Because there aren’t any established pink lightsaber wielders, fans are just starting to speculate about what the color might represent.

Because pink is made by combining red and white, some Star Wars fans believe that characters who wield pink lightsabers are powerful with the dark side, but actively choose to fight for the light. Like the theory behind purple lightsabers, many think pink lightsaber users might be able to tap into powers from both sides of the Force, though this hasn’t been proven in the stories. Because the only confirmed users are Dark Jedi, it’s likely that orange lightsabers are mostly used by Jedi who have fallen from the light or those with questionable morals.

Baylan Skoll lived through the terrible events of Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi, making his turn to the dark side understandable. His student is very combative, and their lightsaber color—a unique shade that isn’t red like a Sith’s—reflects that fiery personality. It’s a color somewhere in between, and hopefully we’ll see more characters with orange lightsabers to explore this shade further.

7. Yellow Lightsabers Are Primarily Used By Jedi Temple Guards

Yellow lightsabers in the Star Wars universe are special because they’re wielded by people who have overcome significant personal challenges or by the Jedi Temple Guards. Rey Skywalker earns a yellow lightsaber when she embraces her family history and chooses to carry on the Skywalker name. Similarly, Asajj Ventress begins using a yellow lightsaber after leaving the dark side and turning towards the light. This suggests a yellow blade could represent a personal victory, but the lightsaber’s other association complicates that idea.

Besides Jedi Masters, yellow lightsabers were commonly used by the Jedi Temple Guards and were a popular choice during the High Republic period. While less common by the time of the Clone Wars, the Temple Guards continued to use them. Over time, yellow lightsabers went from being a widespread color to a symbol specifically associated with the Temple Guard’s role within the Jedi Order.

6. The Darksaber Remains the Only Canon Black Lightsaber in Existence

Because of its significance, it’s highly improbable we’ll ever see another blade like it; introducing another would diminish what makes the original Darksaber so special.

5. Green Lightsaber Wielders Typically Have a Strong Connection to the Force

Green lightsabers usually signify a strong connection to the Force. While Jedi who wield green blades often favor peaceful negotiation over fighting, this isn’t always true, as seen with Kit Fisto. Traditionally, green lightsabers indicated a Jedi’s role as a Counselor, but even after the Jedi Order was destroyed by Order 66, some continued to use them. Although the exact shade of green can vary, the meaning behind the color remains consistent.

Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and Qui-Gon Jinn are all known for using green lightsabers. While they generally prefer to use diplomacy and the Force, they are all highly skilled fighters. Luke Skywalker is considered one of the most powerful characters in the Star Wars Legends stories, and Yoda was the most powerful Jedi Master for hundreds of years. As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve always been fascinated by white lightsabers. They’re pretty rare, but the story behind them is really cool. Basically, they happen when someone takes a red kyber crystal – one that’s been corrupted by the dark side – and manages to purify it. When that happens, the blade doesn’t go back to blue or green, it turns a striking white. So far, in the official Star Wars story, only Ahsoka Tano has wielded one. Honestly, it feels perfect that we’re seeing two of the rarest lightsaber colors – white and her signature dual-bladed setup – in the same live-action show!

In the Star Wars novels, Ashoka Tano cleanses special crystals that become a signature part of her lightsaber. This hasn’t been depicted in the TV series or movies yet. She first obtains these crystals from an Inquisitor on the planet Raada and continues to use them throughout her journey. Notably, at this time, she isn’t aligned with either the Jedi or the Sith, and this neutrality is visually shown by the colorless blade her crystals produce.

3. Red Lightsaber Crystals Are Created by Bleeding any Colored Crystal With the Dark Side

Red lightsabers are the most iconic and well-known blade colors in the entire series. From the very beginning, they’ve symbolized the Sith, and that meaning hasn’t changed. Before the Sith followed the ‘Rule of Two,’ they were as powerful as the Jedi, but their greed and self-interest ultimately led to their downfall.

While stories sometimes mention Jedi wielding red lightsabers, it’s very uncommon. Usually, red lightsabers are used by Jedi who have turned to the dark side. Jedi who once used red lightsabers, like Adi Gallia, typically stopped when the Sith reappeared. Today, only dark side users actually wield these red blades.

Besides Amara, only Darth Revan and Vernestra Rwoh have wielded purple lightsabers. While both are exceptionally strong characters, they’ve been explored much more extensively in older, non-canon stories than in current official content. Fortunately, we’re starting to see more purple lightsaber users appear in recent stories.

Originally, only red and blue lightsabers existed; green was introduced in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi to provide better visual contrast with the desert landscapes. Now, blue remains the most common lightsaber color.

Blue lightsabers are incredibly popular among Jedi, but their wielders are far from weak. Powerful Jedi like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker both used blue lightsabers during their prime, proving that this common color often indicates a skilled fighter. Essentially, while blue is the most frequently seen lightsaber color, it suggests the user possesses considerable combat ability.
