Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon collaborates with Mister Donut for limited-edition Diglett and Dugtrio donuts in Japan.
  • Collaborations extend to special merchandise and social media promotion for Pokemon’s 25th anniversary.
  • International fans may expect similar collaborations with food chains in the future.

As a seasoned gamer who has been around since the dawn of Pokemon, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when I hear about these delightful collaborations between my beloved franchise and Mister Donut. Back in ’96, when Red and Blue were gracing our Game Boys, I could only dream of a world where Pokemon and donuts coexisted harmoniously. Now, here we are, with Diglett and Dugtrio doughnuts!

As a dedicated Pokemon gamer, I can’t help but feel excited when I hear about our partnership with Mister Donut in Japan! Each holiday season, they come up with unique, limited-edition donuts that make the fans in Japan grin from ear to ear. Every year, they pick a fresh Pokemon to design a new doughnut, while still offering fan favorites like Pikachu and Poke Ball donuts.

For several years, Mister Donut has been teaming up with the popular franchise, Pokémon. This time around, it’s Diglett, a ground-type Pokémon, who’s been selected to be part of this partnership. The special donuts became available on November 6, 2024, and customers can also purchase exclusive merchandise, such as Pokémon-themed blankets and glasses (as reported by SoraNews, a set with blankets is priced at 1,990 yen or approximately US$ 12.94). Here’s a video showcasing Mister Donut’s collaboration with Pokémon.

Mr. Donut announced on social media that it’s not just Diglett fans can look forward to. Starting from November 27, 2024, fans will also have the opportunity to purchase a Dugtrio Donut! Reservations can be made starting from November 15. They recently posted an adorable donut evolution video on X (formerly Twitter).

Darn it, looks like I missed my chance on the Diglett doughnut – seems they were snapped up by die-hard fans ahead of time! But fret not, there’s going to be a second opportunity with the Dugtrio donut. And here’s something exciting: There’s a promotional image featuring Diglett, Pikachu, and the iconic Poke Ball donuts. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

Mister Donut has been partnering with Pokemon at least since 2018.

Other Pokemon Collaborations

From Japan to The World

Even though the collaboration between Pokemon is already a classic, it has continued to team up with diverse brands and artists since its 25th anniversary in 2021. This was marked by a unique event where prominent American pop singers came together to produce a special Anniversary Album.

Subsequently, they continued to work alongside artists and musicians, with the Pokemon Company having invested significantly in special albums over an extended period (as evidenced by the Pokemon Christmas Bash). Now, it’s even Dua Lipa who is unveiling Pokemon-themed music.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I’ve recently been part of some exciting partnerships. For instance, I collaborated on the creation of unique Crocs shoes. Moreover, I was privileged to be involved in an extraordinary Hatsune Miku project, where 18 fresh songs and video clips were born. Additionally, I found myself at the center of a Van Gogh Museum exhibit that stirred quite a buzz among fans, with some expressing concerns over potential misconduct.

Initially, the “Pokemon” games debuted back in 1996, and since then, across nine generations, it has fostered numerous collaborations within Japan due to its growing popularity and impressive sales figures. However, significant partnerships were less common internationally. Although fans haven’t been able to savor Pikachu donuts outside of Japan at present, they can anticipate similar collaborations with other food chains potentially taking place in the future.
