In Pokemon Pokopia, players will find a DJ Rotom and need to collect CDs to continue their journey. While these Pokopia CDs are fairly common throughout the game’s post-apocalyptic version of Kanto, many players might not know they’re color-coded – and that coloring actually serves a purpose.
Most players of Pokopia have likely learned how to use CDs with DJ Rotom to change the game’s music—that’s what they’re designed for! However, many players probably don’t spend much time examining these CDs in their inventory. It’s common to set them aside until finding a CD Player or DJ Rotom to actually use them with.
Pokopia CDs Are Region Color-Coded
If you don’t closely examine these CDs, you might miss a subtle detail: color-coded rings in the middle. The central hub of each CD is divided into two colors – one on top and one on the bottom. These colors are typically red, green, yellow (gold), and white (silver). Each Pokopia CD uses these colors to represent the region it comes from, and thankfully, every region is included in some way. While regions like Kanto and Johto have more CDs than newer regions like Paldea, even those later regions are still represented with a few corresponding discs.
A Reddit user named Imlegos noticed a pattern in the Pokémon games: each region has a distinct color scheme. Kanto uses red and green, Johto features yellow and white, Hoenn is dark red and dark blue, Sinnoh uses slate blue and dark pink, Unova is black and white, Kalos combines slate blue and red, Alola uses dark yellow and gray, Galar features bright blue and red, Hisui is pure green, and Paldea uses red and dark blue.
The game settings from spin-off titles – including the Orre region from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, the Fiore, Almia, and Oblivia regions from Pokemon Rangers, the Lental region from New Pokemon Snap, and the Pasio region from Pokemon Masters EX – are not included.

How to Find CDs in Pokemon Pokopia
- CDS can be found when players use Rock Smash to destroy Glowing Spots. These spawn locations are randomized but plentiful, so players should be sure to collect the goodies ASAP.
- Glowing Spots disappear after a certain number of interactions every day, but more will spawn the next day.
- Lucky Days can trigger more glowing spots (and thus more chances for CDS and other Pokopia Items to spawn)
- The Dowsing Machine, obtained by completing Hitmonchan’s Request, can help locate nearby glowing spots as well. A Search specialty Pokemon is also needed.
Pokopia CDs Are More Than Just Collectibles
While exploring the different areas of Pokopia, players collect CDs that connect them to the history of the Pokémon games. Each CD features a song from a specific game and visually represents that game’s region, helping fans easily recognize where the music comes from. Dedicated players will enjoy hunting for CDs from their favorite games, whether it’s classic music from Kanto or newer tunes from Paldea. Collecting these CDs in Pokopia is rewarding for both the ears and the eyes.
Players of Pokopia are incredibly imaginative! One person recently built Ash Ketchum’s house within the game, letting you explore it with music and scenery from the Kanto region. You can even create places like Union Cave and listen to Johto tunes on an in-game CD player. For those who like to collect everything, finding all 43 CDs is a must. You can speed up the process by using tools like the Dowsing Machine or checking Lucky Days, and don’t forget to look for glowing spots to ensure you find them all.
The fun in Pokopia isn’t ending with the main story! Even after finishing the game, Pokopia will continue with new events and plenty of new Pokémon. Leaks suggest the 2024 Teraleak update will add at least five brand-new areas – or biomes – through downloadable content, expanding the game’s map. While we don’t know what these areas will be yet, it’s a great opportunity to include locations inspired by the Johto region and others, along with new Pokémon, different forms for existing Pokémon, and new story content. This all points towards more DLC releases. Even small details, like color-coded CDs within the game, add to Pokopia’s world and create a nostalgic experience for players.
