As a seasoned veteran of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCG) scene, I must say that the introduction of Pokemon TCG Pocket has been a breath of fresh air for me—especially with its innovative take on the Energy system!
In the digital adaptation called Pokemon TCG Pocket, a new perspective is given to the traditional Energy system from the original Pokemon TCG. Unlike the physical game, this variation eliminates the need for Energy cards during gameplay. Instead, the game provides Energy automatically, mimicking action-point systems found in games like Marvel Snap. This adjustment streamlines combat and coincides with the omission of Prize Cards. However, it may initially perplex newcomers, so we’ve developed this detailed guide to elucidate all aspects of Energy in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
What Is Energy in Pokemon Pocket?
In the Pokemon TCG Pocket, Energy serves as the power or action resource. To launch an attack, utilize a Pokemon’s ability, or return it to the bench, you need to connect the necessary number of Energy cards to its card. Energies are available in various types, and each card has unique Energy requirements for its actions. Generally, more powerful attacks call for more Energy points.
Energy Zone
Unlike traditional Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), the Pokemon TCG Pocket variant does away with Energy cards and introduces a fresh system known as the “Energy Zone.” This feature functions by providing action points for players at the beginning of each round, producing one Energy point. If your card deck includes multiple types of Energy, the type generated will be determined randomly. In essence, you can only receive a specific Energy Type if your deck is exclusively assigned to that particular kind.
Energy Type
In the game Pokemon Pocket, you’ll find eight distinct Energy Types: Grass, Fire, Water, Psychic, Dark, Electric, Fighting, and Steel. Moreover, there is a unique category of Pokemon called “colorless,” which can interact with any of the previously mentioned Energy Types.
How Can You Change a Deck’s Energy Type?
1. Go to the ‘Battle’ menu.
2. Tap ‘Decks’ in the bottom-left corner.
3. Select ‘My Decks.’
4. Choose the desired deck (if you don’t have one, you should build a deck first).
5. Tap ‘Change’ at the top-right corner.
6. Select ‘Energy.’
7. Customize or change your deck’s Energy.
You can assign up to three different Energy Types to each deck. These Energies are exclusive to the deck, affecting only that specific lineup. If you assign more than one Energy Type, the Energy you receive at the start of each round will be random. For META decks in Pokemon Pocket, sticking with one Energy Type is recommended to ensure consistency.
As a savvy gamer, I’ve found that incorporating a handful of versatile, colorless Basic Pokémon into my deck can really help even out the distribution of Energy. These Pokémon provide flexible evolution options or defensive strategies, all without necessitating the addition of multiple Energy Types.
How Can You Get Extra Energy in a Match?
In the Genetic Apex expansion of the Pokemon Pocket game, the unique method to gather more than one Energy point per turn is by utilizing the Misty Supporter card. This card provides one Water-Type Energy whenever you toss a coin and it comes up heads. However, the benefits from Misty will cease when you flip the coin and it lands on tails.
In the upcoming updates, we might see additional Supporter cards appearing with capabilities like Misty’s for different types of Energy. For now, though, Misty remains the unique means to acquire extra Energy during a single turn.
Misty functions exceptionally well as a Support card, particularly in decks that are not primarily focused on the Water type but have numerous colorless Pokemon. She can utilize her Water-Type Energies on these colorless cards instead.
Are There Special Energies in Pokemon Pocket?
In the latest version of Pokemon Pocket, you won’t find any Special Energy cards. These cards, common in the real-world Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), provide extra functions like earning double points or allowing free retreats. Since the new Energy Zone feature is now part of Pokemon Pocket, it seems unlikely that we’ll see Special Energy cards introduced into the game.
