Fan-Favorite GOG Launches Game Preservation Program for Classic Titles

As a seasoned gamer with memories that span decades, I can confidently say that GOG has become my go-to digital storefront for classic titles. With their latest game preservation program, they’ve taken things to a whole new level. From Jade Empire to Fallout: New Vegas, the list of preserved games is nothing short of impressive.

For a long while, you’d only spot me on Steam. I steered clear of other digital marketplaces or platforms as much as possible, but GOG eventually managed to sway my preferences. Now, my collection boasts an expanding catalog of timeless games, like Jade Empire, The Suffering, and World in Conflict – each one a gem in its own right. Interestingly enough, their selection keeps getting better. GOG is introducing a game preservation program to make sure that games such as Fallout and Resident Evil stay accessible and operational for players even years after they’ve been released.

Currently, the program boasts a collection of 100 distinct game titles, each earning an average user rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars. The dedicated restoration team at GOG has implemented over 500 enhancements across these games. Some of the games included in this program are:

Amidst swift technological advancements, there’s an increasing sense of urgency to preserve video games from becoming extinct. The GOG Preservation Program is dedicated to maintaining the longevity and playability of cherished classics for upcoming generations to enjoy.
The aim is to incorporate both modern and timeless games into our Conservation Plan. To be eligible for this plan, each game undergoes a series of rigorous quality checks conducted by our team. If these checks reveal any issues, we work on refining and enhancing the game until it aligns with our quality benchmarks. Once approved, the game receives the Preservation Program seal and earns the title of Good Old Game.
On GOG, there are numerous timeless classics waiting in line that might be eligible for the program; however, we haven’t been able to verify this just yet. Our goal is to assist as many games as feasible, but sometimes it isn’t completely within our control.

Recently, GOG introduced the Resident Evil collection, which includes the initial three survival horror games from the classic series in a unified and efficient package. This setup enables contemporary gaming computers to operate and enjoy them without issues. However, this is just a start for the preservation program, as they plan to incorporate hundreds more titles by the year 2025. Yet, before each game is added, it will undergo rigorous quality checks to ensure the best possible experience.
