The developers of Peak have addressed player concerns that the game hasn’t been updated with enough new content, after one player labeled them “lazy.” This response followed an announcement that Peak will receive at least one more update in 2026.
The game Peak was a hit right from the start, selling five million copies within a month of its June 2025 release. It has now sold over ten million copies, but some players are disappointed that the developers haven’t promised to add new content or updates in the future. However, the developers have good reasons for ending updates, which makes sense from their perspective.
Peak Developers Defend Against “Lazy” Claims
A Twitter user criticized the game Peak, claiming its developers were releasing updates too slowly and weren’t maximizing the game’s potential. Landfall, one of the game’s developers, quickly responded, explaining that neither they nor Aggro Crab (the other developer) operate as a ‘live service’ studio – meaning they aren’t committed to constant, ongoing updates. They highlighted the many updates the game has received since launch, emphasizing that these updates are a perk, not something players are entitled to, considering the structure of the two development teams.

Someone commented that the game needs a more logical update, and suggested allowing players to customize plays and make it easier to create modifications. Landfall acknowledged that full customization would be a significant undertaking, but they’re willing to consider community feedback. Regarding modding Peak, they explained they’d already spoken with modders, and the community hadn’t expressed interest in a mod workshop when asked. The team also confirmed that the game will receive at least one further update.
It’s understandable that updates for Peak have slowed down. While the game has received several additions since launch, including new areas, items, and enemies, the developers at Aggro Crab have started working on their next project, Crashout Crew, which is slated for release in late 2026. This new project is likely where most of the team’s attention is now. Peak was originally created for a game jam and built in just four months, so while the team is happy with its success and sales, they probably didn’t anticipate such a strong reception and hadn’t planned for extensive, ongoing support.
It’s a common problem for indie games that suddenly become popular. Take Lethal Company, for example – it blew up in popularity after release, but updates have mostly been small, and the developer even stopped working on it for a while to start a new game, Welcome to the Dark Place. The ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia has faced similar issues. While it’s received updates, including map changes and new features, fans have been frustrated by delays to promised content like the Horror 2.0 rework and the full game release, which was initially expected in 2024 but hasn’t happened yet.
It’s important to remember that Peak was created after the team at Aggro Crab finished Another Crab’s Treasure, a project that left them exhausted. Pushing themselves to work as hard on Peak could have been detrimental to their well-being. While some players might be hoping for ongoing updates and content, the developers have decided against making Peak a live service game. Fortunately, the final major update, combined with the game’s core gameplay and creations from the modding community, should keep the experience enjoyable for a long time.
