- Orlumbus’s Current Bounty: 148 Million Berries
- Orlumbus’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Jiro Saito
- Orlumbus’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Brandon Potter
Among all the captains in the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, Orlumbus hasn’t received much focus in One Piece. Despite this, he’s shown himself to be proud, dependable, intelligent, and has a strong sense of honor. The manga’s side story, “The Stories of the Self-Proclaimed Straw Hat Grand Fleet,” also reveals he’s a very kind-hearted person.
Though often overlooked among the Grand Fleet leaders, Orlumbus was a distinct character who contributed to liberating Dressrosa from Doflamingo’s rule.
Honorary Straw Hats
We’ve already discussed the main members of the Straw Hat crew and their fleet captains, and highlighted characters like Vivi. Officially, we’ve covered everyone, but I’d like to add two more. They journeyed with the Straw Hats for hundreds of chapters and episodes, and even though they weren’t official crewmates, they functioned as members for about ten years of the manga’s run.
Kin’emon
-
- How Old Is Kin’emo: 36 (Debut)
- Kin’emo’s Birthday: January 29
- How Tall Is Kin’emo: 9’8″ / 295 cm
-
- Kin’emo’s Debut Episode: “A Scorching Battle! Luffy vs. the Giant Dragon!” (Episode 580)
- Kin’emo’s Devil Fruit: Fuku Fuku no Mi
- Kin’emo’s Current Bounty: N/A
- Kin’emo’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Kenyu Horiuchi
- Kin’emo’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Chris Ryan
Kin’emon joined Luffy’s crew during the Punk Hazard arc and remained with them through the Wano arc, always loyal to Oden and focused on finding Momonosuke. At first, he was polite but cautious around the Straw Hats, maintaining samurai customs while keeping his distance. Over time, he grew to fully trust them, eventually seeing Luffy as someone on par with Oden himself.
Although Kin’emon isn’t connected to the Whole Cake Island arc, he’s been an important character throughout the Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, Zou, and especially the Wano arcs. Over these adventures, his bond with the Straw Hats grows, and he becomes more open with them and with viewers. Kin’emon’s main purpose was to save Wano, so officially joining a pirate crew like the Straw Hats wouldn’t align with his goals. Despite this, he functioned as a crew member for nearly ten years of the series’ publication.
Kouzuki Momonosuke
-
- How Old Is Momonosuke: 8 (Physically)
- Momonosuke’s Birthday: October 7
- How Tall Is Momonosuke: 3’7″ / 110 cm
-
- Momonosuke’s Debut Episode: “Luffy’s Freezing to Death!? The Terrifying Snow Woman, Monet!” (Episode 609)
- Momonosuke’s Devil Fruit: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu
- Momonosuke’s Current Bounty: N/A
- Momonosuke’s Anime Voice Actor (Japanese): Ai Orikasa
- Momonosuke’s Anime Voice Actor (English): Corinne Sudberg
Momonosuke joined the Straw Hats shortly after Kin’emon and quickly became a vital ally, despite not initially appearing as one. While his past and duties prevent him from formally becoming a crew member, he experiences life as one for a time. At the end of the Wano arc, Luffy invites him to continue sailing with them, hinting that Luffy always considered Momonosuke part of the team.
Momonosuke learns valuable leadership skills by observing Luffy’s actions in Dressrosa, Zou, and Wano, while also enjoying time with Nami and Robin. Although the Straw Hats know he’s the future ruler of Wano, they don’t give him special treatment; they include him as an equal member of the crew instead of pampering him like royalty.
Will There Be Another Straw Hat Pirate?
As One Piece nears its conclusion, fans are increasingly wondering if the Straw Hat crew will gain another member. With the final war already underway, it seems unlikely anyone could fully integrate into the crew and experience the usual adventures. However, even after the anime ends, Luffy and his crew are expected to continue their journey together as a family, unless the story takes a surprisingly conclusive or dark turn. Luffy has stated he wants a crew of ten, and currently has nine members (excluding himself), leaving room for one more.
So, even if a new pirate joins the Straw Hats, they could have a long and exciting career with the crew, even if we don’t see all of it. This raises the question: do the Straw Hats even need another member? They already have people covering most essential roles, so they aren’t desperately searching for help. But Luffy has always picked his crewmates based on his feelings, not just what skills they bring to the table, so fitting a specific purpose isn’t really a factor.
Recently, fans have been debating who might join the Straw Hat crew. Yamato, Bonney, and Loki are all strong contenders, with Yamato and Loki potentially becoming key players in the upcoming final war. However, Bonney currently seems like the most probable addition. Vivi is also a possibility, as many fans already consider her an ally to the crew.
