Recently, Phil Spencer explained why Microsoft decided against launching an interim upgrade for the Xbox Series X/S, similar to the PS5 Pro, indicating that demonstrating the advantages of these mid-gen updates can be challenging.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Phil Spencer explained that instead of focusing on a mid-generation upgrade like the PS5 Pro, Xbox prioritizes developing hardware that offers distinct value to their players and creators. They prefer not to invest in minor hardware upgrades solely for their own advantage.

Phil Spencer posed a question about whether a newly introduced mid-generation device offers a distinctive on-screen experience in some fashion. He noted that transitioning from the original Xbox to 360 used to mean stepping up from “standard definition” to “high definition,” but now, it’s more challenging to demonstrate the advantages of mid-generation consoles.

In the very same conversation, Spencer additionally verified that Xbox indeed intends to produce further consoles as well as handheld devices in the long run. This handheld console, however, is not expected to launch for several years.
