Pokemon GO Leak Reveals Mimikyu Debut

Thanks to recent leaks, it looks like Mimikyu is coming to Pokémon GO! Players will be able to get this Pokémon as part of the game’s free GO Pass.

For years, Pokémon GO players have been eager to see Mimikyu added to the game. This popular Pokémon has a large fanbase, but hasn’t been available in Pokémon GO even though it first appeared in the main series games a decade ago. Now, with the tenth anniversary of both Pokémon GO and the release of Generation 7 approaching, it looks like one of the last remaining Pokémon from that generation will finally be added.

Pokemon GO Mimikyu Debut Leaked in New Data Mining

The next Pokemon GO event, “A Shockingly Good Time,” is coming soon, and Mimikyu will be added to the game for the first time. The event will feature electric-type Pokemon like Pikachu, Magnemite, and Pawmi. Recently discovered game data shows that players can encounter Mimikyu as a reward for reaching levels 30 and 60 in the event’s Pokemon GO Pass.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, there’s a good chance Mimikyu might appear in Pokémon GO soon. Many players believe the upcoming Spotlight Hour featuring Pikachu on April 1st could be a trick – since Mimikyu often disguises itself as Pikachu, it would be a fitting surprise for April Fools’ Day. A listing for Mimikyu in the GO Pass even describes it as “Mimikyu (Mimikyu_Disguised)”, suggesting you might initially encounter it looking like a regular Pikachu. However, none of this has been confirmed yet.

Many Pokémon GO fans will be excited to see Mimikyu added to the game, as it was one of the last Pokémon from the seventh generation (Gen 7) still missing. As of late 2025, only a few Gen 7 Pokémon hadn’t appeared in Pokémon GO: Magearna, Minior, Mimikyu, Pyukumuku, Silvally, Type: Null, Wishiwashi, and Zeraora. Of those, Zeraora has been confirmed to be coming soon. Players can expect to encounter Zeraora during Pokémon GO Fest in Tokyo on May 29th. The release dates for the other remaining Gen 7 Pokémon are still unknown.

Introducing new Pokémon to Pokémon GO is tricky. The game needs to release them gradually to keep players interested, but can’t add them all at once. Currently, some Pokémon from Generation 4 – Manaphy, Phione, and Arceus – haven’t been added yet, even though Generation 7 Pokémon have been. While many more Pokémon from Generations 8 and 9 are still to come, some players are getting impatient. They point out that these generations are quite old – Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are now 20 years old, and the first of those generations was released 10 years before Pokémon GO came out.

Recently, data miners discovered more details about updates coming to Pokemon GO. A new in-game feature called the Explorer Gadget appears to be in development. Like the Pokemon GO Plus+, it will allow players to automatically spin PokeStops and catch Pokemon, even when they aren’t actively playing. However, it seems the Explorer Gadget will only work once per day, and Niantic hasn’t announced when it will be released.
