One Piece Explains Why Domi Reversi Doesn’t Work On Luffy and Loki

The Elbaf arc has been incredibly exciting since it began. It’s delivered some of the biggest revelations in the entire One Piece story and introduced some incredibly powerful characters. Each chapter has consistently shifted our understanding of the world.

One of the biggest shocks was discovering Imu was actually on the island, and that they possess the powerful Domi Reversi ability – letting them turn even their toughest enemies into loyal followers. Interestingly, this ability didn’t work on Luffy or Loki, and we’ll explore why that happened and what it could mean for the future of One Piece.

What Exactly Is Domi Reversi And Why Is It So Strong?

Imu’s Greatest Ability

The Elbaf arc unexpectedly revealed a lot about Imu, surprising many fans who thought this information would be saved for the very end of the story. While Imu remains largely a mystery, we’ve now seen their main power: Domi Reversi.

Domi Reversi is a power used by Imu that turns people into massive, incredibly strong beasts through dark energy. These transformed creatures are nearly impossible to harm with normal attacks and can quickly recover from injuries. What makes this ability truly frightening is that Imu completely controls these transformed beings, forcing them to fight against their former selves and allies.

You will give up some of your life and gain incredible power. But in return for this gift, you will become enemies!

These monsters can completely heal from almost any attack. The only effective way to truly harm them is with a very advanced technique called Conqueror’s Haki Coating, but it’s so powerful that only the strongest characters can use it, making it impractical for most people to rely on.

Conqueror’s Haki is already a very uncommon power, but coating someone with it – Conqueror’s Coating – is even rarer. It’s been proven that strong willpower can resist the mind control that comes with it, and critically injuring someone affected by it seems to break the effect. Interestingly, Tony Tony Chopper has demonstrated the ability to completely avoid being affected by this power altogether, though how he does so remains a mystery.

Luffy And Loki Are Impervious To Domi Reversi

The Real Reason

The latest chapter of the One Piece manga, chapter 1178, appears to have concluded the major fight against Imu and the Holy Knights. Key highlights include the defeats of St. Sommers, Killingham, and Imu – whose core being was ultimately expelled from Gunko’s body.

The fighting on Elbaf appears to have paused, but the most important part of this chapter was when Imu’s attempt to control Luffy and Loki with Domi Reversi failed. This was surprising to many fans, but Imu didn’t seem particularly bothered, suggesting they anticipated this outcome.

It’s no surprise that this reveal sent fans into overdrive, immediately starting to speculate and come up with theories. One idea was that this power wouldn’t work on characters with a really strong form of Haki called Advanced Conqueror’s Haki. But that theory doesn’t really hold up when you remember what happened at God Valley. We saw Rocks D. Xebec, who was known for having incredibly powerful Conqueror’s Haki – possibly even more than Luffy or Loki – turned into a demon by Imu. So, if it worked on him, it clearly isn’t limited to those without strong Haki.

However, Domi Reversi might not affect people who have eaten a ‘God’ type of Devil Fruit. These are powerful, theoretical fruits that grant abilities based on gods or legendary creatures – like Luffy’s Nika fruit or the Nidhogg fruit associated with Loki.

On an incredibly unusual day, with snow falling alongside thunder and lightning, a massive creature will darken the sky. At the same time, as the Drums of Liberation sound, the Sun God will reveal themself!

Okay, so thinking about how Luffy and Loki resisted Imu’s power, it really seems like specific abilities are the key to countering it. But I’ve been pondering something even more interesting – what if Imu can’t even affect people who’ve eaten a Devil Fruit? It’s a bit of a leap, but look at everyone Imu has Domi Reversi’d so far – none of them had Devil Fruit powers! It feels like there’s a really strong connection there, and it might be more significant than we realize.

A popular theory suggests Imu’s Devil Fruit power is connected to the Umibozu, a sea demon from Japanese folklore. This idea is supported by the fact that ‘Imu’ is the reverse of ‘Umi,’ the Japanese word for ‘sea.’ Given the strong connection between Devil Fruits and the sea in One Piece, it’s logical to assume that Devil Fruit users are immune to Imu’s control. The monstrous form Imu briefly possessed within Gunko further strengthens this possibility.

We won’t know for certain until Oda explains why Luffy and Loki aren’t affected by Domi Reversi, but this feels like a likely answer with major consequences for how the series will end. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if this theory proves correct.
