Every Feature Confirmed for Marvel Rivals So Far

As someone who has been following the gaming scene for quite some time now, I must say that the upcoming release of Marvel Rivals is causing quite a stir among gamers and comic book fans alike. With its ambitious narrative, ever-evolving gameplay, and a roster of iconic Marvel characters, it seems like NetEase has truly outdone themselves with this one.

In contrast to the current oversaturated hero shooter market, showcased by games like Concord, Marvel Rivals appears to be an exception – a fresh entrant into the genre that has potential to challenge established giants such as Overwatch. Last July, Marvel Rivals conducted closed playtests, and on their inaugural day, these tests attracted an impressive 52,000 players solely on PC, setting a high benchmark for the game’s upcoming launch. The big day is nearly upon us.

On December 6, 2024, the highly anticipated game titled “Marvel Rivals” is set to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. It’s shaping up to be a significant milestone for the hero shooter genre. With a vast roster of playable heroes and villains, the release of Marvel Rivals will also introduce an assortment of maps, an abundance of cosmetics inspired by various aspects of the Marvel multiverse, and numerous other features that fans are eagerly awaiting.

Every Feature Confirmed for Marvel Rivals‘ December 9 Launch

Marvel Rivals Will Have 33 Playable Heroes During Its Launch Window

The quality of a hero shooter game largely depends on its main characters you can play with, and luckily, the upcoming game Marvel Rivals is promising a rich collection. At present, it has confirmed 27 playable heroes and villains for Marvel Rivals, all of which will be accessible from the day of its release on December 6.

  • Adam Warlock
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Doctor Strange
  • Groot
  • Hela
  • Hulk
  • Iron Man
  • Jeff the Land Shark
  • Loki
  • Luna Snow
  • Magik

  • Moon Knight
  • Namor
  • Peni Parker
  • Psylocke
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Scarlet Witch

  • The Punisher
  • Thor
  • Venom
  • Winter Soldier

As per the most recent “Dev Vision” video by developer NetEase, Marvel Rivals is set to introduce a remarkable 33 playable characters in its debut season, known as Season 0.

There’s been a lot of buzz suggesting that Hawkeye, Human Torch, Ultron, and Blade might join the cast of Marvel Rivals soon, although NetEase hasn’t made any formal announcements yet. As the game’s launch approaches, we’re eagerly awaiting the official unveiling of the remaining six characters in the roster.

Marvel Rivals Will Launch With 9 Maps

It has been verified that Marvel Rivals is set to unveil nine maps in its initial month. Out of these nine, eight maps can be played in both Quick Match and Competitive 6v6 games. Four out of these eight have previously been accessible during the closed testing phases, specifically:

  • Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya
  • Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands
  • Yggsgard: Royal Palace
  • Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path

In other words, four additional Quick Play/Competitive maps are expected to arrive in Marvel Rivals by December, but we don’t know yet where these maps will be based. During the game’s launch period, Marvel Rivals is planning to introduce one Conquest map as well.

In simpler terms, the team deathmatch mode in Marvel Rivals is all about conquering, which means your goal is to defeat as many players from the other team before a set time runs out. This is different from other modes offered by Marvel Rivals, such as Convoy (where you move a payload), Domination (a capture and hold objective), or Convergence (a blend of both).

Marvel Rivals
will also receive a Practice Range mode during its initial launch window.

Marvel Rivals’ Evolving Story Begins Straight Away

Similar to Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and other notable games in the live-service category, Marvel Rivals plans to offer a grand, continually developing storyline. With each season, Marvel Rivals will unveil fresh narrative components, starting from Season 0.

Starting on December 6th, the “Doom’s Rise” Season 0 of Marvel Rivals lays the foundation for an extraordinary tale within the Marvel universe. During this inaugural season, Doctor Doom’s meddling with the Time Stream Entanglement will bring forth four distinct realities: a 2099 timeline, a present-day world plagued by wickedness, an unstable Mosaic timeline, and a Collapsing timeline where deities themselves can perish.

In a recent development update for Marvel Rivals, the game’s creative director revealed that the storyline of Marvel Rivals will incorporate elements from various timelines, including the past, present, and alternate realities, creating an intricate tapestry that continues to unfold.

Marvel Rivals’ Season 1 Begins in January 2025

In simple terms, the first season called “Doom’s Rise” will run for a single month, wrapping up at the start of January next year. Following closely behind, you can expect the premiere of Marvel Rivals Season 1, scheduled for January 2025.

At present, each installment of Marvel Rivals typically spans approximately three months, introducing “new characters, locations, team-up capabilities, and potentially fresh gameplay modes,” as suggested by the latest NetEase Dev Vision overview. In addition to these free features, Marvel Rivals is expected to roll out a new battle pass for each season, offering an array of cosmetic items such as skins and emblems.

Since Season 0 lasts only a month, its battle pass will be shorter in duration and priced to reflect this length, though the exact price is yet to be announced. Three skins have already been revealed for the Season 0 battle pass – an advanced Iron Man skin, a Bag-Man-inspired Spider-Man skin reminiscent of Bombastic, and a skin inspired by “Thor: Love and Thunder” for the Norse god.
