Oblivion Battery Greenlit for Season Two

The sports anime “Oblivion Battery” is derived from a manga written by Eko Mikawa, which first appeared online on the Shōnen Jump+ website back in April 2018. The popularity of this original story remains strong as evidenced by the upcoming release of its 20th volume in December. The anime adaptation of “Oblivion Battery” debuted on April 10th, 2024, during the Spring 2024 Anime Season. Featuring a total of 12 episodes for its first season, it was available for global streaming at the same time as its Japan release, courtesy of Crunchyroll.

MyAnimeList describes season one as,

Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname used to be the top pitcher-catcher team in school baseball, earning the nickname “The General” for Kaname due to his strategic prowess combined with Kiyomine’s powerful pitches. Many aspiring players who dreamed of reaching the professional leagues found their dreams dashed by this dynamic duo.

16-year-old Tarou Yamada, once a player, now finds himself at Kotesashi High School – an ordinary public school lacking a baseball team. Unbeknownst to him, his fellow students include the duo who had previously dashed his baseball dreams. To add salt to the wound, he learns that the once rational “General” has been reduced to a boisterous class jester due to amnesia. Disheartened with baseball, Kaname pulled along a dismayed Kiyomine to Kotesashi merely because it was conveniently located near their residence.

In the early stages of Kotesashi establishing a new baseball team, Yamada encounters former players he previously admired who had stepped away from the sport. Though they may not be keen on returning now, Yamada is hopeful that by persuading such gifted athletes to get back into the game, they could potentially reach their goals and secure the national championship. However, this can only happen if everyone can endure Kaname’s constant humor.

For quite some time now, sports-themed anime has remained a favorite among viewers, even with the abundance of options in the genre. The revival of “Oblivion Battery” indicates that it continues to attract a substantial audience. Its first season garnered a commendable 7.5 score on MyAnimeList and was bookmarked by over 37,000 members.
