As a huge One Piece fan, I’m completely fascinated by the era of Joy Boy! It all started around 900 years ago, and for so long it’s been shrouded in mystery. But ever since the timeskip, Oda has been dropping hints and slowly revealing more about that time. And wow, the Final Saga has really blown things wide open! We’re learning so much about Joy Boy’s era, and it’s clear some unbelievably powerful characters walked the earth back then. While everyone was strong, a few of them really stand out as being on a whole other level!
Amatsuki Toki
Among the characters known from the ancient Void Century and the time of Joy Boy, Toki is likely the least powerful. Her Devil Fruit, the Toki Toki no Mi, allowed her to travel through time, bringing her from the Void Century to the present day.
This Devil Fruit doesn’t give Toki any powers for fighting, and we’ve seen in the Wano flashback that she isn’t a combatant. Despite not being strong herself, Toki plays a vital role in the story. Her actions were actually what allowed Wano Country to be freed.
Ragnir
Ragnir is a recently introduced character in the One Piece story arc set on Elbaf. Currently, Ragnir appears as an ice-powered squirrel that functions as a hammer wielded by Loki. However, Ragnir has a much longer history. Originally, this ice squirrel lived in Elbaf as a companion to the country’s God of War, and even fought alongside him against Nika. After the God of War died, his soul became bound to the iron hammer, ultimately creating the Ragnir we see today.
Considering everything, it’s clear Ragnir existed during the time of Joy Boy, somehow. I remember seeing how incredibly strong he was – he protected Elbaf’s famous Devil Fruit for centuries, after all.
Five Elders
The Five Elders are a powerful and intimidating group who work for Imu, a mysterious figure within the World Government. While fans have known about them for a while, their incredible abilities weren’t fully shown until the Egghead arc. Saturn took the lead in revealing their powers, demonstrating their unique and formidable skills.
The Five Elders’ exact age is unknown because of their immortality, granted by Imu’s powers, but they are at least 200 years old. Considering the world hasn’t seen war recently, it’s likely they rose to power around the time of the Void Century, and may have even been alive during the era of Joy Boy. They are incredibly powerful figures and are expected to be major villains in the story’s final arc.
Emeth
In the latest arc of One Piece, creator Eiichiro Oda revealed a member of the famed pirate Joy Boy’s crew: Emeth, a massive Iron Giant. Emeth had been inactive on the island of Egghead for hundreds of years, but Luffy’s call for freedom finally woke him up.
During the Egghead arc, Emeth proved to be a crucial ally to the Straw Hat Pirates. The crew wouldn’t have escaped the island without his help. Emeth is a powerful fighter himself, as he bravely confronted Warcury and even managed to break one of his tusks. He achieved this impressive feat using a special Haki technique given to him by Joy Boy before Joy Boy’s death.
Zunesha
Zunesha is an incredibly ancient character in the world of One Piece. She’s a massive, walking elephant who is cursed to wander the seas forever. The island of Zou rests on her back, and she’s demonstrated immense strength, even defeating one of Kaido’s top commanders with ease.
The true nature of Zunesha and its relationship with Joy Boy remain a mystery. However, Zunesha clearly feels deep regret and guilt concerning Joy Boy. Having known Joy Boy personally and lived through the Void Century, Zunesha was the one who signaled his return during the Wano arc.
Davy D. Jones
The name Davy Jones first appeared in the Long Ring Long Land arc of One Piece. Surprisingly, it resurfaced during the Elbaf flashback involving Rocks D. Xebec. Eiichiro Oda then revealed his full name is Davy D. Jones and that he lived during the time of Joy Boy in the Void Century.
I’ve been following the story, and it’s become clear that Davy D. Jones is a seriously formidable character. We learned he’s actually one of Imu’s greatest threats, putting him on a similar power level as Imu and even Joy Boy. Interestingly, it’s never been confirmed whether he’s actually dead; stories still circulate about him lurking at the bottom of the ocean. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing his influence again soon, especially as Blackbeard’s story continues to unfold.
Poseidon
One Piece features three incredibly powerful Ancient Weapons. So far, we’ve only seen one: Poseidon, who is a mermaid princess. Currently, that princess is Shirahoshi, who lives on Fishman Island. However, long ago, during the time of Joy Boy, another mermaid princess also possessed the power of Poseidon, though her name has been lost to history.
I’ve learned about Poseidon, and it’s truly frightening. It’s an Ancient Weapon with the potential to wipe out the world. Whoever controls it doesn’t just have power over the ocean, they can command all the Sea Kings – massive creatures capable of sinking islands and flooding the world. Basically, it’s a surefire way to build the most powerful naval force the One Piece world has ever seen.
Imu
Imu is the hidden ruler of the One Piece world, secretly controlling things from behind the scenes while sitting on the Empty Throne. Introduced during the Reverie Arc, Imu is being positioned as the ultimate villain of the story and is likely to be an incredibly powerful character.
Imu is incredibly powerful, ranking among the strongest characters both today and during the legendary Joy Boy’s time in the distant past. They have a unique and mysterious Devil Fruit ability that seems to grant magical powers, and allows them to control others through special contracts. It’s even suggested that Imu defeated Joy Boy and then wiped all records of him – and that era – from history.
Joy Boy
Joy Boy is a famous, almost mythical figure in the world of One Piece. We first heard about him through an ancient stone tablet on Fishman Island, and now, as the story reaches its climax, we’re learning more about who he was. It’s been revealed that Joy Boy was the very first pirate ever, making him an incredibly powerful and important figure in history.
As a huge One Piece fan, learning about Joy Boy has been incredible! It turns out he was basically the previous owner of Luffy’s Devil Fruit – the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika – and could even use Gear 5! But it doesn’t stop there – Joy Boy’s Haki was on another level, powerful enough to actually push back the Five Elders and genuinely scare Imu! Honestly, he’s considered the strongest character from his time, and a lot of fans, myself included, think he might be the strongest ever in the One Piece world.
