As a seasoned Warcraft veteran with countless hours spent in Azeroth and beyond, I must say that the Defense of Strahnbrad mission in Warcraft 3: Reforged brought back fond memories. The campaign’s opening, the Human Campaign, sets the stage perfectly for the epic narrative that unfolds later on.
In the preliminary storyline of Warcraft 3: Reforged, known as the prologue campaign, the stage is set for the main narrative. The Human Campaign, however, forms the primary portion of the tale. This campaign introduces players to Arthas Menethil, who holds the title of Crown Prince in Lordaeron. A significant amount of time has elapsed since the Second War, and tranquility has been restored within the Kingdom of Lordearon; but, ominous dangers are brewing on the horizon as King Terenas Menethil II chooses to disregard the Prophet’s warnings.
As a gamer embarking on the Human Campaign, my initial mission, “The Defense of Strahnbad,” serves as my introduction to mastering Arthas’ abilities and utilizing them effectively to bolster my troops.
Head to Strahnbrad
Following the scene, only Arthas and a handful of knights will be under your command. Here, there seems to be no action for you to take, so make your way southward on the road. Over time, the path will branch into two separate directions.
Heading northeast, you’ll encounter what seems like a villager with a mission for you. As you draw near, beware as bandits lie in wait to attack. Paladin Arthas can mend your troops, so watch their vitality and use Holy Light to maintain their well-being. You don’t have to slay these outlaws, but vanquishing them offers a great opportunity for Arthas to gain some Experience Points.
As a dedicated fan of Warcraft 3: Reforged, I personally enjoy the way hero characters like Arthas and Thrall gain experience from battles, leveling up as they go. What makes this game even more thrilling is the ability to unlock talents at higher levels. For instance, once Arthas reaches Level 2, a player can opt to unlock either Devotion Aura or Divine Shield for him.
As you make your way to Strahnbrad, you’ll encounter some villagers who have a task for you. Farmer Gerard is in need of assistance to retrieve his stolen ledger from the bandits. If you choose to handle this side mission first, head in the southeastern direction towards the bandit camp.
In this camp, there aren’t many outlaws causing trouble, so managing them should be straightforward. Make sure to monitor your team’s health and provide healing whenever necessary as they begin to tire. Gather the ledger and the mana elixir, then return to Gerard to hand over the ledger. After finishing this sub-mission, you’ll receive a Tome of Strength, which will enhance Arthas’s physical power permanently by one unit.
Defend Strahnbrad
Upon entering the village, you’ll witness a villager being brutally slain by a pair of orcs. Eliminate these orcs and continue towards Strahnbrad. Further along your journey, you’ll encounter additional orcs within the village.
As you reach the opposite end of the square, a cutscene will ensue. Make your way northwest where a more formidable orc riding a stolen horse resides. This adversary has significantly higher health and inflicts greater damage. It would be wise to prioritize eliminating the accompanying orcs first, followed by a concentrated attack on the large orc. Ensure the survival of your forces by employing Holy Light, and you will have successfully finished the initial mission of the Human Campaign once the cutscene concludes.
