Pokemon Pokopia was a huge and welcome surprise in 2026. It’s not only the best-rated Pokemon game ever, but it sold over 2.2 million copies in its first four days! Given this incredible success, a sequel seems likely, and there’s a lot of potential for what it could be.
Pokemon Pokopia takes the foundation laid by Omega Force’s Dragon Quest Builders games, but adds its own unique features, creating a solid base for future installments. Just as Omega Force improved upon the original Dragon Quest Builders with its sequel, they’ve clearly established a path to further develop Pokopia. Even with the game’s already extensive content, the rich world of Pokemon offers plenty of opportunities for a sequel to introduce new ideas and continue the series.
Pokemon Pokopia Players Rebuilt Kanto, But There Are Still 8 Other Regions to Tackle
As you play through the story of Pokemon Pokopia, you’ll realize you’re actually exploring the ruins of the Kanto Region. Each area in Pokopia features famous locations from Kanto, like the S.S. Anne in Bleak Beach, the Pewter City Museum in Rocky Ridge, and the Silph Co. Building in Sparkling Skylands. These landmarks show that you’re rebuilding Kanto cities such as Vermillion City, Pewter City, and Saffron City, and the presence of Palette Town with that exact name further confirms this is indeed the Kanto Region.

The Best Regions for a Pokemon Pokopia 2 to Explore

If Nintendo were to create more Pokemon Pokopia games after the first one, the best choices for settings would be the regions from the second, third, and fourth generations of Pokemon. These older regions are just as beloved by fans as the original Kanto, and a Pokopia sequel would be a great way to explore them again without full remakes. Since Kalos is featured in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Galar is rumored to be the next Pokemon Legends location, revisiting these earlier regions in future Pokopia games would make a lot of sense.
As a huge Pokémon fan, I really think a sequel set in Johto would be the natural next step after revisiting Kanto! It just makes sense to follow the original game order. Johto is packed with memorable places too – I mean, who could forget the Burned Tower and Bell Tower in Ecruteak City, or the Olivine City Lighthouse? And think about it, the area around Route 44 and Blackthorn City is perfect for a revamped Ice Path – it’d be an amazing icy biome!
While not the next region in the traditional Pokémon timeline after Kanto, Hoenn boasts a wide variety of environments that would be ideal for Pokopia‘s gameplay. From the desert landscapes of Route 111 to the volcanic areas around Fallarbor Town and the secluded Sootopolis City, a Pokopia sequel set in Hoenn could provide a fresh and unique experience for players compared to the first game.
As a huge Pokémon fan, I’d absolutely love to see a new Pokopiastyle game take place in Sinnoh! Imagine going back to that region, but instead of the past like in Pokémon Legends: Arceus*, it’s set in a future that’s seen some serious changes. It would be amazing to see how Sinnoh evolved over time – to witness the story of places like Canalave City Library and the Solaceon Town Ruins, showing how they rose to prominence and then eventually fell. It would really bring the region to life!
Pokemon Pokopia is Still Missing Around 700 Creatures from its Pokedex
Another area where a sequel to Pokemon Pokopia could really improve is the variety of Pokemon available to find. Right now, the game only includes about 300 Pokemon out of the more than 1,000 that exist across the entire Pokemon franchise. While a smaller selection makes sense for a spin-off title, Pokopia‘s popularity suggests a sequel could feature an even larger roster of creatures for players to collect in their towns.

Even though Pokopia’s Pokedex is still missing around 700 Pokémon, some key ones should definitely be included in a future game. For example, not all starter Pokémon from across the series are present. While the original starters are there, popular choices from later generations, like Turtwig and Litten, are missing. Adding these to a Pokemon Pokopia 2 would be simple, and including Turtwig would fit perfectly if the game were set in the Sinnoh region.
The game Pokopia is missing a few powerful Pokémon known as Pseudo-Legendaries. While Metagross from Generation 3 is available, Salamence is not. Hydreigon, the Pseudo-Legendary from Generation 5, is also absent and could be added in a future game. Beyond the Pseudo-Legendaries, Pokopia has a relatively small number of Legendary Pokémon overall, despite the Pokémon series usually featuring many. The Gen 5 Legendary trio – Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus – would be a great fit, as they embody the forces of nature, a key element of Pokopia‘s post-apocalyptic world. Enamorus, a fourth member of this trio introduced in Legends: Arceus, could also be included in a sequel, as it represents springtime and renewal, which aligns well with the themes of Pokémon Pokopia.
