Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Torterra Raid Counters and Weaknesses

As a seasoned Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player with years of battling under my belt, I must say that the recent 7-star Tera Raid featuring Torterra has been quite the challenge! Having grown up with Turtwig as one of my first ever starter Pokemon in Generation 4, it’s always a delight to face off against its final evolved form.

Fans of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can engage in an entirely novel 7-star Tera Raid featuring Torterra, but this fight could pose a challenge for players if they’re unaware of its vulnerabilities and effective counters. Here are some top strategies to conquer the Pokemon.

Torterra, a well-loved Grass-type Pokémon, is the final evolution of Turtwig – one of the starter Pokémons from Generation 4. In the latest release, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can try to capture an exclusive version of this Pokémon during the Tera Raid event. Here’s what players should know about the event.

How to Participate in Unrivaled Torterra 7-Star Tera Raid

As a seasoned gamer, if you’ve already conquered a 7-Star Tera Raid in the past, consider yourself lucky, as this raid should automatically pop up for you. However, for those who are eager to embark on their first 7-Star Tera Raid adventure, there are a few hurdles to overcome first.

After achieving the 6-Star Tera Raids, players will now have an opportunity to engage in the even more challenging 7-Star Tera Raid events! Luckily, there’s no need to search through individual crystals manually anymore; just keep your eyes open for radiant raid markers on the map, and you’re all set!

What is Mighty Torterra Weak to in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

During the event, Torterra – a Pokemon that is both Grass and Ground type – will temporarily transform into a Ground-typed Torterra. This change makes it weak against attacks strong against Ground types, specifically Grass, Ice, and Water moves. However, players should be mindful of Torterra’s offensive abilities when choosing their strategies. With its Tera-type, Torterra gains an advantage in using both Grass and Ground-type attacks, thanks to the same-type attack bonus it receives.

Best Counters For Torterra Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

There are several viable strategies to take down Torterra, and here are some of the best ones.

Orthworm

Among all options, Orthworm stands out as the top pick for defeating Torterra. This character requires a Fighting Tera-type and Metronome as an item, boosting consecutive move damage by 20%. To bring down Torterra, begin with Iron Defense to enhance defense by six levels initially. Then, repeatedly use Body Press and Protect when stats are restored. The advantage of this approach is its versatility, allowing for solo play without depending on others for victory.

Haunter

As a fan, I’d like to share an unconventional yet effective strategy: Using Haunter with the Held Item Eviolite and Grass Tera-type can be quite beneficial when facing Torterra. The core tactic revolves around launching Clear Smog against Shell Smash, followed by a duo of Acid Spray and Nasty Plot to modify stats. Once that’s done, simply use Giga Drain to deal the final blow to Torterra.

Serperior

A useful Pokémon that could potentially turn the tide in battles is one option. Equipped with a Shell Bell and Grass Tera-type, players can outmaneuver Torterra by leveraging Grassy Terrain and Leaf Storm to amplify their damage output, followed by Giga Drain to finally deplete Torterra’s health.
