Overwatch Reveals April Fools’ Day Event and Patch Notes

Overwatch is celebrating April Fools’ Day with a special, limited-time game mode! During the event, almost all heroes have silly and unexpected changes to their abilities. Players can enjoy this chaotic version of Overwatch and earn fun rewards while they play.

Every year for April Fools’ Day, the game Overwatch usually likes to play pranks, like releasing fake patch notes, giving heroes ridiculously large googly eyes, and replacing their ultimate voice lines with funny jokes and parodies. But in 2024, they surprised everyone by actually making the fake changes from the joke patch notes playable in a special game mode called Balanced Overwatch. They followed that up in 2025 with another April Fools’ event called Totally Normalwatch.

Overwatch “Underwatch” Event Details

Blizzard is bringing back its annual April Fools’ Day fun to Overwatch with a new event called Underwatch, running now through April 13th. In the Underwatch Arcade game mode, heroes have been playfully altered, and players can enjoy an open queue. To add to the silliness, players might even receive “helpful” advice from the classic Microsoft assistant, Clippy, during matches to help them choose a hero.

For PC players, the standard Overwatch icon on their taskbar has been playfully switched to a Pachimari image for April Fools’ Day.

Highlights From Overwatch’s Underwatch Hero “Balance” Adjustments

Almost all the heroes you can play have been playfully changed in some way. These changes range from funny new appearances and abilities to completely switching up how a hero functions in the game. Here are some of the most amusing adjustments players will discover in Underwatch.

  • Domina’s Barrier Array randomly forms in funny shapes.
  • After being betrayed by Vendetta, Doomfist can see all active Talon members through walls, and deals and takes 50% more damage to and from such heroes.
  • Junker Queen’s shotgun shoots knives, and she throws shotguns at enemies instead of her Jagged Blade.
  • Mauga can use Overrun indefinitely and lights himself on fire when he does.
  • Mei is now a tank.
  • Wrecking Ball gets bigger when he rolls around.
  • Anran can use her secondary fire to push herself in the air with her fans and run around as a corpse before triggering Vermillion Revival.
  • Bastion’s Configuration: Assault gun has been replaced with a fan.
  • Cassidy’s finger guns when using the “Hello” emote deal damage and inflict bleeding.
  • New Overwatch hero Emre is even more like Master Chief from Halo than before.
  • Genji is now a melee damage hero.
  • Pharah has given up her jetpack because of Jetpack Cat.
  • Sombra’s Translocator now turns her into props like Kiriko in Mischief & Mayhem.
  • Symmetra’s turrets follow her around.
  • A second Torbjorn is standing on top of Torbjorn.
  • Tracer’s Blink teleports her 13 times further.
  • Ana’s Sleep Dart now puts her to sleep, and then gives her Nano Boost after she wakes.
  • Jetpack Cat gets a Wrecking Ball auto-attached to her Lifeline that can be thrown at enemies.
  • Juno’s Hyper Ring becomes a trampoline.
  • Lifeweaver is even smaller.
  • Mercy’s Resurrect can now be used on enemies to deal massive damage to them.
  • Mizuki has three hats.
  • Zenyatta’s secondary fire charges orbs around him that damage nearby enemies before launching in every direction.

Interestingly, Winston wasn’t changed at all in this game mode—because he’s not playable! The character selection screen says he’s at a “special reunion” on the Horizon Lunar Colony. So, Winston fans will have to watch the other 49 heroes get some pretty wild adjustments instead.

Overwatch Underwatch Patch Notes – April 1, 2026

What’s Underwatch?

Hey everyone! We accidentally discovered a fun new way to play 5v5 Overwatch while doing some… office renovations. We’re calling it ‘Underwatch’ – a bit of a silly name since we found it after lifting some floor tiles! You can find it in the Arcade now. The only problem? We hit a water pipe while we were working, and things are getting a little flooded! It would be amazing if you could check out Underwatch so all this chaos feels worthwhile – the water is literally up to my ankles! There are also some unique challenges and rewards to earn. We’ve scheduled a plumber to fix the pipes on April 13th, so you’ll have until then to give Underwatch a try.

Underlying Changes

Do you see what I mean? It’s a play on words! But seriously, the water is up to my waist, and someone told me the only way to stop it from rising further is to turn off Perks in Underwatch. I hope that makes sense.

TANK

D.Va

D.Va has realized micro missiles are too small, so why not giganto missiles?

  • Micro Missiles
    • Now fires two giant, slow-moving missiles that explode in a bigger area.

Domina

Domina wants Vishkar’s engineers to demonstrate their technology by creating unusual and eye-catching designs.

  • Barrier Array
    • Will randomly select one of many pre-determined Barrier Array configurations.
    • Barrier Panel Health increased by 50.
    • Cooldown reduced to 7 seconds.

Doomfist

Doomfist was surprisingly hurt by losing his leadership of Talon, especially considering he was overthrown, thrown from a window, and abandoned by those he once trusted.

  • Doomfist can see all active Talon members through walls.
  • Doomfist deals and receives 50% more damage from active Talon members.
  • Active Talon members: Vendetta, Emre, Sigma, Moira, Mauga, Freja
  • Rocket Punch
    • Charge can be held indefinitely.
    • Movement speed is no longer reduced when charge is held for long enough.

Hazard

Phreak Phuel

  • Jagged Wall
    • No longer fires a wall-spawning projectile.
    • Instead, Hazard enhances himself for 5 seconds, greatly increasing his attack speed, reload speed, movement speed, cooldown speed, and jump speed.
    • Cooldown reduced to 8 seconds.

Junker Queen

The infinite ingenuity of Junkertown presents: a shotgun full of knives.

  • Scattergun
    • Now shoots 7 knives instead of bullets.
  • Jagged Blade
    • Now throws a regular shotgun instead of a knife.
    • When impaling an enemy, the shotgun fires at the enemy.
    • After recalling, the shotgun fires at your crosshair when caught by Junker Queen.

Mauga

Mauga is on fire! Everyone is on fire!

  • Overrun
    • Overrun can last forever.
    • Using Overrun for too long lights Mauga on fire.
    • While on fire from Overrun, colliding with enemies lights them on fire.
  • Cardiac Overdrive
    • Now makes Mauga’s chainguns shoot blobs of lava, which explode and instantly ignite enemies.

Mei

Okay, so the Overwatch team moved Mei over to the Tank category. Honestly, it’s mostly because people kept being surprised she was surviving fights as a Damage hero! They figured it’d be less confusing if she was officially a Tank, since she’s pretty good at soaking up damage anyway.

  • Moved to Tank role and Bruiser subrole.
  • No longer has the Specialist subrole passive.
  • Shields increased from 0 to 200.
  • Mei’s scale has been increased by 25%.
  • Ice Wall
    • Ice Wall’s scale has been increased by 25%.

Orisa

Yeet-haw, rodeo!

  • Energy Javelin
    • Now launches Orisa in the direction the Javelin is thrown.
  • Terra Surge
    • While charging Terra Surge, Orisa ascends into the sky and can move around.
    • Upon unleashing Terra Surge, Orisa slams down onto the ground below her, triggering its damage on impact.
    • No longer grants overhealth.
    • Maximum damage reduced to 400.

Ramattra

Introducing: Ramattra! The one-omnic show!

  • Health increased from 425 to 500.
  • Armor increased from 100 to 500.
  • Ramattra is now permanently anti-healed.
  • Ravenous Vortex
    • Ravenous Vortex now heals Ramattra for 250% of the damage dealt (bypassing anti-heal).
  • Annihilation
    • Annihilation now heals Ramattra for 100% of the damage dealt (bypassing anti-heal).
    • Annihilation applies anti-heal to enemies.

Reinhardt

Back in his heyday, Reinhardt was named “pin king” at his local bowling joint.

  • Charge
    • Charge can pin multiple enemies at once.
    • Holding forwards or backwards speeds up or slows down Charge’s speed.
    • Charge’s duration increased from 3 seconds to 10 seconds.

Roadhog

Let him hook!

  • Chain Hook
    • Hook no longer pulls enemies.
    • Now slows, hacks, anti-heals, burns, and reveals the hooked enemy for 3 seconds.
    • Cooldown reduced from 6 seconds to 4.5 seconds.

Sigma

Sigma’s going to show you his rock collection, and you’d better be nice!

  • Accretion
    • Now fires a shotgun volley of small rocks.
    • Has 2 charges.

Winston

Winston is currently unavailable due to a special reunion on Horizon Lunar Colony.

  • Winston has been disabled.
  • Seriously, you can’t play as Winston.

Wrecking Ball

“WHO ARE YOU CALLING ‘WRECKING SMALL’?!?”

  • Roll
    • Greatly increases Wrecking Ball’s size.
    • Wrecking Ball is unstoppable and takes 30% reduced damage during Roll, but moves significantly slower.
  • Grappling Claw
    • Retracting the Grappling Claw now launches Wrecking Ball in the direction he is moving.

Zarya

When Zarya was a child, she loved blowing bubbles with her friends. Now, as a powerful warrior, she uses the same technique – blowing bubbles – against her opponents.

  • Particle Cannon
    • Secondary fire now blows explosive bubbles.

DAMAGE

Anran

Caw caw you cluckers.

  • Fan the Flames
    • While airborne, Anran’s secondary fire will push her backwards in the direction she is aiming.
  • Vermillion Revival
    • Anran can move around while dead before triggering Vermillion Revival.

Ashe

Pull!

  • Dynamite
    • If Ashe shoots an airborne Dynamite, a new Dynamite will be launched upwards from the explosion.

Bastion

We identified that Bastion’s turret mode was performing slower than expected. As a test, we temporarily swapped his gun for a large fan to see if it would improve his speed.

  • Configuration: Assault
    • Now shoots large wind-blasts with limited range, knocking back enemies.
    • Bastion now moves faster while in this configuration instead of moving slower.

Cassidy

In the wild west, fingerguns are seen as a sign of hostility.

  • Cassidy fires a piercing bullet that inflicts bleeding whenever saying hello.

Echo

Shapes, flight, bouncy bombs, oh my!

  • Tri-Shot
    • Each successive shot increases the number of projectiles fired, creating new shapes for each volley.
  • Flight
    • Cancelling Flight launches Echo in the direction she is moving.
  • Sticky Bombs
    • Sticky Bombs now bounce off the environment up to 3 times before sticking.

We’ve evolved Emre’s combat so players can reach a higher skill ceiling with his kit.

    • Ultimate cost has been reduced by 50%.
    • Now only fires 2 heavy rounds.
    • Rate of fire has increased.
    • No longer grants flight.

  • Freja’s regular movement is 70% slower.
  • Freja’s cooldowns are accelerated by 300% while on the ground.

    • No longer has a cooldown and instead costs 50 scrap to place.
    • Heroes drop 25 scrap upon death, which Junkrat can pick up.

Pharah

Okay, so Pharah totally realized she just couldn’t compete with everyone loving D.Va and her awesome jetpack, so she decided to just… stop flying, I guess? She’s grounded herself, which is kind of sad, but I get it – D.Va is pretty popular!

  • Hover Jets
    • Removed.
  • Rocket Launcher
    • Has increased self-knockback.
    • The more Pharah knocks herself back with her Rocket Launcher, the faster she moves.
    • No longer deals damage to Pharah.

Reaper’s learned to play peak-a-boo!

  • Shadow Step
    • During Shadow Step, Reaper has 6 seconds to choose if he wants to teleport there or retreat back to his original position.

    • Replaced Translocator.
    • Transforms Sombra into a random object.

    • Doing any action removes Sombra’s disguise.
