Marathon: Return on Investment 4 Guide – Finding Altered Wire and Storage Drives

The Traxus Return on Investment 4 contract requires Runners to collect several salvage items from the Perimeter map and deliver them to a DCON in one trip. Finding these specific items – Altered Wire and Storage Drives – can be tricky, but there are known locations where they appear more frequently. This guide will show you the best places to find them so you can successfully complete the Return on Investment 4 contract.

How to Complete Return on Investment 4 in Marathon

The Return on Investment 4 contract is designed to be completed most efficiently on the Perimeter map. This is because Perimeter has a lot of both Wire and Drive salvage, making it easier to collect everything you need in one playthrough compared to other maps. The contract has two parts to complete:

In a single run:

  1. Deliver Altered Wire or an Anomalous Wire to DCON (0/3)
  2. Deliver Storage Drives or an Amygdala Drive to DCON (0/3)

You can find useful parts by salvaging items. Regular wire and storage drives are common and give you one point of progress each. But, if you find strange wire or amygdala drives, those are rare and give you four points each. To move forward one step, you’ll need either three common salvaged parts or just one rare one.

Find the Wire Salvage

You can find Altered Wire at Station on Perimeter. Check all the rooms and containers – it’s often on counters and tables, but most likely inside Munitions Crates. Make sure you collect at least three Altered Wires before heading south.

Find the Drive Salvage

You can find Storage Drives at South Relay or North Relay on the Perimeter. Check inside the buildings – they’re often out in the open on tables and counters, but most of the time you’ll find them inside the Core Storage containers. Once you have at least three Storage Drives, or even just one Amygdala Drive, go to the nearest DCON machine – your map will show you where it is.

If you’re at South Relay, there is typically a DCON just south of the facility.

Deliver the Salvage to DCON

DCON stations are usually located near buildings that are protected by claymore mines. Before getting close, make sure to carefully disable any claymores near ladders and walkways.

Once you locate a DCON machine, open your inventory and put the required Salvage into it. The machine will then send the Salvage into space, completing your contract. You don’t need to extract to succeed, meaning you can continue searching for more loot if you have room.
