The rights to the popular game Bloodborne have been purchased by Prima Aprilis, a new video game company funded by Saudi Arabia and led by industry veterans. They’ve quickly announced a remake of the critically acclaimed game, originally released in 2015. Bloodborne is widely considered a PlayStation 4 classic and one of FromSoftware’s best titles. Although it can be played on PlayStation 5, it has never been officially released on any other platform, and fans have long requested a remake, remaster, a sequel, or even a version for PC.
Okay, so this is insane! Apparently, the people at Prima Aprilis are really trusting this super-smart AI, and it told them to buy the rights to Bloodborne and remake it. And get this – they actually did! It’s not just coming someday, it’s out now on iOS and Android, but it’s a live-service game, which is…unexpected, to say the least. I can’t believe Bloodborne is on my phone!
Bloodborne Remake is a Live-Service Game
Look, as a gamer, I get it – time is precious. That’s why this new game is designed to be something you really invest in, almost like a second job. The old way of making a game, selling it, and hoping for the best just doesn’t fly anymore. We’re building something that people will want to play every day, and we’re betting on the fact that people are really into games that keep adding new stuff and letting you spend a little money here and there. We’re hoping to give Bloodborne fans exactly what they’re looking for. But honestly? I heard from a developer, Clyde Ferguson, who wished he could speak openly, and he basically said the team really didn’t want to make this game in the first place.
Okay, so there aren’t any official reviews for the Bloodborne remake yet, but I’ve been checking the App Store and people are leaving comments. It’s… weird. One person said it’s basically Mario Kart Tour, which is a strange comparison. Another one agreed and said it is Mario Kart Tour, just copy-pasted, but they’re using Blood Echoes as a way to get you to spend money. It sounds… concerning, honestly.
The online features for Bloodborne were active when I began writing, but have since been discontinued. Those who approved the game are reportedly receiving $50 million bonuses, directed by the AI system guiding their decisions. They’ve stated they believe these bonuses are earned. Unfortunately, players who purchased in-game currency, Blood Echoes, will not receive refunds.
