Roblox Adds New Parental Controls to Protect Children

As a seasoned gamer and parent, I must say that Roblox’s recent announcement about their new parental controls is nothing short of a breath of fresh air. With my own kids being avid gamers on this platform, I can attest to the need for more stringent safety measures. The ability to set daily screen limits and view our children’s friends list will certainly bring peace of mind.

Roblox has added new parental controls to its platform to protect children.

On Monday, Roblox unveiled enhanced parental controls and safety features designed to empower parents and guardians with greater oversight for their child’s protection. Some adjustments will take effect starting today, while further enhancements are planned for implementation next year.

With these latest updates, parents can now monitor precisely the duration their kids spend on Roblox and inspect their friend lists. Furthermore, they’ll be able to establish daily time limits for their child’s screen usage on this platform.

The company announced that as of now, children under 13 years old won’t have the ability to directly message other users unless a parent or guardian adjusts the settings. Additionally, Roblox is planning to introduce several new content labels designed to help both kids and parents determine suitable content. These labels include “minimal,” “mild,” “moderate,” and “restricted” – with “restricted” being the strictest category, potentially containing intense violence, graphic depictions of blood, and strong crude humor.

For children below the age of 9, access is limited to “less intense” or “relatively tame” content. Parental approval is required before they can access “more moderate” content.

Over the past two years, Roblox has faced criticism due to insufficient online protection for younger users. Notably, this year Turkey prohibited the use of the platform due to worries about child abuse. Furthermore, an October report disclosed that illegal trading of child sexual content was detected within some of its games.
