2026 is the Golden Age of Strategy: 15 Huge Games Still Coming This Year

2026 is proving to be an incredible year for strategy games. We’ve already seen amazing releases like MENACE, from the creators of Battle Brothers; Task Force Admiral, which delivered after ten years of work; and a fantastic sequel to Slay the Spire that surpassed the original. With so many hits in the first few months, the rest of the year looks promising – and there are still plenty of great strategy games on the way!

Let’s preview the most anticipated strategy games of 2026, covering both classic real-time and groundbreaking grand-strategy experiences. The most exciting titles are still on the horizon!

15 – Gilded Destiny

If you’ve been hoping for a grand strategy game that truly captures the spirit of the industrial age, and weren’t completely satisfied with Victoria 3, Gilded Destiny might be exactly what you’re looking for. With the support of Hooded Horse, this game promises to be high quality. Set in the 19th century, it challenges you to modernize a nation during the Industrial Revolution. What’s particularly exciting is its detailed economic simulation, and unlike Victoria 3, it won’t avoid focusing on military campaigns.

14 – Zero Space

Zero Space is a new sci-fi strategy game with its sights set on becoming the best in the genre. It combines a compelling story with the fast-paced, competitive gameplay that fans loved in StarCraft II. A unique feature is its ‘Hero’ system, where choices you make in conversations actually affect the game’s galactic map. It’s a visually stunning and ambitious project, and the developers are working with professional players to ensure it’s perfectly balanced. Hopefully, it will be more successful than Stormgate, another recent attempt at this type of game which unfortunately didn’t quite deliver.

13 – Mars Tactics

There’s a really appealing retro vibe to the game Mars Tactics – it strongly reminds me of the classic, slightly rough look of PlayStation 1 games, similar to Kriegsfront Tactics. It’s a tactical squad game that clearly takes inspiration from the original X-COM, but with a cool addition: a destruction system where the environment actually changes during battles. You can play as either the rebel workers or the corporate forces, and the way the battlefield is physically damaged by the fighting makes each encounter feel fresh and unpredictable. It’s a simple-looking game with a lot of strategic depth, and it’s exactly the kind of hidden indie treasure we need in 2026, especially after the popularity of MENACE.

12 – The Last General

The Last General is looking like a really ambitious game! It combines real-time tactics with large-scale strategy, including managing resources, building bases, and commanding huge armies. What’s especially interesting is that you can also control units directly, as if you were inside the game. It’s actually starting to feel more like the powerful map editor from Arma 3 than a typical strategy game, and that could be a good thing. I’m eager to see a complete mission played from start to finish to get a feel for how it all works together – I’m really excited about this one!

11 – Sudden Strike 5

I generally prefer intricate strategy games, but Sudden Strike 5 is making me reconsider my stance on World War 2 real-time strategy games. It seems to be following the successful formula of Sudden Strike 4, but with even more content and improved graphics. What really sets the Sudden Strike series apart is its extensive single-player campaign, featuring hundreds of units and numerous missions. It’s a fantastic game for anyone who enjoys the classic RTS gameplay of the early 2000s, but with modern visuals and polish.
