Players of Crimson Desert recently found a clever way to cook meat anywhere in the game world, even without access to a campfire. Despite some varying opinions, Crimson Desert has been very successful for Pearl Abyss, the game’s developer. Driven by excitement before its release, the game quickly surpassed expectations, selling 3 million copies in its first week. Pearl Abyss is continuing to support the game with updates and improvements.
I’m really excited about Crimson Desert because of how huge and open the world is β you can just wander around and discover things at your own pace. And the things you can do are incredible! It honestly reminds me a bit of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Like, the Axiom Force ability feels similar to Ultrahand, and you even use stamina to climb and glide, which is awesome. Honestly, there’s so much in the game β lots of skills, controls, and different systems β that it can feel a little overwhelming at first, and that’s turned some people off, but I think it’ll be worth learning!
Crimson Desert Alternative Cooking Methods
The various gameplay features in Crimson Desert allow for a lot of player creativity and experimentation. One player, Jec1027, recently shared a discovery on Reddit: they found a way to cook meat in the game using sunlight. By placing different types of meat on the ground and then using the Blinding Flash ability, they can reflect sunlight and cook it. The meat visibly changes after being ‘cooked’ β for example, ‘lean meat’ becomes ‘Grilled Meat’ and ‘Grilled Bird Meat,’ with the in-game description updating to reflect this.
The initial reaction to the game reveal has been very positive, with players particularly excited about the freedom it offers. Many appreciate that the game doesn’t hold your hand, encouraging you to learn through experimentation. Surprisingly, a lot of people are also commenting on how realistic the food looks! Some players have pointed out a missing feature β storage options β wondering why such a simple addition wasn’t included at launch. Beyond that, players are sharing helpful tips, like discovering that the Blinding Flash skill can also burn plants, which is useful if you don’t have fire arrows.

Beyond just cooking, the Blinding Flash skill in Crimson Desert is incredibly useful. After learning it, players can use it to mark important locations on the map, even in areas they haven’t discovered yet. This is great for scouting from high places and finding things like Abyss Nexuses. In battle, Blinding Flash can temporarily stun enemies, giving you an advantage in group fights. Later on, players can even unlock a powerful finishing move that lets them unleash a quick series of attacks on blinded opponents.
Pearl Abyss is constantly improving Crimson Desert based on what players are experiencing. They recently released an update that further refined the game’s controls, addressing concerns about their complexity. This update also introduced five new mounts, including powerful legendary creatures like the White Bear and mounts earned from defeating bosses, such as the Rock Tusk Warthog.
