Illfonic has shared more information about their new multiplayer game based on the Halloween movie series. The game will let players experience the terror of Michael Myers as he hunts in the town of Haddonfield, using abilities familiar to fans of the films. Halloween is scheduled to launch on PC (through Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on September 8, 2026.
After more than ten years of appearing as a character in the game Dead by Daylight, Michael Myers is getting his own dedicated video game, set in the town of Haddonfield. This new Halloween game, inspired by the 1978 film, focuses on creating a suspenseful and frightening experience. Players can choose to play as Michael Myers, the infamous killer, or as one of the townspeople trying to survive Halloween night. Those playing as townspeople must cooperate, warn others about the danger, get them to safety, and then escape themselves. They’ll need to hide and use their wits to avoid the player controlling Michael Myers, who has special abilities to track down and kill them.
Michael Myers’ Abilities and Survivor Gameplay Detailed in Latest Trailer
Illfonic recently detailed the abilities for both Michael Myers and the playable Civilians in a gameplay preview on March 26th. The preview showed Michael Myers designed to be a relentless and intimidating presence, constantly stalking and pressuring players as he hunts everyone in Haddonfield. The player controlling Michael will also earn extra rewards for quickly eliminating specific civilian targets.
Players controlling Michael Myers will have special abilities, like ‘Killer Sense,’ which gives a first-person view inside his mask – complete with breathing sounds – to create a truly immersive experience. This ability enhances awareness and builds ‘Stalk,’ making it easier to find and eliminate targets with increasingly brutal methods. Despite the closure of similar games like Friday the 13th: The Game, the continued success of Dead by Daylight proves there’s a large audience for horror games like Halloween.
Illfonic, in a post accompanying the game’s trailer, explained that Michael Myers will be a stealthy and calculating killer. But don’t mistake methodical for slow – players controlling Michael can use a special ability called ‘Shape Jump’ to move incredibly quickly around the map and surprise their victims, as long as those victims aren’t standing in the light. The developers hope this ability will recreate the famous jump scares from the Halloween movies. While Michael seems like a powerful opponent, the players taking on the roles of civilians will also have some advantages to help them survive.
Players, acting as Civilians, must warn and help their neighbors escape from an approaching threat, with escape routes changing each time they play. Each Civilian character has their own strengths, quirks, and personality. To survive, players need to quietly move around the map, using distractions and cover to avoid being detected by Michael Myers. They can also search for useful items like weapons and flashlights hidden throughout the environment.
In the game, players can use light to defend themselves against the killer and also call the police to slow him down. Once everyone in Haddonfield is safe, the players can escape. Even if a player is defeated by Michael, they can still help their team by returning as a Sheriff’s Deputy or Dr. Loomis – characters well-known from the Halloween movies. Players can also try to fight Michael with weapons if hiding doesn’t work, but defeating him is a real challenge. Halloween is one of many exciting horror games coming out in 2026.
The latest gameplay footage for the new Halloween game demonstrates how it’s capturing the chilling mood of the 1978 film and turning it into a suspenseful, interactive experience. The game uses an asymmetrical multiplayer format and focuses on Michael Myers as a relentless, seemingly unkillable threat, aiming for a faithful adaptation while still allowing for unpredictable moments. Similarly, the upcoming Hellraiser: Revival also appears to be a true adaptation, offering a multiplayer experience centered around building tension, strategic gameplay, and the iconic villain Pinhead.
