With Patch 12.0.5, World of Warcraft is letting players customize how weapons are held when their characters aren’t fighting. This new feature, accessed through the Transmog system, allows players to choose where weapons are sheathed for each unique outfit they create.
The Midnight expansion brought a major update to how appearances work in World of Warcraft. Instead of changing the look of each piece of gear separately, players now create complete outfits for their characters. These outfits automatically update the appearance of anything equipped in the corresponding slots. The system also includes ‘Situations’ which can automatically change your transmog based on where you are, what specializations you’re using, or even if you transform into a different form.
WoW: Midnight Patch 12.0.5 Weapon Sheathe Transmog Options
A new customization feature is coming to World of Warcraft soon! The latest test version of Patch 12.0.5 now lets players choose how weapons are carried – on their back, at their side, or completely hidden when not in use. Players who use two weapons can even customize each one separately, carrying one on their back and the other at their side. You can set these preferences for each of your transmog appearances.
- Default Sheathing
- Sheathe On Back
- Sheathe On Side
- Hidden While Sheathed

Currently, the weapon storage system has some restrictions. Two-handed weapons, like swords and bows, can only be stored on a character’s back or hidden – they can’t be positioned on the side, even for classes like Fury Warriors in World of Warcraft. Some one-handed weapons that normally go on the back also can’t be moved to the side. Additionally, ‘fist’ weapons, which are normally hidden, can’t have their storage location changed at all. Surprisingly, Demon Hunters can’t customize where their weapons are stored either, not even one-handed weapons that other classes can adjust. This might be due to problems with the unique shape of the Demon Hunter’s Warglaives, which make side storage difficult. It’s unclear if these limitations will be addressed in future updates.
Honestly, this is a really big step forward for Transmog. Before, all weapons were automatically placed in the same spot – usually at your side – which could look terrible when certain weapon appearances clipped through your character model. Now, we’ve got way more control over how everything looks, both when we’re fighting and just showing off our gear. It’s not flawless, but as someone who loves customizing my character in World of Warcraft, I think this is a huge win for us.
What Else is Coming in WoW Patch 12.0.5?
Patch 12.0.5 for World of Warcraft is packed with new things to do, including Void Assaults, Ritual Sites, Decor Duels, Abyss Anglers, and the Voidforge. Plus, Blizzard is officially celebrating Pride with an event called the Darkspear Dash, which began as a popular charity event organized by the World of Warcraft community – originally known as the Running of the Trolls.
This update includes more ways to customize your characters. Players can now unlock special outfits, called Transmog Situations, that change based on the weather or time of day. Demon Hunters will have new eye color options, removing the fiery look and adding a blue choice. Void Elf Demon Hunters get new visor styles to match their colors. And Dracthyr Evokers can instantly revert to their normal appearance after using abilities that transform them into their dragon form, thanks to the new Battle Visage ability.
We don’t have a firm release date for the next update to World of Warcraft yet, but looking at how quickly updates have been released in the past gives us a good estimate. Since the Midnight update came out on March 2nd, and WoW updates usually arrive about eight weeks apart, players can likely expect Patch 12.0.5 around April 28th.
