I’m really getting into Grime 2! To unlock new areas on the map, you need to find these things called Seals. But it’s not as simple as just finding a Seal – each zone actually has two of them, which makes things a little tricky!
This guide will show players how to find the Seals needed to unlock the map in Grime 2, and how to unlock Fast Travel. We’ll also explain how to use environmental clues to find key locations on the map.
Unlocking the Map in Grime 2
Grime 2 stands out from other Metroidvania games with a couple of unique features, one of which is how you unlock the map. Instead of automatically revealing areas, you need to find and interact with special objects called ‘Seals’ to open up the map.
Each zone in Grime 2 contains two Seals. Discovering and activating the first one unlocks the area map, but it doesn’t automatically show you the layout. You’ll need to explore and reveal the map by clearing the ‘fog of war’ before you can fully navigate the area.
Okay, as a fellow Grime 2 player, let me tell you the quickest way to find all the Seals! Seriously, just follow the little white handprints floating around. They’re like a trail, and they almost always lead you to something important – either a Surrogate or, even better, a Seal! If you keep an eye out for those handprints, you’ll find them way faster, trust me.
Now, we should enable fast travel between areas using the Surrogates – those giant, living hands that also serve as save points, portals, and places to unlock new abilities. You can unlock fast travel for each area by finding and activating its Second Seal.
Hidden second seals are common in this game. A good rule to follow is that if you find one seal in a high or upper location, the second one is likely hidden far below it, directly underneath and along a diagonal line. This symmetrical placement is a common design choice, and keeping it in mind will significantly improve your chances of finding both.
As you can see in the pictures, this pattern shows up throughout the game, so keep that in mind when you’re searching for the Seals in Grime 2. To find them quickly, always follow the white paint trails.
Players won’t be able to access all areas right away. Some areas require specific skills, like wall jumping, to unlock. You’ll likely need to revisit locations after learning new skills to activate all the Seals.
Okay, so when I’m exploring, I try to remember landmarks like those big stone monoliths or where enemies usually hang out. It really helps me find my way back to places before the map fully unlocks! If I get totally lost, though, I just follow the white trail – it always leads me right back to where I need to go.
The map will remain covered in fog until you unlock the first Seal, and fast travel won’t become available until you unlock the second. This creates a problem because when you die, you’ll respawn at the last Surrogate you visited. If you haven’t unlocked the second Seal in that area, you’ll respawn at the nearest Surrogate before that area, making it difficult to explore after each death.
