This world is unlike any other, with glowing mushrooms that emit light when triggered by sound. “Blisters and Bedrock” offers viewers a long-awaited dialogue between Jinx and Vi. Since the time leap in Season 1, their encounters have either been filled with arguments or perilous situations. However, in this episode, they finally have a chance to talk instead of fighting (although there is still some of that).

According to Jinx, rescuing Vander presents an opportunity for the siblings to revisit the fateful incident that drastically altered their lives decades ago. Although it’s Jinx who extends the truce initially, having dealt with her own inner turmoil related to her sister, witnessing a softer side of Jinx through her bond with Isha begins to sway Vi’s perspective. It’s worth mentioning that Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell deliver captivating performances in this episode, creating an intriguing dynamic between the sisters unlike any other we’ve witnessed before.

An Unconventional Family Reunion Takes Place

After some time, Warwick manages to locate the group, but he’s once again in his ferocious state. In a fierce battle with the werewolf, Vi resorts to hand-to-hand combat and eventually decides to surrender the gauntlets, placing faith in her sister that Vander is within. At this juncture, the series Arcane offers an unexpected flashback. This segment shows a young Vander and Silco at the Last Drop, where they meet Felicia – a woman who embodies both Vi and Jinx. Felicia confides in them that she’s pregnant and scared, yet she trusts in their vision for Zaun and asks them to assist her in raising her child. The bond among the three is evident, and it soon transpires that Vander suggested “Violet” as the name that Vi bears.

In the moments when the lights are restored, Vander and Vi can be seen in a heartfelt embrace. Vi gestures for Jinx to join them, and soon enough, Isha also steps into the group hug. This poignant scene depicts a family that has been separated, now reunited once more. The powerful effect of this moment is amplified by the carefully selected music from Mako & Grey’s “What Have They Done To Us,” which beautifully captures the complex feelings associated with their unconventional family reunion as portrayed in Arcane.

Taming the Beast

In another part of Episode 5, Ambessa and Caitlyn continue their pursuit relentlessly. After the assault on Stillwater in Episode 4, Caitlyn arrives to examine the destruction. All signs point to Singed, whom Ambessa and Caitlyn interrogate harshly for details about the creature that attacked them. Caitlyn shows no mercy, fueled by Jinx’s presence at the incident. Unbeknownst to Caitlyn, Ambessa negotiates with Singed, offering him unlimited resources in return for command over the beast. When granted access to his lab, Singed’s true motivation is disclosed. All his macabre experiments have been aimed at saving his little daughter from death, who he keeps suspended in a tank. He trusts Warwick possesses the answer.

The Mind Prison

In Episode 5 of Arcane Season 2, we learn about Mel’s fate following her abduction by the Black Rose in Episode 3. Mel discovers a mysterious underground jail, where she encounters Kino, her supposedly deceased brother. Kino discloses that he was seized after probing into Ambessa’s dealings, which he discovered had resulted in the birth of a child. The powers of this child seem to be crucial to the Black Rose. As Mel delves deeper into the secrets of their imprisonment, she becomes aware that they are once again trapped within another reality-bending scheme orchestrated by the Black Rose. It is then revealed that the Black Rose initially believed Kino was the child, but were led to Mel by Ambessa.

Whatever that child inherited is of terrible interest to our captors.

Jayce Returns

In Episode 5 of Season 2, Arcane brings back another character who had been missing from the narrative. The returning character is Jayce, who appears drawn and tormented after emerging from the anomaly. His former associate, Salo, is now healed by Viktor, allowing Viktor to communicate through him. Upon their reunion, it becomes clear that Jayce has also interacted with arcane energy, but his encounter seems vastly different from what others experienced. Jayce declares Hextech a cursed artifact and brutally kills Salo using his hammer in a fit of rage.
